"Hitler loved my joke about gassing the Jews" isn't exactly proving your point, Dave.

[–] SARGE@startrek.website 31 points 1 month ago

I'm sure the proud boys or kkk would love some of the racist jokes I've heard at work.

I wonder how Chapel would appreciate them.

Becoming a real life Clayton Bigsby.

I believe it. I'm sure the King requested that everyone have a good time too.

as long as you follow the rules fozzi bear did in family guy, this probably how it went in saudia arabia, like fozzi bear skit.

It boggles my mind that this is the same guy who walked away from a multi-year, multimillion dollar TV deal with Comedy Central because he saw a white dude laughing a little too hard at his jokes about race. The fact that he could have that moment of reflection, but not extend it to other marginalized groups, just shows the complete lack of empathy he has in his soul.

[–] NauticalNoodle@lemmy.ml 12 points 1 month ago

I think his receiving the Mark Twain prize went to his head.

The whole Comedy Central thing never sat well with me. Here’s my poor ass listening to this rich mother fucker who made it big, complain about how other rich fuckers “took his money”. It was never relatable, and it just felt like rich people feuding to me. That’s when I started to see Dave as a wealthy man first and above all. My instinct proved true when he just got worse and worse and became less and less human.

He can visits the hood and pretend he’s still from the streets all he wants, even though he never was. But I ain’t buying it. He likely gets back in his truck and uses the sanitizer and complains about the little people like diddy. He’s a fake and has no idea how real people live and think. He only hangs out with billionaires.

“They said, ‘Well, Saudi Arabia killed a journalist,’ and rest in peace, Jamal Khashoggi. I’m sorry that he got murdered in such a heinous fashion. And also, look, bro, Israel’s killed 240 journalists in the last three months, so I didn’t know y’all were still counting.”

he does have one well-thought message, albeit with incorrect addressing and postage

now that i look it up, he does already condemn israel much more than palestine (and gotten flak for it). he even called israel a war criminal back in oct 2023. i wonder how this hasn't caused certain senators including MAGA to try and cancel him yet...

[–] Rothe@piefed.social 23 points 1 month ago (1 children)

Typical whataboutist deflection. He tries to hide the fact that he is a snivelling piece of shit.

He's a Muslim, I think it was safe to assume he's not a fan of Israel BEFORE the current iteration of the genocide against Palestinians tbh.

Though I don't even remember his trans jokes being intentionally malicious or anything. More like... Just poor taste and then he doubled down on it.

It hardly matters at this point. Even if it wasn't malicious at first, it became malicious as soon as he doubled down, and tripled down, and quadrupled down...

[–] Wrufieotnak@feddit.org 7 points 1 month ago

The correct and moral decision isn't 'I work for all murderous regimes', it is 'I work for no murderous regime'.

Simple as that and he failed. And before somebody comes with 'but what about USA/China/UK' I said all. And there is also a big difference between working in a country and being invited by the rulers of the country.

To this day, I will never not be convinced he went down the far-right bigotry rabbithole because Elon Musk and/or other oligarchs are paying him to take that stance.

It seems no coincidence to me that after he started attacking the trans community, he invited Musk on stage and tried to defend him from the booing crowd.

[–] ech@lemmy.ca 61 points 1 month ago* (last edited 1 month ago)

He got too rich, had a crisis of conscience, then took some time in Africa to end up deciding that money > conscience.

In short, no one's "paying him" to be a bigot, he's just the typical rich piece of shit. He defends other rich pieces of shit because that's what rich pieces of shit do.

[–] MiddleAgesModem@lemmy.world 24 points 1 month ago

Dude had enough money and it probably stretched even further in Africa.

He's been out of the spotlight for a while and is out of touch. Super disappointing comeback.

[–] inb4_FoundTheVegan@lemmy.world 8 points 1 month ago

I'm not sure the time line supports that. Dave was making tasteless and bigoted jokes about trans folk well before Elon/Netflix special. Who knows, maybe money was secretly changing hands. But even if so, Dave was the one to sell himself out. All the blame still falls directly to him.

[–] HotsauceHurricane@lemmy.world 44 points 1 month ago

Fuck Dave & his dumbass jokes too.

[–] MeekerThanBeaker@lemmy.world 39 points 1 month ago* (last edited 1 month ago)

Should've stayed "retired." Should've listened to his dad and got out, but no... gotta suck on that green dick.

[–] YiddishMcSquidish@lemmy.today 32 points 1 month ago (4 children)

Goes to a place that slavery is still legal, they like his jokes, he doesn't see the problem.

It’s a shame Dave Chappelle died immediately after Chappelle’s Show ended. He sure was a funny guy when he was still alive!

Of course they did, Dave. They're just as bigoted as you are.

[–] Makhno@lemmy.world 25 points 1 month ago (2 children)

Dave's on the menu now when we start eating the rich, right?

[–] Karjalan@lemmy.world 18 points 1 month ago (1 children)

He was well before this. When he was in his local town hall complaining that they were making affordable housing near him and letting "the poors" get too close.

[–] FatVegan@leminal.space 9 points 1 month ago

I didn't hate him when he made trans jokes, i just don't find them funny and everyone should be allowed to not be funny. But i found it truly disgusting when he pulled elon musk on stage just to show off his wealthy friend. What a disgusting human being.

I started watching his latest Netfux special and he just wasn’t funny to me at all. Bragging about all his wealth, buying a white hippy town, defending his Saudi Arabia sellout because “haha I’m a rich n*gga”, and then a joke about a falcon killing a trans and “his dick popped out”, but it turns out killing a trans person only being a misdemeanour in SA. Har har. Just predicable, and felt like a real grift. Turned it off and watched some show with Fran Lebowitz instead - that one was at least pretty funny, if not also a grift.

[–] some_guy@lemmy.sdf.org 16 points 1 month ago

I gauge all of my work against regimes that murder people, so this seems reasonable. Fucking asshole.

[–] Eh_I@lemmy.world 15 points 1 month ago

Late entry for weird flex of the year.

[–] AllNewTypeFace@leminal.space 13 points 1 month ago

Looks like he’s found his happy place

[–] WanderWisley@lemmy.world 11 points 1 month ago (1 children)

Dave should have never come back from Africa.

[–] kandoh@reddthat.com 16 points 1 month ago

When Richard Pryor came back from Africa he said there were so many different types of people there and vowed never to use the n-word ever again.

When Dave Chappele came back from africa he said there were a lot of broke n***ers over there and vowed never to turn down a dollar ever again.

[–] minorkeys@lemmy.world 10 points 1 month ago* (last edited 1 month ago)

And made a shit ton of money bringing laughter to slavers while we work ourselves to death and suffer from having a conscience. We really do need to get together and figure out how to actually start changing things without self imploding. Evil is very much winning.

[–] PalmTreeIsBestTree@lemmy.world 10 points 1 month ago

He’s been making shitty trans jokes for about 10 years now. It’s so lazy…he needs to move on.

Honestly I stopped watching it halfway through when I realized it was just gonna be a jerk fest. Some of it was funny but the whole thing felt like comedy for controversy’s sake rather than controversy for comedy’s sake. It just felt… forced in a way that I didn’t really vibe with. I think his circular style is kinda trite at this point too, the older he gets the more rambly it all feels.

[–] cv_octavio@piefed.ca 9 points 1 month ago (2 children)

Good for you, you unfunny, useless, ignoramus of a fucking clown. Nothing you've uttered in the last decade and a half has been amusing, let alone funny, save to perhaps your close-minded bigot.
