"We must protect the outcomes of the George W Bush administration"

Isn't "third way" a euphemism for fascism??? Kinda telling on themselves

i hate how for liberals, pushing back against fascists is always "exactly what they want don't do it"

[–] FleshStaysTogether@lemmygrad.ml 24 points 1 day ago (2 children)

Not a single drop of fight in them. Useless.

Why the fuck would they call themselves third way? Thats the name of a Nazi party where I live. Couldnt get more subtle than that, huh?

Reactionary reformism, you love to see it.

"We can't get rid of the president's private unaccountable personal army, that would negate the political incentive to make it slightly better"

Utter derangement

What if instead of better things, we do worse things but pretend they're better than they would have been without our heroism and leadership.

GTA: Vice City is a full year older than the formation of ICE. The Nintendo GameCube predates both ICE and the DHS. Liberals act like our nazi agencies are these eternal pillars of American society and yet have barely existed a few decades.

Yes I date things according to video games get off my case

[–] CthulhusIntern@hexbear.net 20 points 1 day ago

Honestly, there is something to that, make people realize how much stuff has been around longer than ICE and the DHS.

Like, Ric Flair's whole wrestling career went on for longer than they've been around.

[–] Belly_Beanis@hexbear.net 13 points 1 day ago

The US also wasn't founded with police. They didn't exist until much, much later. People look at you like you're a talking horse if you try and bring this up.

[–] NephewAlphaBravo@hexbear.net 65 points 1 day ago (1 children)

"abolish ice" is the compromise position

[–] spectre@hexbear.net 18 points 1 day ago (2 children)

I know the hexbear take on this, but we need to pitch liberals on "prosecute ICE or fuck off (after it is abolished)"

Needs a bit of workshopping to get it to fit on a bumper sticker, but in order for your comment to be true, there needs to be a quantity of people beyond that. The more extreme positions are certainly out there, but they won't carry the numbers alone.

[–] Spike@hexbear.net 1 points 18 hours ago

Shoot them all and let God sort them out

[–] NephewAlphaBravo@hexbear.net 14 points 1 day ago (1 children)

something something nuremburg 2

[–] spectre@hexbear.net 17 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Let's get it well rooted as the center-left position.

Let's also take a moment to point out that the Biden administration did nothing to prevent this, even after "abolish ice" and "kids in cages" were loudly shouted back in 2018.

I agree

The slogan should be "imprison ICE"

[–] Rom@hexbear.net 34 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Line up against the wall please Mr. iceman.

What bothers me about this isn’t Third Way adopting a weaselly triangulation that appeals to no one. That’s a “fork found in kitchen” situation.

No, it’s this:

Third Way, in a memo to Democrats shared first with NBCNews

Putting the thinnest, slimiest veneer of journalism on what is just PR boosting. There’s no news here, nothing of importance, just some lanyards’ opinion being laundered as news; the headline doesn’t identify who is warning, giving the impression of this being a general sentiment, and the body fails to make clear the political bias of the group in question.

[–] trenching_tool@hexbear.net 33 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago)

Throw these people off the fucking rooftops please I'm done reading this shit

[–] InternetLefty@hexbear.net 18 points 1 day ago

Abolish ICE is a pretty mainstream liberal opinion, or at least it is now for the libs in e.g. the Twin Cities who have seen ICE goons doing all sorts of heinous shit over the last few weeks

[–] tocopherol@hexbear.net 47 points 1 day ago

Politically, it is lethal

GOOD stalin-gun-1 stalin-gun-2

When Biden took over, the concentration camps became holding facilities. What will these thugs become when the next blue fucker comes along?

[–] WhatDoYouMeanPodcast@hexbear.net 26 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago)

Wait. If this is the case, then wouldn't the two political parties behave like a ratcheting system? The Republicans push it forward and the Democrats prevent backflow? Has anyone ever noticed this? Perhaps someone has said something before the 2020 election or whatever? 2024 election? Please! I'm a serious adult political party that pays millions and millions of dollars for insights for political campaigns.

Don't bother telling me if you didn't go to Harvard or USC or something though

if you sent the modern Democratic Party back to the 1860s and subbed out the 1860s Republican Party, the resultant party system would ardently uphold the sanctity of the institution of chattel slavery. not even in a 13th Amendment exception way. it would just remain unapologetically legal.

House Resolution to Condemn John Brown (passes nigh-unanimously. sensible bipartisan values. bravely reaching across the aisle. we need to heal the nation.)

[–] THEPH0NECOMPANY@hexbear.net 40 points 1 day ago

Anyone could win a primary at this point by going up the stage and saying "Fuck ICE and Fuck Israel" and simply leaving, at this point your throwing if this isn't your starter position

Republicans warned to steer clear of the 'abolish slavery' slogan

Republicans need to drop the “abolish slavery” political slogan if they have hope of winning back the majority in Congress, a center-left think tank is warning.

Third Way, in a memo to Republicans shared first with NBCNews, warned Republicans against talking in extreme terms in the wake of the highly charged days following the execution of John Brown.

“The impulse is emotional. The slogan is simple. But politically, it is lethal,” a memo written by Sarah Pierce and Lanae Erickson, leaders in social policy for Third Way. “Every call to abolish slavery risks squandering one of the clearest opportunities in years to secure meaningful reform of agricultural labor — while handing Democrats exactly the fight they want.”

Okay how about “abolish trump’s personal paramilitary” does that work? If we Cheeto man bad can we get the libs on board?

Christ these people are more stubborn than a cat fighting to take medicine

Oh who am I kidding this dipshit is paid to either think this way or because they already think this way

[–] oliveoil@hexbear.net 11 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago)

Thinktank name: Third Way

They're giving the game away. They're overplaying their hand here.

I'm mean. No no. This is totally convincing. I am convinced. Man capitalism sucks. I wish there was some sort of third way. Oh wow look at that, some think tank here is sure convincing me of how to do that!

[–] CthulhusIntern@hexbear.net 13 points 1 day ago

Let's do the thing that hasn't worked the past 26 years again! We need it in order to win back ~~our big corporate donors~~ median voters!

[–] Infamousblt@hexbear.net 14 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago) (1 children)

Democrats need to move right of the GOP if they have any hope of winning. Once they've done that and they've won then they can abandon their campaign promises and do nothing for 2 years, get slammed in the midterms, spend 2 more years capitulating to the now right wing legislature, and then lose the presidency to an even more far right version of the GOP.

Sweaty this isn't complicated you just have to vote and this is the outcome you'll get. I know it's not perfect but it's the best we can do right now

[–] DragonBallZinn@hexbear.net 10 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago)

Even if dems are controlled opposition, it’s hilarious how this song and dance is peddled.

“We need to be exactly like the GOP Americans know and love or they won’t vote for us. Let’s give Republicans everything they want or they will get elected and simply take it!”

Do you know what brand loyalty is? Republicans have it in spades. The current American electorate really…REALLY fucking loves the GOP. If one had the choice between a name brand product and an off-brand for the same price, the name brand wins every time. Appeal to non-voters and give them a reason to vote.

I don’t care if they’re controlled opposition, it’s painful seeing the “is pepsi ok?” party never change their losing gimmick.

[–] TreadOnMe@hexbear.net 10 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago)

Where was this reform the last four years then? I swear these journalists are the vilest scum suckers.

Sarah Pierce and Lanae Erickson, face the fucking wall

emotional: seeking to disband and demobilize the Gestapo to prevent further harm.

rational public policy to protect: extrajudicial executions carried out in the streets by the Gestapo as they scream in white nationalist rage.
