You hear them bang on and on about this cycle:

Bad times create strong men.
Strong men create good times.
Good times create weak men.
Weak men create bad times.

This is absolutely true, 100%

So the facists are right!

Too bad they confuse who the strong and weak men are...

Sorry for the rage bait title, I just wanted to joke a bit.

This is a photo of four bottles of champagne each dedicated to Trump, Putin, Musk and Orban respectively for when the world no longer has to deal with their miserable existance.

That's blatantly false, and extensively debunked by Brett Deveraux in a series of articles: https://acoup.blog/2020/01/17/collections-the-fremen-mirage-part-i-war-at-the-dawn-of-civilization/

Conservatives talk a lot about hard and soft men

Strong men make weak me moan :3 or something like that idk, tried making gay jokes but I'm bad at it.

Wait a minute... HARD MEN CREATE GOOD TIMES

At uni our US literature professor kept referring to that Flannery O'Connor book as "a hard man is good to find" and I found her hilarious for that

When I was in high school, the girls running team had shirts that said, "Fast girls have good times!"

Bad times create strong men. Strong men create good times. Good times create weak men. Weak men create bad times.

This garbage is derived from "The fourth turning" Strauss–Howe generational theory. Which can best be explained by H. L. Mencken

For every complex problem there is an answer that is clear, simple, and wrong.

Yeah, I can think of a few more as well

[–] Broadfern@lemmy.world 9 points 2 days ago (1 children)

Peter Thiel and Rupert Murdoch, amongst countless others

[–] stoy@lemmy.zip 2 points 2 days ago

Yep, I hardly ever drink, but I am perfectly willing to make exceptions for these dickheads.

It's absolutely insane that the boomers were so arrogant they never realized their favorite quote was shittalking about them.

Bad times create strong men, when they're wise and rightly guided, else they just traumatize people.

Strong men create good times, if you define strong as virtuous and not just "physically imposing" or even just emotionally resilient.

Good times create weak men, when "good" is defined as "hedonistic, consumeristic and with no ethical expectations".

And weak (morally wormy, stupid, etc) men do create bad times. 🤷

Hard times make men strong,
Strong men make good times,
Good times make men soft,
Soft men make me hard

Bad times leave resilient people an create broken people. A lot of people suffer from bad times, some people profit a lot from bad times.

Survivors of bad times don’t want to have bad times again, so they try to prevent them.

Better times make people forget how bad the bad times were and people who profited from the bad times try to recreate them. The longer ago the bad times are, the easier it gets for them.

I thought I was the only one doing this. I only have two bottles, though.

How long does champagne last before it goes stale or bad? Trump and Putin are pretty old so it probably won't take that long, but Musk might be a challenge.

[–] stoy@lemmy.zip 2 points 2 days ago

The larger bottles are bottles I got from work a few years ago, they probably suck, I may just get a Plantation Planetray gift box with small bottles of rum and use those instead...

It would look cool to have the bottles prepared in the giftbox with ribbons tied to them...

Yeah, I'll change over to that, and post a pic when I get the chance

it depends on how it's stored, and a lot of the problems will come from the cork rather than the wine.

I have a special bottle of cognac for Kissinger, but I was abroad for work when he returned whence he came so I didn’t get to enjoy the occasion. I haven’t opened it yet given how shit the situation everywhere is, but maybe celebrating small wins is vital even when important stuff is happening.
