Moderator Guidelines

  • Don’t be mean to users. Be gentle or neutral.
  • Most moderator actions which have a modlog message should include your username.
  • When in doubt about whether or not a user is problematic, send them a DM.
  • Don’t waste time debating/arguing with problematic users.
  • Assume the best, but don’t tolerate sealioning/just asking questions/concern trolling.
  • Ask another mod to take over cases you struggle with, if you get tired, or when things get personal.
  • Ask the other mods for advice when things get complicated.
  • Share everything you do in the mod matrix, both so several mods aren't unknowingly handling the same issues, but also so you can receive feedback on what you intend to do.
  • Don't rush mod actions. If a case doesn't need to be handled right away, consider taking a short break before getting to it. This is to say, cool down and make room for feedback.
  • Don’t perform too much moderation in the comments, except if you want a verdict to be public or to ask people to dial a convo down/stop. Single comment warnings are okay.
  • Send users concise DMs about verdicts about them, such as bans etc, except in cases where it is clear we don’t want them at all, such as obvious transphobes. No need to notify someone they haven’t been banned of course.
  • Explain to a user why their behavior is problematic and how it is distressing others rather than engage with whatever they are saying. Ask them to avoid this in the future and send them packing if they do not comply.
  • First warn users, then temp ban them, then finally perma ban them when they break the rules or act inappropriately. Skip steps if necessary.
  • Use neutral statements like “this statement can be considered transphobic” rather than “you are being transphobic”.
  • No large decisions or actions without community input (polls or meta posts f.ex.).
  • Large internal decisions (such as ousting a mod) might require a vote, needing more than 50% of the votes to pass. Also consider asking the community for feedback.
  • Remember you are a voluntary moderator. You don’t get paid. Take a break when you need one. Perhaps ask another moderator to step in if necessary.

I live off espresso, weed and nicotine, and then I wonder why I don't always feel good.

I did just buy some nicotine patches to try and quit the last one. Maybe fourth time's the charm?

I just hit a year, wont lie its pretty tough but it does get easier. Just keep trying until you can kick it.

I managed a bit over 2 months without smoking once, I did cold turkey. Got hooked again after a stressful night in the ER where another patient waiting offered me a smoke.

Thanks for the encouragement! EDIT: And congrats on a year!

My wife was in the same boat as you, but then she found out she was pregnant and that worked for her. Hopefully she stays off it when the baby’s born.

Looks like you need to get pregnant.

[–] Cethin@lemmy.zip 4 points 2 weeks ago* (last edited 2 weeks ago)

IIRC that's how my parents quit ages ago. I don't recall if they stopped when my mom got pregnant or when they started trying to get pregnant. Either way, my dad also quit out of solidarity/responsibility at the same time, both cold turkey. Probably having someone else there who can empathize and keep you accountable is a good way to do it. Maybe find a friend who wants to quit too and do it together?

My doctor looked at me like I was a lunatic when I said that I eat exclusively out of habit. It’s interesting to find others in a similar boat.

[–] Zorsith@lemmy.blahaj.zone 49 points 2 weeks ago

Far better than eating out of boredom :/

I eat because my colleagues look at me weird when it's the 5 th time I forget to eat in a week

[–] hildegarde@lemmy.blahaj.zone 43 points 2 weeks ago (2 children)
[–] EmptySlime@lemmy.blahaj.zone 15 points 2 weeks ago

That feel when you go too long without eating so when you do finally realize you're starving you eat way too much and feel miserable after.

[–] infinitesunrise@slrpnk.net 5 points 2 weeks ago

Psssh IMO the concept of time itself is far less natural than the ADHD it molests.

I didn't realize this was a thing until a couple of years ago. I thought I was just cold when it turns out it's just my body telling me I'm hungry

[–] Hobbes_Dent@lemmy.world 27 points 2 weeks ago

100%

Double-whammy’d my appetite with blowing up my liver and losing my smell.

The only draw to eat is:

- oh shit I’m shaking it’s been days

- weed

[–] greedytacothief@lemmy.dbzer0.com 23 points 2 weeks ago (7 children)

Damn I wish, I'm more like: Body: I'm hungry Brain: but I just ate a child sized burrito Body: don't care, want more Brain: yeah you're right, we should probably eat some more

[–] MotoAsh@lemmy.world 7 points 2 weeks ago (2 children)

Genuinely, what got me out of such feelings was to not eat for a day or two a few times (not in a row).

Learning the difference between real hunger and "stomach is just empty" made a BIG difference. I can basically ignore first-world hunger now without even trying. Also probably omeprasole helped, since a highly acidic stomach sucks and can turn normal hunger pains in to nasty heartburn that only certain foods can quench.

[–] RedSnt@feddit.dk 5 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

Yeah, once you get past the carb-hunger it gets easier.

[–] MotoAsh@lemmy.world 4 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

Oh! That reminds me... It's probably also worth getting used to exercizing in such a condition. Getting your body used to ketosis goes a long ways to not having a major low energy slump when the carbs/sugars run out.

Of course, that also requires maintaining at least a semi-healthy level of body fat so ketosis has something to work with. Being a twig and going hungry is just going to suck in general.

[–] jaybone@lemmy.zip 18 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

What time do you usually eat me

[–] TotallynotJessica@lemmy.blahaj.zone 14 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

when i gain hyena bite strength to crunch at the marrow

[–] Sidhean@lemmy.world 8 points 2 weeks ago

You're gonna gain hyena bite strength? Aww, I'm still gonna have to crush bones with a rock like a heckin' ape

[–] Beebabe@lemmy.world 15 points 2 weeks ago (4 children)

Used to be me. I grew up during heroine chic so it was intentional fasting. Gaining even a pound was unacceptable. That behavior stuck around even though nobody cares anymore. These days, I have rice cakes throughout the day, so I don’t get the shakes. And those little power bar gels.

When I was younger I had a really fast metabolism, so it was very hard for me to gain weight. People always told me I was lucky, but I would explain that it comes at a price. If I skipped a meal, I would get the shakes and start to get a headache.

[–] seliaste@lemmy.blahaj.zone 6 points 2 weeks ago* (last edited 2 weeks ago)

I hate it, I can't skip meals because it makes me feel terrible and I can't gain weight to look a bit chubby... I wish i could gain weight ffs

[–] bigbabybilly@lemmy.world 12 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

I lost 100lbs living like this. I even passed out once. Good times.

[–] infinitesunrise@slrpnk.net 6 points 2 weeks ago* (last edited 2 weeks ago) (1 children)

Holy crap, what weight did you start at?

[–] bigbabybilly@lemmy.world 22 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

Start? About 7lbs, 14 oz.

Ended up around 300 when I was 30. Then went back down to 200 at about 34.

[–] infinitesunrise@slrpnk.net 11 points 2 weeks ago* (last edited 2 weeks ago)

Lol cheeky. Seriously though, that's awesome and actually doesn't sound too unhealthy in the long run. Gratz on the healthier bod!

[–] Deflated0ne@lemmy.world 10 points 2 weeks ago (6 children)

Snake meal. One meal a day usually. Sometimes I skip it.

When on vacation with other people and kind of forced to have three meals per day, I quickly feel like I'm spending all of my time eating.

[–] djsoren19@lemmy.blahaj.zone 6 points 2 weeks ago

It was real wild to just kinda lose hunger, but it has done wonders for my dieting. It's real easy to lose weight when stuff like shakes are the only way my body tells me I haven't eaten.

I would be if the person I lived with did not constantly remind me to eat by cooking stuff that smells delicious.

I'm torn about it to be honest. I'd be way less fat and more attractive if I was left to "unhealthily" naturally skip meals. That said, home cooked food is tasty.
