Best I can do is Higurashi Mitten Hands

[–] Erika3sis@hexbear.net 10 points 1 week ago

There are times when I think I'm bad at drawing hands. Now is not one of those times.

Ninja Turtle ass hands

Nice oven mitts, toots.

Anime artists will render every toe like it’s a masterpiece but give their characters Play-Doh hands. Imagine if that dedication went into hands for once

Verily, the hand fetishists yearn so for the Day of Revolution, when they shall finally seize dictatorship over the means of anime waifu production from those accursèd tyrants, the foot fetishists. 'Tis known, 'tis known!

Yoshikage Kira.

Okay, feet aside, I've never watched any serious 3D modeling, so I found it absolutely mesmerizing to watch basic geometric shapes be sculpted into recognizable human anatomy. Seems almost like magic.

I sincerely fucking hate how normalised this kink is.

[–] KobaCumTribute@hexbear.net 5 points 1 week ago (2 children)

I think the worst part is how it's so "tame" that it emboldens men to try to smuggle it in everywhere they can or to just sort of stiffen up and start breathing awkwardly and being weird in public about something so mundane in a plausibly deniable way. Also the way the usual level of entitlement and sexual harassment seems to get amplified by how comparatively "safe" it is (in terms of perception), so while every chauvinist creep asking for feet pics on social media would no doubt do worse if he thought he could get away with it the fact that he can get away with just sexually harassing women about their feet means he's emboldened to do so even if he's too risk-averse to go further.

I think the worst part is [...] men

fixed

[–] KobaCumTribute@hexbear.net 2 points 1 week ago

I mean yeah, that's pretty much what it boils down to. Just chauvinism and horny entitlement intersecting with something mundane and non-sexual in a way that brings out more of the sort of general shittiness that a lot of men conceal only because of risk aversion or social pressure.

YES exactly why it pisses me off much more than other things.

I think I have mixed feelings about artists "subtly" incorporating their fetishes into their work, or just generally about the fetish-smuggling that people often do, whether it be feet or anything else. Because if fetish-smuggling wasn't used as a "shorthand" for men's objectification of and entitlement to women's bodies, then I reckon people would still continue to smuggle their fetishes into their creative works, right? It's just that without misogyny, fetish-smuggling would instead really only be a matter of the boundaries of not bringing other people into one's kink without consent, versus the fact that one cannot actually fully separate one's sexuality from the rest of one's life. My own experience tells me that I personally have a pretty high tolerance for what I call "moshikashite" moments; and my tolerance would probably be even higher if misogyny were a complete non-factor.

…Yet as long as misogynistic culture prevails, it will naturally remain very hard to take its signifiers as anything other than their signifieds, right?

I just don't want to be pulled out of immersion in a story by someone's kink or desire to make women uncomfortable. By all means put kink in that is just blatantly kink in the places where blatant kink might suit the setting or story but when it's in other places it actually ruins media for me.

[–] booty@hexbear.net 6 points 1 week ago (1 children)

That is a good point, and it extends beyond kink to just any sexualization for me. Like, show ass, legs, tits, cocks, whatever if you want to and if you feel it is relevant to the story you want to tell / the feelings you want to evoke. But where it gets gross is when there's just a normal completely non-sexualized story being told, but the cameraman is horny and looking up someone's skirt or focusing on an ass or whatever. If your character is horny and staring at someone's ass, sure, whatever. If the camera itself is horny it just makes me feel like I'm a creep staring at someone's ass in an inappropriate situation. They turn the viewer into a creep in a sense, put the viewer into a creep's shoes. Rather than having sex/arousal be within the world itself.

So common in anime too

[–] Erika3sis@hexbear.net 4 points 1 week ago (1 children)

I wonder if open culture could solve this problem to some extent, because at this point it's mostly just about different preferences, right? That is, I'm fine with fetishes in media because I often take stories as expressions of their creators, how they feel, what they believe, what inspires them, or whatever, and that is going to include their sexualities; on the other hand, you don't like fetishes in media because you find it distracting and immersion-breaking, especially when it feels like it's meant to make half the world feel uncomfortable.

Neither of these are a strictly wrong approach to media, but if stories could be freely changed and adapted, then there could be versions best suited for one approach or the other, right?

[–] Awoo@hexbear.net 2 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago) (1 children)

I take the media as an expression of its creator and don't like the media because of this particular type of expression of its creators. If you put the foot kink in a strip club or scene where its appropriate or as part of characterising someone who is clearly a sexpest then I'm actually not going to have any problem with it. But the elements where it's just slyly in there because the creator themself is a sexpest are the media equivalent of being catcalled or groped in a club to me, I want it to fuck off.

I think in one implementation the only judgement I can make is that the creators are gooning sexpests whereas in the other implementation due to it being context appropriate I don't have to negatively judge the creator.

[–] Erika3sis@hexbear.net 5 points 1 week ago

I don't disagree, there are things I've dropped or refused to touch because the creator is obviously a sex pest, so I'm absolutely not arguing that people shouldn't feel put off by things that it makes complete sense to feel put off by. I have an unusually high personal tolerance for The Writer's Barely-Disguised Fetish but I don't judge others for having a lower tolerance. The only thing I'm actually trying to argue is that it is possible to put your own fetish in a story in a way that doesn't come across as sex-pest-y, but that those cases will remain very rare and obscure as long as society is controlled by sex pests.

[–] LeeeroooyJeeenkiiins@hexbear.net 3 points 1 week ago (1 children)

I sincerely fucking hate how normalised ~~this~~ kink is.

volcel-judge

[–] Awoo@hexbear.net 7 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Unironically yeah. It's offputting everywhere I see it. A scene will be framed a certain way that results in a specific shot lingering or showing a foot slightly longer than it needs to or in slightly higher detail than it needs to and every time I'm sucked out of whatever immersion I had and into "haha women are sex objects especially any parts of them that might make them uncomfortable".

[–] LeeeroooyJeeenkiiins@hexbear.net 2 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago)

No i mean all kink in anime, get it out of here. I'm sick of all the waifuism, god damn. I just want an isekai slop where the MC is OP without an obvious subcomponent of collecting women to fawn over him like they're Pokemon. Introduce a cute animal companion? Haha they're a little girl now, EVERY time

I'm really enjoying two shows this season because they're real low on that shit. This Gatherer's Adventure show he asks the reincarnation guy to give him a cute companion and he's all "oh, she'll be cute alright!" and he gets this little baby dragon and at least as of 4 episodes in they haven't rushed to turn her into an oversexualized little girl. She's just a dragon, she's cute, she smells like fish. Let her stay a damn dragon!

Something else i really like is he makes friends with a cool dragon guy and the guy asks him what the deal is with him and instead of "i have to keep everything a secret from everyone" which is a trope I'm so sick of he's like "okay, I trust you, i'll tell you" and i stood up and shouted FUCK YEAH. Trusting people! Give me more

A Wild Last Boss Appeared is also pretty good because it's like Overlord if instead of turning into a spooky skeleton he turns into a lady and instead of having 72 waifus she's the only waifu. CW: maybe better than some anime regarding gender since there seems to be an intentional trans element to the MC turning into a woman (they literally had a moment where they turned the friggin frogs gay (one turned female and they were just like huh)) but also they introduced a fem "boy" character who I think clearly identifies as female by her own speech and they constantly go "she's a boy though." It's really confusing because I don't know what the fuck message the author is trying to convey with the MC being a woman + the frog thing etc.

Idk I'm a cis dude who doesn't read books so I'm sure literally anyone here would have a better take on it and how good/bad it is with gender issues

Either way it hasn't been horny at all, at least up until episode 5 where they go to a hot spring and I was like, greaaaat, here we go, they always have to do this shit 🙄 and it was horny but only for like a minute and partially to explicitly establish that the MC is actually not horny at all so maybe they got it out of their system

men will literally spend their lives rendering every toe before going to fucking therapy

[–] GalaxyBrain@hexbear.net 4 points 1 week ago (1 children)

I take great pride in really being able to draw hands. I took a whole fucking reel of film camera of my own hand in almost every position and drilled that shit as a child (hence the film camera). Bare feet are way the fuck harder. Especially forward facing.

[–] RindoGang@lemmygrad.ml 3 points 1 week ago (1 children)

You’re doing the real work nobody appreciates, even if you don’t render it. I really dislike looking at anime girl hands in VR because they look more like weird deformations than actual hands (The avatar’s Castorite from HSR))

[–] GalaxyBrain@hexbear.net 2 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago)

The fuck is up with that thumb? Pinky is a bit too long and the index finger is shorter than the ring finger, those are usually the same size. The pinky ends at the last knuckle of the ring finger, index and ring finger end where the nail begins on the middle finger, if held straight under the thumb reaches the second knuckle of the index finger. The way the thumb side connects to the wrist is a fucking disaster. I have specific hand rules based on how real people's hands are usually cause you gotta make it look right when it's gripping things in various degrees of tight and how a loose and tight grip look a bit different and the size of the held object will change things.

I should get a tablet and have it paid for with a hands sample pack

i think you know why

[–] TheSpectreOfGay@hexbear.net 3 points 1 week ago

i do the opposite but im really into hands and not feet so ig that makes sense
