He CC'd Epstein to tell him he should be strangled lmao erm-this-you

[–] Quai@hexbear.net 23 points 2 days ago

Looks like he also copied Trivers' daughter?

[–] Lovely_sombrero@hexbear.net 19 points 2 days ago (1 children)

Missed an opportunity to completely misspell his name.

"Mr. Empstorelli, I've written more e-mails than you've read words."

Mr. Empshtien

blacked out email address

quoted original message:

Dear Professor Trivers

lmao

[–] hollowmines@hexbear.net 33 points 2 days ago

the laziness of the redactions is indistinguishable from sabotage

[–] CoolerOpposide@hexbear.net 20 points 2 days ago

Top minds on the job. Real best of the best

[–] LeninsBeard@hexbear.net 2 points 1 day ago

I think that the blacked out email is the email of some student or other faculty who sent the initial disappointed email to this Trivers fella.

Being normal: not being in the Epstein Files

Being a GOAT: Being in the Epstein files denouncing Epstein with literally violent vehemency. They wanted him but coildnt have him, being someone they wanted to compromise but couldn't means quite a bit for a political figure. They wanted him in the fold.

[–] Kumikommunism@hexbear.net 27 points 2 days ago

Wait, so Trivers responded to that article with "what about the US invasion of Iraq"? Was he using that as a defense, or trying to gotcha Norm with Norm's own criticism of the invasion? What the fuck is that email?

[–] Coolkidbozzy@hexbear.net 12 points 1 day ago (1 children)

that settles it, norm killed epstein

[–] eldavi@lemmy.ml 5 points 1 day ago

can you blame him? lol

[–] Alaskaball@hexbear.net 27 points 2 days ago (3 children)

Legit one of the coolest guys I've had the honor of meeting

[–] Muinteoir_Saoirse@hexbear.net 20 points 2 days ago (3 children)

Much less cool to meet if you are trans

[–] Alaskaball@hexbear.net 19 points 2 days ago* (last edited 2 days ago)

we had trans people in the meeting with him, we just made sure to keep him on topic about ragging on the israelis and his literary work on Israel and Palestine. very easy to distract and redirect. in fact he had a moment he was starting to complain about 'the damn wokes' that we just quickly wheeled him back into bashing the Dersh for trying to smear his name.

[–] GalaxyBrain@hexbear.net 14 points 2 days ago (1 children)

He is cool in his area of expertise and should be mostly ignored in his opinion of anytjing else. He didn't investigate and had no right to speak. He holds this standard for the stuff he knows about and should hold the same for stuff he's ignorant about.

[–] Muinteoir_Saoirse@hexbear.net 14 points 2 days ago (2 children)

His most recent book is entirely about how he is a "rebel" against woke. He has decided that is his expertise, and so you can't say he "didn't investigate" it. He did, and came down on the side of being an old crank who makes fun of pronouns.

[–] Muinteoir_Saoirse@hexbear.net 12 points 2 days ago* (last edited 2 days ago)

There are also some solid Palestinian critique to his prominence in even talks about Palestine. Aside from the racism involved in elevating a non-Palestinian as a voice of authority (a struggle Palestinians have spoken about at length, where their opinions are only considered legitimized by acceptance by Jewish people), he has spoken over Palestinians, and has called BDS a cult, has argued against the dismantling of Israel (though he may have changed his tune on that one), and has blamed Palestinians who call for the end of Israel for their own victimization by elevating Zionist fears into a potential reality and giving imagined cause to oppress Palestinians. Ultimately you could find just as many people to talk about this that don't spend their twilight years as an old academic in the US yelling about woke and cancel culture and punching down on trans people.

I won't discount his work (I've read many of books and find them very useful), but the man himself doesn't impress me.

Edit: long-winded way to say kill your idols. Elevate people's works and actions, but not the people. Hero worship, even of leftists, is counter to the ideology they are espousing anyway

[–] GalaxyBrain@hexbear.net 5 points 2 days ago

Well, that's a bummer. I can say he probavlt didnt investigate it, he can get a book deal for anything he writes and can be as arrogant as he gets mad at others about Israel/Palestine if he feels like it. I doubt he did any real investigation cause his conclusions prove that. He is an old crank tho. I am saying a guy who is only good at one thing is only good at one thing.

[–] BountifulEggnog@hexbear.net 1 points 2 days ago (1 children)

who cares about trans people

[–] Alaskaball@hexbear.net 15 points 2 days ago* (last edited 2 days ago) (1 children)

Even if he's some sort of maoist-trot-luxemburgist(?). He's probably read more Lenin than anyone on the site.

[–] CommCat@hexbear.net 11 points 2 days ago (1 children)

He was a hardcore Maoist in his youth, the Deng reforms really destroyed him. If you're a fan of Finkelstein, Paul Jay did a really great series of interviews with him years ago, pretty funny too.

well when I talked to him he talked my ear off about his love of Luxemburg and Lenin.

[–] CoolerOpposide@hexbear.net 14 points 2 days ago* (last edited 2 days ago) (1 children)

Agreed. Super awesome and fun that he’s exactly the guy he comes across as in all of his public persona. I ran into him in public a few winters ago and we just complained to each other about the rain

[–] Thordros@hexbear.net 21 points 2 days ago

Lucky! All he did when I met him was fail at shoplifting chocolate bars and complain about "electrical infetterence".

[–] CliffordBigRedDog@hexbear.net 21 points 2 days ago

Now This: This 80 year old professor is in the Epstein Files for an amazing reason

[–] videogame@hexbear.net 24 points 2 days ago

Norm was really close with Chomsky too, so I'm glad it seems like he didn't cross over into that world.

they're saying he's the most nimble with words of all time, folks
