I feel like I'm going crazy because there's a strange landmass in the Cantabrian Sea that no-one seems to be mentioning

Accidental Trans Flag spotted on TERF Island

I like to imagine someone intentionally designed the color coding around the UK results just to troll the transphobes.

I've talked to Scandinavian who said that post was BS. Yes Scandinavians are more standoffish and private but if you're over at their place they offer you food, and alcohol. Actually they're kinda aggressive about the later one.

Norwegian here, the person you talked to was right.

Yeah!

Anyway, want a beer?

the other word for guest is not-yet-sold-as-a-slave in swedish. true story.

The Netherlands:
Very unlikely to give you food, very likely to send you a request for reimbursement if you are

[–] BobDole@hexbear.net 23 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Receiving a €0,65 tikke for the coffee in my friend’s flat.

[–] ReadFanon@hexbear.net 12 points 1 day ago

"I had a black coffee. To account for not adding milk, please adjust the tikkie to €0,60. Thanks"

When you're a kid who goes over to a classmate's house after school, and a few hours later their Dutch crackkker parents are like: "Sorry, but you have to go home now. We're about to eat stamppot." yummy

Interesting if you overlay the "wash hands after using the bathroom" infographic...

Netherlands in shambles

Turkey is the only safe bet, anywhere else it's either starvation or an E. coli infection

[–] Awoo@hexbear.net 20 points 1 day ago (1 children)

A weather related cultural phenomenon perhaps? The hottest countries seem to be the most likely to share food?

Martin Luther strikes again

[–] SuperZutsuki@hexbear.net 25 points 1 day ago

posting "Feeding guests is for losers, actually"

[–] plinky@hexbear.net 11 points 1 day ago

the parents named him after lutherfisk, another true story that euros won't tell you. that's why he was so obsessed with poop texture.

Always a safe bet

As far as the west goes: once again the celts seem to be alright.

Want to say Italy too, but judging by Mussolini…yeah no wonder the Bible roasted us so hard lmao.

[–] Redcuban1959@hexbear.net 15 points 1 day ago (2 children)

Tbh the italians did ended up killing mussolini themselfs. The problem is that they didn't killed the rest of the fascists.

[–] Andrzej3K@hexbear.net 3 points 18 hours ago

They only did that because he tried to ban pasta

[–] Kefla@hexbear.net 3 points 1 day ago

They didn't even finish off the fascist mussolinis, truly a half-assed job

[–] Carcharodonna@hexbear.net 23 points 1 day ago (2 children)

Have you even seen lutefisk? Offering that to guests would probably scare them away. This is also why the English usually don't offer food either. Imagine going into someone's house and being offered "spotted dick" or some such ridiculous nonsense.

Rumor has it that Gordon Ramsay is so angry because he hasn't recovered from the childhood trauma of being raised eating English food.

Imagine being offered a baby's head from someone from great Yarmouth

[–] LeonTreatsky@hexbear.net 10 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Any time I've been in any of the red zones I've been offered food as a guest. At least one country in the red zone has a custom of paying for your coffee/lunch if they invite you out.

That said I can't vouch for the Dutch and most of the time I expect then to act more like doppelgangers than real human creatures.

[–] chgxvjh@hexbear.net 1 points 17 hours ago (1 children)

Do the Dutch even have food? Can't think of a single Dutch food item.

[–] Shelena@feddit.nl 2 points 16 hours ago (1 children)

Stroopwafels and Gouda cheese

[–] SkingradGuard@hexbear.net 3 points 16 hours ago (1 children)

And uhhh, vague almond flavoured stuff?

[–] Umechan@hexbear.net 1 points 10 hours ago

And frite sauce too. I refuse to eat fries with ketchup now that I know how superior frite sauce is.

There's also their colonialist appropriations like rijsttafel, which is basically Indonesian food served in smaller tapas-like portions.

I like how the "SWIPE FOR MORE INFO" is perfectly inside Ukraine.

[–] gramxi@hexbear.net 16 points 1 day ago (2 children)

is this only meals or does it include snacks and drinks?

[–] Redcuban1959@hexbear.net 14 points 1 day ago (2 children)

I think this mostly include meals, I heard that is quite common for people in England to share tea with a visitor or a friend.

[–] bdonvr@thelemmy.club 13 points 1 day ago

Oh yeah "Let me put some tea on for you" is stereotypical

[–] blunder@hexbear.net 7 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Tea the drink or tea the meal????????
