People in my social group (which is mostly just my sister and the family she married into, who lean pretty left) kept talking about today being "election day" to the point I thought EVERYONE was having an election today. But no, the NYC mayoral is just getting that much fucking coverage.

nyc is like a giant tv station broadcasting live 24-7. if something happens to the tv station, we all have to see it on every screen as though it's a completely unprecedented event that has never happened anywhere else and we must all swear to never forget it.

  • mayoral election day
  • hurricane makes landfall
  • snow storm shuts down streets
  • plane crashes into building
  • convenience store has an egg sandwich

and then they'll make 3 TV series and 14 movies where the "event" is the context for a major dramatic arc, so we all have to imagine how the snow storm or whatever affected the three marriages of the owner of Joey Baloney's Italiano Restorante & Tire Shop.

if 9-11 would have happened in chicago, there would have been like 6 memes, 2 jokes, and an FX-hulu show that is mostly about alcoholism, then they would have gone on with their lives.

FX-hulu show that is mostly about alcoholism

FX's 9/11 show was mostly about alcoholism

There are various local and state level elections happening across the country. I got a couple city councilors and school board members and some assorted city questions.

On this day, we are all walkin' here

Here there’s always something on the ballot, but on the odd years it’s almost all hyper local stuff.

People living in Louisville can't vote for NY mayor? seems pretty undemocratic, it'd be like if you told americans they didn't have a choice over who the Venezuelan head of state is; straight up islamo-marxism

The American people are not intellectual, so to speak

I like that nice I-talian man on my tv and I want to vote for him even though I live in Arizona.

holy shit is the governor for VA likely to change? The piece of shit republican fuckass has, to my understanding, essentially unilaterally prevented the legalization of recreational marijuana sales

*monkey's paw curls" congrats you have a CIA governor now

When I get off my shift at Langley, I'm heading over to write in Lee Carter. He's electable (and ginger!) if you vote for him!

Oh I'm sorry I thought this was a free country.
