She married JD Vance, so I'm gonna have to agree with him on this one.

[–] MagicShel@lemmy.zip 3 points 2 weeks ago

No one should ever marry a woman with the poor taste to marry JD Vance—including JD Vance!

[–] tornavish@lemmy.cafe 22 points 2 weeks ago (3 children)

Seriously, how can she touch him?

[–] phutatorius@lemmy.zip 12 points 2 weeks ago

What makes you think that she does?

[–] Bronzebeard@lemmy.zip 6 points 2 weeks ago (2 children)

Why do you assume she's not in on all of this rhetoric bullshit attempt to appeal to the same part of the base who hate him because of who he married?

[–] Soup@lemmy.world 2 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

To what end? She’s not old enough that such levels of racism and violence won’t end in her getting wrecked down the line.

[–] Bronzebeard@lemmy.zip 2 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

There's some minorities that think that being against other minorities, themselves, gets them a pass. Member of the Leopards Eating Faces party

[–] shawn1122@sh.itjust.works 1 points 2 weeks ago

That's because historically it has given them a pass. The colonial era has countless examples of this. Gandhi was "one of the good ones" so the British were constantly trying to convert him to Christianity. He was quite racist while he was being educated as a young barrister in South Africa, adopting the Western worldview that white people were civilized and black people were animal-like.

His views evolved over time and he became overtly anti-racist as he grew older. But associating himself with whiteness played a significant role in the opportunities he had in life and is part of why he was able to have so much influence later on.

Martin Luther King Jr. stayed in Gandhi's bedroom during his visit to India in 1959. He wanted to connect deeply with Gandhi's legacy and principles of non-violence, feeling a spiritual connection in the space where Gandhi had once lived and worked.

If Gandhi had converted to Christianity, he wouldn't have been one of the most effectual civil rights activists of our time and one of MLK's major inspirations would have been lost, which likely would have impacted civil rights in the US.

So while I see what you're saying, I'm not surprised that people think this approach will give them a leg up. It speaks to deeper issues in the world that have yet to be addressed.

[–] phutatorius@lemmy.zip 1 points 1 week ago

Yeah, a tearful phony conversion is definitely one possible outcome of this.

Probably like Melania is as much a narcissist as Trump, Usha is as much sociopath as JD Vance.
The really weird thing is how JD Vance imagines he would ever go to heaven?

[–] thfi@discuss.tchncs.de 15 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

I have it on my Bingo card that he will dump her in the post-Trump power struggle in order to improve his standing with the MAGA base. Maybe pick Erika Kirk instead. That would be a MAGA dream team …

[–] FuglyDuck@lemmy.world 3 points 2 weeks ago

Id say so. (goes to straight to the bit that's relevant. No need to gross yourself out any more than necessary.)(this from the last day or so.)

(excuse me while I bleach out my eyes.)

[–] modern_drift@lemmy.world 15 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

Are people surprised by this? Christians think anyone that knows if jesus but doesn't believe is going to hell.

But what about JD not listening to the Bible?

A Christian considering marriage has some clear guidance in 2 Corinthians 6:14, which says, “Do not be yoked together with unbelievers. For what partnership has righteousness with lawlessness? Or what fellowship has light with darkness?”

[–] meco03211@lemmy.world 4 points 2 weeks ago

Good ole Two Corinthians.

[–] kandoh@reddthat.com 13 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

In far-right group chats and forums, they adore Vance — but they can’t stand that he’s married to a brown woman.

Vance is deeply online; he’s fully aware that his family stands in the way of his dream to become MAGA’s chosen heir.

This is the same man who once called Trump an “American Hitler,” only to later accept the role of his vice president.

To me, this statement makes one thing clear: he’s setting the stage to divorce his wife and abandon his children, all under the convenient guise of religious conviction.

[–] MagicShel@lemmy.zip 2 points 2 weeks ago

Maybe.... but if they divorce does that mean she can be compelled to testify against him in eventual criminal proceedings? That might be a road he can't go down.

You're right, JD, your true wife awaits you in heaven.

a couch made of clouds in a heavenly sky

[–] Bebopalouie@lemmy.ca 6 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

He is just laying the groundwork to get rid of current wife and start bonking Kirk’s wife. I give it 2 months.

[–] YiddishMcSquidish@lemmy.today 2 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

Recently saw a before the election and current pictures of them side by side. They both looked like they've been through 15 years these past few months.

[–] Bebopalouie@lemmy.ca 1 points 2 weeks ago

Yup, the hate takes its toll.

[–] GuyFawkes@midwest.social 6 points 2 weeks ago

Oh he thinks SHE is the bad one in the relationship? Anyone want to tell him?

[–] A_norny_mousse@feddit.org 6 points 2 weeks ago* (last edited 2 weeks ago)

Once again a MAGAt tries to make the distinction between legal and illegal immigration (claiming his wife is one of the good ones). Ignoring the fact that the US immigration system is designed to make that distinction extremely vague (to get cheap laborers without rights). While their rhetoric always, always makes it sound like "immigrant" and "illegal" are synonyms. And ICE does not seem to make that distinction either.

[–] DarkFuture@lemmy.world 6 points 2 weeks ago* (last edited 2 weeks ago) (1 children)

Calling it.

Before his run for presidency he'll end up with Neck Hole's widow to try to increase his chances.

[–] HobbitFoot@thelemmy.club 2 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

Why do you think she wore leather pants to see him?

[–] PalmTreeIsBestTree@lemmy.world 2 points 2 weeks ago

He grabbed her ass

[–] FuglyDuck@lemmy.world 6 points 2 weeks ago* (last edited 2 weeks ago) (1 children)

[–] xc2215x@lemmy.world 2 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

He wants her to be Christian.

[–] RaoulDuke@leminal.space 3 points 2 weeks ago

He wants her to be a cushion.

[–] SlartyBartFast@sh.itjust.works 2 points 2 weeks ago

Like, for a vacation? Where's Hell? Is it warm? There's a hurricane causing some splashes at some warm places right now, so best to read the travel advisories first

[–] phutatorius@lemmy.zip 1 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago)

Vance is probably an atheist just like his wife. The "conversion" was a cynical performative move to appease the Christian whackjobs. And he was tone-deaf enough to become a Catholic. The fundies are temporary allies, but historically, they're more comfortable burning Catholics alive then befriending them.

And Vance is so arrogant that, soon after his conversion, he was lecturing the Pope on empathy. What a fucking skidmark. The Pope was so impressed that he died rather than having to deal with Vance again.

What this all tells me is that Vance is completely motivated by lust for power, and has no ideology that he actually believes. He'll say or do anything. If Trump drops dead, I wouldn't put it past him to pose as a great reformer. It doesn't matter to Vance where the bus is going, as long as he's the one driving.

[–] HubertManne@piefed.social 1 points 2 weeks ago

No worries vance. Ill take good care of her.
