Believe it or not, it used to be worse. Like, at one point, any time anyone would even hint at being female, someone would reply "I already checked, guys. She has no GoneWild posts."

[–] Aradino@hexbear.net 34 points 3 days ago (1 children)

It used to be even worse in the tits or gtfo years

[–] nfreak@lemmy.ml 26 points 3 days ago

God I actually somehow forgot how common this used to be. So fucking gross.

When I'm watching a tv show for the first time I like to read discussion threads after each episode, esp if the show is older and I don't have anyone to talk to about it. The easiest ones to find are reddit threads, they show up at the top of the search pretty much every time and there's usually lots of discussion. People say some interesting things but the one pervasive aspect of all these reddit TV discussions is absolute misogyny. If there's a femme character that people find irritating (usually for bad reasons), believe me you will HEAR about it all through the comments. And the same ire is almost never extended to masc characters who share the same traits. Oh they really hate children too, if there's a child acting like a child on a show redditors automatically HATE them, especially if the character is a teenage girl.

The Skyler White phenomenon

[–] nothx@hexbear.net 24 points 3 days ago* (last edited 3 days ago) (1 children)

Wild to see this comment because my wife and I were watching season 1 and harping on how Skyler was right most of the time.

[–] Belly_Beanis@hexbear.net 13 points 3 days ago (1 children)

Between her and Betty Draper, I was absolutely confused when I heard people were hating them. "Did we watch the same show(s)?" I'd ask, looking around at comments on whatever website. The only things they did wrong are thinking their husbands were acting in their families' best interests or not being complete pieces of shit.

Skylar especially couldn't leave because Walt may very well have her killed if she tried. By the end of the show, I doubt Walt even cared about his kids except as extensions of himself. And all Skylar knows is Walt was involved with her brother-in-law's murder. What even is she supposed to do in that situation?

Subtext is for cowards I guess.

"Did we watch the same show(s)?"

This is my exact reaction when I read that shit, it makes me feel like the detractors aren't actually engaging with the art in front of them. They're just weaponizing it against whoever the "other" is at any given time without actually thinking about what they just watched

[–] Belly_Beanis@hexbear.net 4 points 2 days ago

Yeah they just use it as wish fulfillment, rather than absorbing any kind of message the creators might have for them. They get mad when there are characters or people IRL who interfere with that wish fulfillment.

You think theres no horny posting here until you learn there are very specific fetishes

That's why we have the volcel police. The only good cops, after Mulder and Scully.

Sexy sexxers of sexxit, what's the sexiest sex you've ever sexxed?

[–] GrouchyGrouse@hexbear.net 12 points 3 days ago* (last edited 3 days ago) (1 children)

Oh wow you just triggered a memory of mine.

I have a memory clear as a sterling bell of the first time learning that the word “fuck” was a synonym for “sex.” I’d already heard some variations of the cuss word such as “fuckers” and that got me thinking: “what do they call the other ones? The fuckees?” I was like 8 years old.

I thought about that later when I learned about Roman homosexuality and how you were masculine if you were a ‘fucker’ and you were feminine if you were a ‘fuckee.’ It sorta became my private joke to use this word, but in a funny way, it sorta braced me for dom/top/sub/bottom dynamics.

I must stress I was a child when I came up with this rubric. But I still think about it sometimes when the subject of dom and sub come up. And the word “fuckee” makes me laugh.

[–] Angel@hexbear.net 8 points 3 days ago

I used to use "penetrator" and "penetratee" to say "top" and "bottom" respectively.

[–] Infamousblt@hexbear.net 33 points 3 days ago (1 children)

The dumb thing is that its completely possible to be horny and have real conversations about being horny in the correct contexts without being a creep. But Reddit isn't interested in that they're just interested in awooga butt

[–] umbrella@lemmy.ml 24 points 3 days ago (5 children)

i don't understand this while porn is ubiquitous on the internet.

[–] Carl@hexbear.net 29 points 3 days ago (1 children)

It's a social ritual that weeds out those who will not tolerate a certain level of misogyny, and to teach those new to the community the level of misogyny that they're expected to adopt.

[–] GoodGuyWithACat@hexbear.net 16 points 3 days ago

Not to mention degrading women.

[–] Tabitha@hexbear.net 14 points 3 days ago (2 children)

I hate sex scenes in this movie for this reason. If I WANTED to see that, there is an infinite supply of higher quality content, that's a billion times more likely to pander to whatever sick disgusting thing I'm jillinterested in that week, and it's probably free. In fact, sometimes I'm posting bait of my interests on of and guys pay to DM me, usually ignoring the bait and asking about random shit like feet/vore, but I still get paid.

But in the movie world you get the blandest shit possible and if you're lucky the most mature person watching with you is going "giggitygiggity" or w/e.

[–] Keld@hexbear.net 7 points 3 days ago (1 children)

Sex scenes exist for other reasons than being pornographic.

[–] Oppopity@lemmy.ml 3 points 3 days ago (2 children)

I don't think I've ever seen a sex scene and went "yes this is necessary for the plot".

[–] Keld@hexbear.net 7 points 3 days ago (2 children)

I mean that's already an odd way to look at it. Like when you watch a movie do you go "I'm sure they could have told this story without all those action scenes"? Sex scenes can tell us about characters and their relationship to one another, it can tell us how a character is feeling and it can be a great way to set the mood for a scene.

I do in fact do that.

Most action scenes, sex or violence, are pointless and convey nothing. It's really fucking frustrating, because it could, you could fit so much characterization so much perspective. And they just never fucking do.

[–] Oppopity@lemmy.ml 1 points 2 days ago (1 children)

There are absolutely action scenes where they're there because they should be. Especially if it's an action movie where the point is all the cool fighting scenes. John Wick would fucking suck if his dog got shot and then he went to a therapist.

If what I wanted was a sex scene then I'd watch porn.

'Lovecraft country', the one with the shape shifting couple.

Edit: after you watch that you will hate the way sex scenes are usually used so fucking much more.

Sex scenes are like action scenes: usually shallow pointless and totally devoid of meaning.

But they can be done well, can be part of the plot, can be beautiful and meaningful. American directors just usually don't bother.

[–] EatPotatoes@hexbear.net 11 points 3 days ago

It’s not the lack of porn. Porn means nothing to them now. It’s being able sexualise anyone and everyone at a whim.

[–] RedSturgeon@hexbear.net 12 points 3 days ago (1 children)

I think it has to do with the fact that we're all very alienated and don't see each other as human beings. So if someone gets in the habit of scrolling adult websites and commenting on bodies there's no reason why they wouldn't do it elsewhere. People have to find some kind of rituals to replace the bonding we've lost. I'm sure there's multiple reasons, but this one came to mind rn.

It's a power thing, a 'social order' thing. Like, do you remember how white Americans who agreed with everything he was doing got so fucking butthurt about Obama?

Never get tired of a reddit-logo bashing. No seriously. Never stop.

there's horny posting and then there's being a creep

[–] robot_dog_with_gun@hexbear.net 23 points 3 days ago

depends heavily on the sub. there are there are a bunch of fashion ones that ban you if you comment on any of the porn subs and all the decent hobby ones hand out bans for harassment.

[–] Keld@hexbear.net 24 points 3 days ago (1 children)

I think horny posting is fine tbh, the issue is when it's just the presence of a woman that triggers it. Like if someone here posted a real sexy dude being all sexy I could see myself saying "Hot".

But also this place horny posts a lot

[–] CthulhusIntern@hexbear.net 12 points 3 days ago

There's also a place for it. Like, in the NSFW subreddits, of course hornyposting is fine.

[–] BelieveRevolt@hexbear.net 18 points 3 days ago

There's a depressing number of people who are still stuck in the early 2000s ”there are no girls on the Internet” mentality where misogyny/objectification is the default response to any woman.

is this new? should i leave? lol

[–] marxisthayaca@hexbear.net 5 points 3 days ago (1 children)

this spaces straddles the fine line between joke hornyness and disgusting goonerism.

[–] eldavi@lemmy.ml 1 points 2 days ago

yet another reason to stay away from reddit

[–] Midnight_Pearl@hexbear.net 11 points 3 days ago

even more common than objectification of women on there is contempt of women; the vitriol when they see women outside of a sexual context is fucking insane.
