Headline is incorrect, it's stripped everyone of their due process rights

[–] theneverfox@pawb.social 17 points 2 months ago

That is indeed how due process works

[–] Archangel1313@lemmy.ca 99 points 2 months ago

"The Supreme Court just nullified the 5th and 14th amendments, in illegal ruling."

FTFY.

If we’re waiting to revolt now would be a good time to stop waiting and just do.

Some leaders lead from the rear. I'm not saying that's what's happening here, but I admit I often worry about it whenever someone says "time to revolt" or similar.

Who CARES? The ONLY part of the Constitution that the Founders MEANT was the One that LETS US MURDER CHILDREN IN SCHOOL! EVERY other Amendment they COULDNT know what the Future held and would OBVIOUSLY Eliminate any Rights they Accidentally gave us! EXCEPT the Right to Shoot up Schools!

"justices in the majority did not explain why they decided this case the way they did." oh great. another precedent thrown out.

[–] Etterra@discuss.online 4 points 2 months ago (1 children)

This is the problem I've always had with precedent. It's not law. It's just "well these other judges did it this way so I guess I will too."

[–] HubertManne@piefed.social 5 points 2 months ago

well in this case they are throwing out the precedence of explaining their ruling.

[–] some_guy@lemmy.sdf.org 25 points 2 months ago (4 children)

Soon they’ll remove due process for citizens, too.

[–] Stovetop@lemmy.world 86 points 2 months ago* (last edited 2 months ago) (3 children)

There's effectively no difference. You can claim you're a citizen all you want, but if an ICE agent disagrees, you're not entitled to a hearing/trial to prove it.

[–] some_guy@lemmy.sdf.org 13 points 2 months ago

Astute reasoning.

[–] theneverfox@pawb.social 8 points 2 months ago (1 children)

Not effective... There is no difference

Doesn't matter if you're born here if they don't let you get your birth certificate

[–] HubertManne@piefed.social 8 points 2 months ago

you mean that fake birth certificate, ssn card, drivers license, and passport you showed them. they can spot fakes a mile away. off to renditionland.

[–] Inucune@lemmy.world 2 points 2 months ago

100% of Ice kidnappings are legal US citizens until proven otherwise in a court of law.

[–] boydster@sh.itjust.works 34 points 2 months ago

If there exists a class that does not have due process, then none of us truly have due process.

[–] forrgott@lemmy.sdf.org 21 points 2 months ago

If anybody is denied due process, everybody is denied due process.

[–] Goretantath@lemmy.world 18 points 2 months ago

This just did that, headline is misleading.

[–] Jake_Farm@sopuli.xyz 16 points 2 months ago

America has fallen

[–] kobra@lemmy.zip 6 points 2 months ago (1 children)

This is a temporary thing so any public outrage may actually sway a final decision made by the court?

[–] BlameTheAntifa@lemmy.world 8 points 2 months ago (2 children)

SCOTUS is currently a corrupt, illegitimate institution. There is no “swaying” them from their anti-democratic, anti-Constitutional agenda.

[–] kobra@lemmy.zip -2 points 2 months ago

Well with that attitude why waste time talking about it? There’s obviously nothing anyone can do.

[–] 98vesselsreptile@lemmy.zip 3 points 2 months ago

This is horrible
