The only surprise here is that none of these silicon valley ghouls have named their startup "Omelas LLC" yet.
I was going to crack a joke that they don't read authors whose names sound like a fantasy saga (Le Guin) but they read Tolkien
Also they're naming their stuff after LotR or GoT, and apparently they were enamored by the wrong side, such as naming their company 'palantir'
They don't read Tolkien, they watch Jackson. And skim fan wikis.
Somehow even worse than the edgy 2nd wave black metal guys who named all their bands after LOTR stuff. They at least had to skim the actual books.

they do a direct conversion so if the kid was bigger they would have been able to feed people longer. unfortunately he was small. the capitalism deathgods were not impressed.

Ursula had a fantastic idea for a utopian society, but she had a very pessimistic outlook on it; it's not all dreary and bleak and so blech child sacrifice, it's WHOLESOME and FILLING YOU WITH GOODNESS child sac- okay I see how this looks
Omelas is only a word. The reality is much, much worse.
City stops withholding food from the homeless for one year.
