I keep thinking of how recently it was an insult to call someone 'rent-seeking' but it's what the entire economy is built on

[coughs] passive income specialist

[–] decaptcha@hexbear.net 10 points 7 hours ago (1 children)

Sorry if I'm not reading this the way you intended, but was "rent-seeking" ever not meant as derogatory?

[–] Crucible@hexbear.net 8 points 5 hours ago (1 children)

I just meant it was derogatory up until very recently, it would've been uncouth to be openly admitting their business models are about making every single person pay rent on every single thing they interact with but now it's how you get investor money

I'm with you now, thanks! My brain was not cooperating this morning.

Wake up babe it's time to financialise your nuts yes-honey-left yes honey

[–] Monk3brain3@hexbear.net 51 points 14 hours ago (2 children)

The US tech industry is so fucking washed. This counts as innovation? The banks already financialize just about everything. Now we're literally finacializing non existent shit like crypto.

[–] kristina@hexbear.net 27 points 12 hours ago (1 children)

im going to financialize the concept of financialization

all the capitalists are broke now catgirl-happy

[–] Monk3brain3@hexbear.net 10 points 9 hours ago

Lmfao. This just made me think of the mortal Kombat "flawless victory" voice line

Yes, financialize the fake currency whose only use is to speculatively hold and hope you can sell it for more then you paid because other, dumber people are investing in it too!

The next innovation will be to bundle it up like insurance policies and sell those bundles to pension funds as A++ investments.

Which I am sure is already happening, just not on a wide scale. But it's only a matter of time.

[–] WashedAnus@hexbear.net 3 points 4 hours ago

Good thing we got rid of pensions and now it's just 401k's managed by Black Rock

[–] novibe@lemmy.ml 4 points 5 hours ago

I don’t think you understand what’s happening here. They are already WAY past that. This is the commodification and financialisation of everything we do in life. In just existing, acting and reacting to the world, responding to things and people, making choices.

This is the “final frontier” of capitalism.

If we're being for real here, cryptocurrency was financialized from the very beginning.

[–] Monk3brain3@hexbear.net 9 points 9 hours ago

You're right but I think the point is that the crypto clowns are trying/scamming for dear life to expand on the number of ways crypto is financialized.

[–] Monk3brain3@hexbear.net 11 points 13 hours ago

yeah I can definitely see that happen because this scam train just keeps on chugging along

The world stopped being optimistic due to a proliferation of toxic social media algos.

Prediction markets will re-inject society with truth and market-based consensus rather than baseless vitriol.

The future will be better than the past

User's pfp and banner are edgy art of Eli from Attack on Titan, and his profile claims that he's "head of crypto" at the company being discussed in the original tweet.

[–] BodyBySisyphus@hexbear.net 9 points 8 hours ago

Well at least they're honest enough to treat "truth" and "market-based consensus" as distinct concepts
