the "somehow" is someone is funding this event. which hey, fine, whatever, but its is just a liberal protest that has government approval. Someone just wants to throw a music festival i guess.

I googled. I was far too generous in my estimate. If the 50501 Movement is saying "4,000 to 6,000+" showed up - that surely means a couple thousand were there.
