Your religion sets rules for you. I don’t practice your religion. You don’t get to inflict your beliefs on me. Fuck off.

[–] stiffyGlitch@lemmy.world 2 points 16 hours ago (1 children)

wait is that to me or to her

[–] ContriteErudite@lemmy.world 2 points 12 hours ago* (last edited 12 hours ago) (1 children)

I think it was directed at the second party. But also shouted at the boundless void in the hope that someone, something, anything with the power to make things make sense hears us. Just like most of my posts.

i feel that way sometimes. one time i was tracking a little group of 5 deer (2 female, one male, and two 5-month-old fawns), and i had lost them. i said "shit." and somebody said "what's wrong?" to which i replied "i lost the deer i was tracking." "hmmm." said the voice sympathetically. "yes, that will happen sometimes. no matter." i then realized that somebody was talking to me when i shouldn't be talking to people nobody knew about my secret place in the woods. "wait." i said turning around. it was a bird. "yes?" the bird cocked his head. it was a cardinal. my patron bird. "is something the matter?" "yes," i said, "you're a talking bird." the bird twitched his feathers. "is that a problem?" i shook my head. "no, i just was surprised. ive never seen a talking bird before." "well, now you have. but im here for a very special reason." "what reason is that?" "Extremely special. but, before i tell you, I must tell you my name." "my name is Red." dun dun dunnnnnnnnn its actually a story I'm writing so tune in for more soon

that's what I said I was like what was that about

[–] surewhynotlem@lemmy.world 8 points 1 day ago (1 children)

"I'm on a diet. It's wrong for you to eat donuts."

[–] yakko@feddit.uk 5 points 22 hours ago (1 children)

It's extra funny because the most homophobic people have big "you brought donuts to the office and now I hate you" energy

[–] surewhynotlem@lemmy.world 1 points 13 hours ago (1 children)

Maybe that's exactly it. Maybe they hate gay people because they hate the temptation that they offer.

[–] yakko@feddit.uk 2 points 13 hours ago

Let's not pretend we're breaking new ground here, it's been that way a while

[–] C1pher@lemmy.world 4 points 20 hours ago

I dont hate happy people, wtf?

[–] Rooty@lemmy.world 7 points 1 day ago (2 children)

Now imagine being bombarded by this nonsense for 12 years during your formative years, because I don't have to imagine.

[–] QuinnyCoded@sh.itjust.works 5 points 22 hours ago* (last edited 22 hours ago) (1 children)

my dad believed it for 50 sum years. He was told to get married and have kids, my mom knew he was gay when they got married. When she outed him last year we ALL knew (well, thought he was bi anyways).

Now he's fully out, my mom hasn't talked to me in about 10 months, and I have boobs now.

Honestly, realizing how painfully masculine the average straight man is, is so much worse of a realization than discovering my own dad is gay.

[–] HarneyToker@lemmy.world 1 points 22 hours ago (1 children)

What is a painfully masculine trait?

[–] essell@lemmy.world 2 points 13 hours ago (1 children)

The classic is "big boys don't cry"

Masculine social standard. Personally painful and shaming for a lot of guys

[–] aloofPenguin@lemmy.world 1 points 13 hours ago

Yeah, that honestly sucks, sometimes I just want/ need someone to talk to.

[–] SkyezOpen@lemmy.world 36 points 1 day ago (1 children)

we can't control who we love

yes we can

The biggest self report. It means they are gay/bi and choosing to repress it. They think everyone feels that way.

[–] stiffyGlitch@lemmy.world 5 points 1 day ago (2 children)

I dunno, she has a boyfriend... Also she's Catholic and was taught by everybody she was around that being gay is wrong and always had supervision while playing with girls up until she was 17 but maybe

[–] VindictiveJudge@lemmy.world 6 points 1 day ago (1 children)

always had supervision while playing with girls

That absolutely sounds like she expressed attraction toward another girl when she was little and someone decided they needed to keep an eye on her.

[–] stiffyGlitch@lemmy.world 1 points 16 hours ago

her parents wanted her not to so if she did they would stop it

[–] sem@piefed.blahaj.zone 7 points 1 day ago (2 children)

I knew someone like that who eventually came out of the closet.

[–] Tar_alcaran@sh.itjust.works 4 points 1 day ago

Every pastor who raped a little had that exact back story

[–] stiffyGlitch@lemmy.world 4 points 1 day ago

Hmmm. Maybe...

[–] KoboldCoterie@pawb.social 43 points 1 day ago (3 children)

If what Jesus did or did not say is different depending on what religion you subscribe to, you'd think we could then make the logical conclusion that some portion of what we ascribe to Jesus was not actually what he said, and vice versa...

[–] Carmakazi@piefed.social 16 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Critical analysis of their own dogma isn't something the religious do. Their scripture is literally god's word, everyone who believes otherwise is either a heretic or an outright pagan, that's all the insight required in their worldview.

[–] CompactFlax@discuss.tchncs.de 14 points 1 day ago (2 children)

Their interpretation of scripture is literally god's word

FTFY. That’s where they get the wilggle room “oh he didn’t mean love one another like that

[–] SkyezOpen@lemmy.world 6 points 1 day ago

One of the reason I love Deconstruction Zone. The host has degrees in biblical studies, reads biblical Hebrew and Greek, and was a pastor for 20 years. When Christians complain about "but the context" he drags them through the context face first.

Fun fact: the "love your neighbor" bit literally only refers to those actually close to you. I don't remember the exact word but it's generally accepted to refer to only Hebrews. Also a few verses later God tells you exactly who you're allowed to enslave (anyone from foreign nations).

[–] HeyThisIsntTheYMCA@lemmy.world 1 points 22 hours ago

Yeah pull their hair more

[–] halvar@lemy.lol 9 points 1 day ago (1 children)

oh no he said everything my denomination said he did. every other denomination is misguided.

[–] SkyezOpen@lemmy.world 10 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Literally this times 45,000 and that's Christianity today.

[–] Tar_alcaran@sh.itjust.works 2 points 1 day ago (1 children)

It's pretty much every other religion too.

every other abrahamic religion*

[–] stiffyGlitch@lemmy.world 3 points 1 day ago

try telling her that.

[–] ttyybb@lemmy.world 6 points 1 day ago (4 children)

Let's say, for the sake of argument, being gay is a sin. Isn't one of Jesus' more well known lessons "let he who has never sinned throw the first stone" or something like that? Like his main thing is forgiving people and providing unconditional love. I'd say focusing on someone's perceived sin is straight up non-Christian

[–] Confused_Emus@lemmy.dbzer0.com 4 points 13 hours ago (1 children)

If I don’t sin, what did Sky-Daddy-Incarnate die for?

[–] prole@lemmy.blahaj.zone 4 points 12 hours ago

Irrefutable logic

[–] prole@lemmy.blahaj.zone 2 points 12 hours ago

The whole "hate the sin, not the sinner" is such patronizing bullshit meant to make Christians feel better about themselves for hating people based on immutable characteristics that they're born with.

Never take that shit at face value, none of them actually believe it.

[–] stiffyGlitch@lemmy.world 2 points 16 hours ago
[–] HeyThisIsntTheYMCA@lemmy.world 3 points 23 hours ago

I dunno hanging around with 12 sweaty seamen seems kinda... I dunno, gay?

[–] CameronDev@programming.dev 12 points 1 day ago (1 children)

I bet you choose to be attracted to pans. Sinner.

/s (shouldn't need this right?)

[–] slothrop@lemmy.ca 6 points 1 day ago
