Cuba needs nukes.
I feel really bad for the people of Cuba. They have so much dignity, ingenuity and potential. They could have been the China of the Caribbean, had they not been under constant siege by a brutal fascist empire.
Welcome to c/news! We aim to foster a book-club type environment for discussion and critical analysis of the news. Our policy objectives are:
To learn about and discuss meaningful news, analysis and perspectives from around the world, with a focus on news outside the Anglosphere and beyond what is normally seen in corporate media (e.g. anti-imperialist, anti-Zionist, Marxist, Indigenous, LGBTQ, people of colour).
To encourage community members to contribute commentary and for others to thoughtfully engage with this material.
To support healthy and good faith discussion as comrades, sharpening our analytical skills and helping one another better understand geopolitics.
We ask community members to appreciate the uncertainty inherent in critical analysis of current events, the need to constantly learn, and take part in the community with humility. None of us are the One True Leftist, not even you, the reader.
Newcomm and Newsmega Rules:
The Hexbear Code of Conduct and Terms of Service apply here.
Link titles: Please use informative link titles. Overly editorialized titles, particularly if they link to opinion pieces, may get your post removed.
Content warnings: Posts on the newscomm and top-level replies on the newsmega should use content warnings appropriately. Please be thoughtful about wording and triggers when describing awful things in post titles.
Fake news: No fake news posts ever, including April 1st. Deliberate fake news posting is a bannable offense. If you mistakenly post fake news the mod team may ask you to delete/modify the post or we may delete it ourselves.
Link sources: All posts must include a link to their source. Screenshots are fine IF you include the link in the post body. If you are citing a Twitter post as news, please include the Xcancel.com (or another Nitter instance) or at least strip out identifier information from the twitter link. There is also a Firefox extension that can redirect Twitter links to a Nitter instance, such as Libredirect or archive them as you would any other reactionary source.
Archive sites: We highly encourage use of non-paywalled archive sites (i.e. archive.is, web.archive.org, ghostarchive.org) so that links are widely accessible to the community and so that reactionary sources don’t derive data/ad revenue from Hexbear users. If you see a link without an archive link, please archive it yourself and add it to the thread, ask the OP to fix it, or report to mods. Including text of articles in threads is welcome.
Low effort material: Avoid memes/jokes/shitposts in newscomm posts and top-level replies to the newsmega. This kind of content is OK in post replies and in newsmega sub-threads. We encourage the community to balance their contribution of low effort material with effort posts, links to real news/analysis, and meaningful engagement with material posted in the community.
American politics: Discussion and effort posts on the (potential) material impacts of American electoral politics is welcome, but the never-ending circus of American Politics© Brought to You by Mountain Dew™ is not welcome. This refers to polling, pundit reactions, electoral horse races, rumors of who might run, etc.
Electoralism: Please try to avoid struggle sessions about the value of voting/taking part in the electoral system in the West. c/electoralism is right over there.
AI Slop: Don't post AI generated content. Posts about AI race/chip wars/data centers are fine.
Cuba needs nukes.

He always does this shit. No matter how the county responds the regime just claims "they refused to make a deal" and blocks the public from seeing how the county responds. Just like Afghanistan was trying to turn over Osama.
may they kill every imperialist dog that touches their island
They had a deal with the US, Trump ripped it up
I'm so depressed...
No one seems to know for sure what Trump means by “make a deal”, but it’s reasonable to assume he wants the government to effective end itself and hand over the country to the US. Cuba survived the Special Period with conceding, I believe they will get through this, too.
honestly, I am starting to get triggered by the phrase "make a deal" - this guy can't actually negotiate a deal to save his life, but he keeps beating that drum anyway
He's great at making a deal. His version of this is "give me everything I want or I'll kill you and destroy your country." He has all the worlds military power at his disposal and the willingness to use it and the backing of the troops. He can make any deal that he wants.
It's probably the only time he's ever actually been savvy at making deals.
Horrible corrupt business man has to trick ferengi populace into electing him grand nagus, lower decks special, 2026.
Wish Cuba still had nukes
Same
Rest in piss cornman.
The DPRK has the opportunity to do the funniest thing rn
when are all these countries he’s threatening going to put together a coalition of the willing
Inb4: BREAKING NEWS Trump has done the impossible. The entire world has called a truce just to team up against America.
Trump is actually playing 20D chess, by uniting the world against him and losing he will teach the world once again about the horrors of fascism
St. Donnie will die for our sins
edit: Isn't this the plotline for an anime, I forgot which one
Kind of attack on titan I think?
evol@lemmy.today Code Geass
Yeah Attack on Titan was kinda trying to go for the same thing but then fucked up the ending and just ended up being pro fascism and pro genocide and pro ecocide
Depends on how much you think the author "fucked up" a good ending vs "wanted just enough plausible deniability to hide their fascist worldview."
He based a character on a real Japanese general who was involved in the colonization of Korea, so he's at the very least :sus:
Yeah it really sucks. I'll still always have the clip of that rich asshole having an anti-jew speech ending it with "we need a final solution" only to get turned into a surprise snack
Fuck yeah this one, Trump is just pulling a Lelouch. How did I not see this 30D chess
To be fair for Lelouch it was also not 30D chess from his side, he only decided this after his every other plan failed.
when they get or the US loses nukes
Holy fuck - is he actually going to attack Cuba soon?
FUCK YOU AND FUCK KHRUSHCHEV BURN IN HELL
Fuck im so angry he took the nukes away fuck
Step 1: Get nukes.
Putin can't rock the boat guys. Trump is just a week away from making Ukraine give him Donetsk oblast! Giving Cuba the nukes back would jeopardize everything.
I get China copium but who here is actually hoping for Putin?
I don't get China copium. Haven't they completely subscribed to the International Law model?
The Neoliberals have awful policies, but at least they don't give a shit about the rules based order, so naturally people will cheer for the devil if he's the only one willing to help.
Yes but internationalism from a lost era still fuels peoples hearts. They believe it because they want to.
Subscribing to the international law model is equivalent to inviting foreign capital in to invest in China - it's using the opponent's energy against it.
One thing that has been true for a while now is that while the US claims to be all about international law, it violates it constantly. But the US continues to use it justify sanctions and violence and rally many countries to common cause.
If China also subscribes to International Law and behaves better than the US, why would it be any different than say Luxembourg or Zimbabwe doing the same? Because of economics. As China ascends to the dominant economic position in the globe, and as it becomes capable of protecting other nations, more and more countries will be able to use International Law against the US.
We're hoping the US is actually a paper tiger. If the US defeats one of its strongest opponents, it's a signal that the US is much much stronger than we believed, and that has massive consequences
Nigeria, Venezuela, Greenland, Mexico, and now Cuba? Can US even afford this many conflicts anymore?
Don't have to. Just bully each one, most fold, make examples out of those who don't with limited strikes, assassinations, kidnappings, sanctions, etc until they fold and move on. Cuba's the only one that cannot really fold. The only thing they can offer the US is total capitulation and installation of a fascist neo-liberal dictatorship for the west.
Also currently active in Somalia, Ukraine, Lebanon (via proxy, but not only), Syria, Iran (covert) and also threatening Colombia, Canada, China, Russia.
not boots on the ground but they could blow up a lot of shit and abduct or assassinate more people
May Cuba prevail against the YanKkkee empire
Cuba will fight
Please make a deal with us before it's too late for our crumbling empire to bully you into unequal terms.
Deal like they proposed to Venezuela? It was not a deal, it was ultimatum and agreeing to it would mean plunder and decades of humanitarian crisis.
Bay of Cheetos? Idk come back to me I'll come up with a better one

A second Bay of Pigs has hit the country
