Trumps ICE is what right wing ammosexual militia types have been furiously masturbating over "the gubmint commin ta git meh" for like 50 years.

and now that the very thing they've feared and prepared for, for decades, is here. Unwarranted arrests, Home Invasions, Government Disappearings... They are A-OK with it, cause anything is OK as long as its their team doing it.

[–] MBech@feddit.dk 16 points 6 days ago (2 children)

Until they get hurt themselves. Then they cry to the media "I didn't vote for this!!!"

[–] A_Random_Idiot@lemmy.world 8 points 6 days ago

of course, thats a given. "They werent supposed to hurt ME, they were supposed to hurt all the people I hate!"

Be the future you want to see.

This erroneously assumes conservatives care about their own constitutional rights.

This is the party of "the only moral abortion is my abortion" and "I hate the gays until my kid comes out gay."

They have no ability to actually visualize it happening to them until it is already too late.

Even when it happens to friends and neighbors, they will find ways to rhetorically and mentally justify it.

Until their own constitutional rights are being impacted directly and personally, they don't give a shit and trying to tell them that they should be concerned is a fools errand.

I don't expect the Republican true believers to be swayed by this. But there is a huge chunk of the US population which doesn't fall neatly into ideological buckets, and which can see why having a gestapo isn't in their interest.

But there is a huge chunk of the US population which doesn’t fall neatly into ideological buckets

Anyone who hasn't made up their mind yet is profoundly mentally defective.

It's easy to fall into that kind of thinking but there are many Americans who aren't privileged enough to have time to think. They work 40+ hour work weeks with 1-2 hour commutes, leaving maybe 4 hours or so in their day to eat, perform all their household chores, and raise their children. They're exhausted. I've worked in a number of warehouses and similar settings so I've known many people like that myself. People who literally do almost nothing with their lives but work.

Those people are already exhausted and exploited. It's a heavy lift to expect them to expend the emotional energy required to both accept how their country is an evil fraud, understand why that's the case, and understand what needs to be done about it. For those people, they need to be steeped in it, fed these concepts wrapped in metaphorical cheese.

Part of class solidarity is compassion. Do you want to feel better than others, or do you want them on your side?

[–] BossDj@piefed.social 6 points 6 days ago

When they're constantly told the other side is "cheating," they will easily believe that it is necessary for them to cheat, too.

Even less-stupid conservatives think that allowing the left to be in charge leads to an inevitability of unadulterated socialism which, in their brain, looks like East Berlin

[–] TrickDacy@lemmy.world 15 points 6 days ago

Conservatives tell us every day that they never actually believed in principles

[–] zr0@lemmy.dbzer0.com 10 points 6 days ago

Conservatives:

[–] qarbone@lemmy.world 5 points 6 days ago

You just have to be somewhat not racist. A lot of these people accept these gross breachs of rights because they would rather no one have rights than everybody have rights.

They might never say those words. And they might believe they'll lose those rights less, so "it's fine." But the core of it is a refusal to allow other people to be.

[–] TheReturnOfPEB@reddthat.com 5 points 6 days ago

they aren't yet concerned about their natural rights as they haven't been challenged yet. and they never believed anyone "deserved" them but themselves.

"But I'm doing just fine" is not a position that can be dis-entrenched by rhetoric. It requires suffering.

[–] devolution@lemmy.world 5 points 6 days ago (1 children)

Conservatives are jacking off to this unless it's their home. In which case conservatives are jacking off to other conservatives being harassed.

FYI conservative women can jack off too. It's called clit manipulation.

[–] PointlessProtestAgainstTheMachine@lemmy.org 3 points 6 days ago* (last edited 6 days ago) (1 children)

Clit manipulation will be banned in red states soon. Just like voting without proper documentation of your birth name, which will prevent most women from entering a polling booth in October.

[–] devolution@lemmy.world 1 points 6 days ago (1 children)

Someone should tell that to the Conservative CrossFit women like MTG.

[–] PointlessProtestAgainstTheMachine@lemmy.org 0 points 6 days ago (1 children)

She will fall in line like all the other conservative women.

[–] devolution@lemmy.world 1 points 6 days ago (1 children)

Rubbing my clit makes Jesus sad. They'll probably say that.

Sad he can’t tap that!! Fucking pervert Jesus. Watching women manipulate.

[–] ClassStruggle@lemmy.ml 3 points 6 days ago (2 children)

The problem is we should be opposing ICE, not just Trump's version. Biden's version has them chasing down Hatians on horseback, slave patrol style. Biden helped build the current infrastructure for trump to exploit.

Liberals only oppose it now because a white woman died.

[–] hardcoreufo@lemmy.world 6 points 6 days ago (1 children)

And now a white man. But more important than race or gender I think people care more because they were US citizens and were murdered in broad daylight. Their murder and rape of immigrants is being done behind closed doors. Sure a story leaks out here and there but we lack the visceral impact of a video.

[–] stringere@sh.itjust.works 1 points 6 days ago* (last edited 6 days ago)

That's one of the details in today's coverage that kept getting under my skin: identifying them as citizens as if that makes it worse.

The already egregious violations of multiple civil rights taking place up to and including the murder are the story, not the victim's immigration status.

If they were not a citizen they are still entitled to all civil rights granted by our constitution; the Bill of Rights makes no mention of citizenship as a condition for the rights enumerated therein nor does the word "citizen" even appear in the text.

If they are allowed to take away one person's rights, all of ours are forfeit.

[–] Bombastion@lemmy.blahaj.zone 2 points 6 days ago (1 children)

Yeah, that really frustrated me because they've killed literally dozens of people in the last year. That said, it got people moving, which is at least something.

[–] ClassStruggle@lemmy.ml 0 points 6 days ago

It got them moving for about a week

[–] eugenevdebs@lemmy.dbzer0.com 1 points 5 days ago

Well liberals aren't opposing it, they're funding it.

And for years didn't do anything because it was hurting the right people. Now that its not, they want to find it still but with marked vans because that solves the Stazi founded to beat up brown people.

[–] givesomefucks@lemmy.world 39 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Been true since ICE was created, but too many "moderates" didn't care till they saw they might be the victim too.

We're like 2/3s of the way thru "first they came for" and people still don't realize it

[–] ClassStruggle@lemmy.ml 3 points 6 days ago (1 children)

They didn't care until a white woman died. Prior to her the only ones called to abolish ice are leftists.

[–] 7101334@lemmy.world 2 points 5 days ago

"Being a leftist in America is being correct first and everyone hating you for it"
