Watching them wrestle with this situation is probably the funniest thing I've seen this week but pretty sure Trump worship/racism will win out 😁

History time.

Back in the day, some Left women went to the Right To Life ladies and proposed an alliance.

Nestle was going into Third World countries and giving out free supplies of baby formula. Except they'd only supply enough to make the mothers stop lactating; once mommy stopped producing milk she was forced to buy expensive formula.

The Right To Life women were appalled and wanted to attack Nestle.

Enter Ronald Reagan and the 11th Commandment. He told the women that Conservatives should stand united and not listen to the Left under any circumstances.

If a dozen people were pissing on Reagan's grave, every reason would be different.

[–] sleepmode@lemmy.world 1 points 31 minutes ago

I'm going to borrow that.

[–] MrsDoyle@sh.itjust.works 15 points 9 hours ago (1 children)

The other grim thing about that NestlΓ© story is that often the mothers didn't have access to clean water to mix with the formula, and many babies consequently sickened and died.

We have to think of the share holders.

[–] PunnyName@lemmy.world 23 points 15 hours ago (2 children)

Lots of pro ICE bootlickers in that sub, too.

[–] TankovayaDiviziya@lemmy.world 1 points 3 minutes ago

I'm kinda glad that on Instagram, nobody defends the ICE. Or maybe it's the algorithms just showing me anti-right wing posts.

[–] VitoRobles@lemmy.today 4 points 1 hour ago

Yep! For a brief window, they think for themselves. Then, they get marching orders and suddenly, they conform.

[–] Warl0k3@lemmy.world 63 points 18 hours ago (3 children)

Are they fighting? Just went to check and it seems like the narrative is entirely "protester had it coming"

[–] hansolo@piefed.zip 23 points 13 hours ago

There was a time early on when a few commenters had said "oh, shit. That's not cool."

Mods seemed to have cleaned up the dissent from the Party narrative.

[–] betterdeadthanreddit@lemmy.world 58 points 18 hours ago (3 children)

This post suggests that the appearance of unity is the result of mod censorship.

I caught myself from falling down the rabbit hole after the "Weird Christian Rant". Excerpt:

We have a liberal minded protestor doing what they think is the most justified thing imaginable. I’ve been there before as a young rebellious metal head, and I really feel for the heart of these young protestors just starting life. While at the same time, we have conservative minded federal employees doing what they think is the most justified thing imaginable. Been there recently as an older person who understands the legality and purpose of immigration laws.

The both-sidesing and casual dismissal of "young" people (Pretti was 37). And still that comment got removed.

[–] jballs@sh.itjust.works 4 points 7 hours ago

Yeah that comment bugged me. Was very dismissive like "oh he's young and thought he was on the right side."

[–] Rothe@piefed.social 32 points 16 hours ago (1 children)

That is always what happens with potentially controversial news stories over there. Before any official party narrative have been established, the morons are just freestyling their own thoughts, then the official narrative is established from above, and the morons who freestyled wrong gets erased, and peace and unity reigns once more among the fascists.

It has been the standard practice at least since 2016. The reason they still have any accounts left is because it is nothing but sock puppets and bots.

[–] urandom@lemmy.world 2 points 1 hour ago

Must be nice to be able to dictate a narrative like that. Also to be so annoyingly united. Whereas the opposing side is always fractured and fights amongst itself

[–] daannii@lemmy.world 12 points 18 hours ago (2 children)

That's on par for reddit. At least for the last 12 months.

[–] Brunbrun6766@lemmy.world 24 points 18 hours ago (1 children)

Oh buddy. A lot longer than 12 months

[–] daannii@lemmy.world 10 points 17 hours ago (1 children)

Well yeah but , specifically it's been heavy censorship for the last year.

[–] Rothe@piefed.social 9 points 16 hours ago (2 children)

Nothing to do with anything. That sub has always been one of the most censored subs on reddit, that is the only way they are able to contain it as a propaganda bubble. I have followed it since 2016 and it is the same as it was then.

[–] daannii@lemmy.world 3 points 6 hours ago

I don't think I ever visited it. But I feel like I recall something about conservative people who wanted the Epstein files released were being banned from conservative subs.

[–] tomiant@piefed.social 3 points 15 hours ago

Same here, can attest.

[–] LibertyLizard@slrpnk.net 13 points 17 hours ago

That sub is extremely heavily censored even for Reddit.

[–] Cruxifux@feddit.nl 23 points 16 hours ago (1 children)

Its certainly the narrative being pushed. Every once in a while when something like this happens I like to go on Reddit or Twitter and see what the MAGA social media narrative pushers are trying to do and what people who casually browse their are seeing and saying. MAGA has obviously decided that the rhetoric is that that protester deserved it. A few conservatives and most liberals are angry. Corporate democrat liberals think ICE needs more money for better training.

I think I hate them the most.

[–] Warl0k3@lemmy.world 11 points 16 hours ago* (last edited 16 hours ago) (3 children)

Seems like maybe you should hate the neonazis the most. Just saying, maybe second place is more reasonable.

[–] Cruxifux@feddit.nl 2 points 6 hours ago

Nah, the person I feel more anger towards is the person who claims to be my ally against the nazis and betrays me in favour of said nazis. Both are nazis, one just tries harder, is more deceptive, and is more effective at fucking me.

[–] treesapx@lemmy.world 3 points 7 hours ago

It's in line with MLK's Letter From Birmingham Jail. It's the moderates that angered him the most because at least with the KKK both sides understood each other's position. Enabling violence through sheer ignorance despite best intentions is absolutely frustrating in the least.

[–] TrickDacy@lemmy.world 4 points 14 hours ago

But that wouldn't ensure a Republican victory for any future elections that may happen.

[–] tomiant@piefed.social 24 points 15 hours ago (1 children)

It's Monday. By evening, they will have had their marching orders.

[–] ameancow@lemmy.world 8 points 7 hours ago (1 children)

Yah, I think the left and progressives broadly get too much satisfaction seeing conservative infighting because we project the way we infight onto them, like it's principled and thought-out.

Nah fam, this is like that couple who lives across the apartment complex from you and gets into loud screaming matches every other night, then you see them the next day and they're climbing all over each other in public.

They're reactionaries, they don't have firm values or principles, they just scream whatever they're feeling at the moment, and feelings can change like the wind.

[–] TankovayaDiviziya@lemmy.world 1 points 4 minutes ago

I always think the right values order and group cohesion more, so they let their previous infighting be bygone.
