What is Neurodivergence?

It's ADHD, Autism, OCD, schizophrenia, anxiety, depression, bi-polar, aspd, etc etc etc etc

“neurologically atypical patterns of thought or behavior”

So, it’s very broad, if you feel like it describes you then it does as far as we're concerned

Rules

1.) ableist language=post or comment will probably get removed (enforced case by case, some comments will be removed and restored due to complex situations). repeated use of ableist language=banned from comm and possibly site depending on severity. properly tagged posts with CW can use them for the purposes of discussing them

2.) always assume good faith when dealing with a fellow nd comrade especially due to lack of social awareness being a common symptom of neurodivergence

2.5) right to disengage is rigidly enforced. violations will get you purged from the comm. see rule 3 for explanation on appeals

3.) no talking over nd comrades about things you haven't personally experienced as a neurotypical chapo, you will be purged. If you're ND it is absolutely fine to give your own perspective if it conflicts with another's, but do so with empathy and the intention to learn about each other, not prove who's experience is valid. Appeal process is like appealing in user union but you dm the nd comrade you talked over with your appeal (so make it a good one) and then dm the mods with screenshot proof that you resolved it. fake screenies will get you banned from the site, we will confirm with the comrade you dm'd.

3.5) everyone has their own lived experiences, and to invalidate them is to post cringe. comments will be removed on a case by case basis depending on determined level of awareness and faith

4.) Interest Policing will not be tolerated in any form. Support your comrades in their joy!

Further rules to be added/ rules to be changed based on community input

RULES NOTE: For this community more than most we understand that the clarity and understandability of these rules is very important for allowing folks to feel comfortable, to that end please don't be afraid to be outspoken about amendments and addendums to these rules, as well as any we may have missed

This was published on nature.com.

It looks like the whole article was AI generated. Here are responses from pubpeer.

I never thought I'd see professionals just kind of collectively give up on putting effort into things. Maybe by "fexcectorn" and "frymbial" levels are abnormal?

"nature scientific reports" published it. It's a nature publication but it's really not the same as being published in the journal "nature". Still fucking disturbing but they didn't actually get this shite into one of the most trusted journals in all of academia.

"The west has fallen" was a joke about one of the most prestigious publications in the west publishing this (though this was not actually Nature, just another publication they own and put their name on). Lazy and fraudulent researchers exist everywhere (as you pointed out in another comment in this thread).

[–] insurgentrat@hexbear.net 8 points 1 month ago (1 children)

Nature isn't really a western journal in any meaningful sense. Scientific publishing is pretty international.

Also this isn't the nature, it's nature's open access journal which is a scam by which researchers pay huge amounts of money to have unpaid researchers review their article for free and nature doesn't paywall it as thanks.

Scientific publishing is in the toilet. Science is deeply hierarchical and metric driven, actual science is done by the idealistic and the entrenched, or by accident by people climbing the ladder.

Nature isn't really a western journal in any meaningful sense.

It's an originally British journal, owned by a British company, owned by a British-German parent company. The vast, vast majority of the editors are born in, educated in, or employed in western countries, mostly all 3 from what I can tell.

Also this isn't the nature

Yes, I pointed this out in my comment as well. It's all a scam lmao, they want to have it both ways - a prestigious journal and infinite money from pay-to-publish attached to the name of the prestigious journal.

AI really is causing so many people to shut off their brains because this is quite possibly the most obvious AI slop I’ve ever seen.

[–] thefunkycomitatus@hexbear.net 20 points 1 month ago

This new diagram generation really bothers me. We already have an epidemic of people using bad or unnecessary diagrams to make their work seem more credible than it is. People have already lost the concept of graphic aides. With AI slop it just going to go further and people can easily put any nonsense into a diagram. The idea being that if you can make it into a diagram then it's meaningful. The abuse is now going to be tenfold.

Are bicycles autistic now?

[–] Llituro@hexbear.net 38 points 1 month ago (1 children)

Shutdown Nature, most discerning journal my ass

[–] LeninWeave@hexbear.net 6 points 1 month ago

Nature? More like Hitlure.

[–] Kefla@hexbear.net 37 points 1 month ago (2 children)

I love the brain simply labeled "AUTISM" twice.

[–] Evilphd666@hexbear.net 14 points 1 month ago

Well you see one is an AUTISM affected non binary brain. The other are airborne AUTISM particles from people who take Tylenol. /s

[–] Damarcusart@hexbear.net 36 points 1 month ago

I'm so sick of my autistic friends being accused of missing value and runctitional features sadness

[–] insurgentrat@hexbear.net 35 points 1 month ago (1 children)

Shit like this just affirms my opinion that people who think "ai" (llms and diffusion models) are useful or produce good outputs are literally incapable or perceiving detail.

They wade through life noticing only vague shapes and blobs of colour, getting the vibe of a text and nothing more.

[–] volcel_olive_oil@hexbear.net 9 points 1 month ago

I have a similar belief in that I think many people's brains are just really really good at correcting and filling in sensory input, to the degree that they massively overcorrect and perceive (for example) a stick figure drawing as an anatomically perfect illustration of a human.

[–] woodenghost@hexbear.net 34 points 1 month ago

Wow, that's horrible! Market pressure have been acting on scientists, journals and so on for a while, but with these new tools, what's left of "scientific integrity" will continue to erode even faster.

That's another nice example of a contradiction. Capitalism needs science for innovation to keep increasing productivity and yet it cannibalizes the conditions for it's own existence in it's endless hunger for profit.

what level of autism unlocks no-clipping your legs through your seat?

[–] TerrificBeanOnOwl@hexbear.net 28 points 1 month ago

It says autism score 0.93 next to the bicycle so probably around that level

I get bombarded with tech articles with these nonsensical diagrams on them. Ines going everywhere. Cloud points to database. Database points to python. Cool dude stares at machine with dials that read indentation...

Factor Fexcectorn is my favorite character in the Mad Max universe

[–] LeZero@hexbear.net 10 points 1 month ago

Do not, my friends, become addicted to Tylenol. It will take hold of you, and you will resent it's absence!

[–] LeeeroooyJeeenkiiins@hexbear.net 21 points 1 month ago (1 children)

what if AI has found out the super secret cause of autism and we just simply do not understand it? are frymbial and fexcectorn levels made up nonsense, or have we simply yet to perceive them for ourselves? quick, someone ask the LLM to be smarter and tell us the truth

Reading those comments, wow, that's fucking brazen. Fully hallucinated citations.

Gonna give this whole paper to my scientific writing class on Monday and tell them to find all the AI-induced problems in it.

[–] Xavienth@lemmygrad.ml 8 points 1 month ago

I love one when one radian of a bicycle tire indicates an autism score of 0.93

[–] SchillMenaker@hexbear.net 7 points 1 month ago (1 children)

I genuinely hope that China won't allow shit like this when they're running the show.

[–] insurgentrat@hexbear.net 19 points 1 month ago

The researcher is from China, there is absolutely no reason to believe that lazy fraud is a function of American empire.
