Nostalgia usually doesn't work on me, but bringing back 1990s Jim Carrey to be in the Sonic movies is laser targeted at 10-year-old me and totally works.

[–] Artyom@lemm.ee 7 points 6 hours ago

Actors say this shit all the time, particularly when they know they're a critical character in the middle of an unfinished successful series. I wish I could just tell my boss I'm retiring then come back a week later just to do the work I was always planning on doing after my boss wrote a check for $10 million.

He did the same thing in Ace Ventura 2.

"i am now a child of light. Your earthly money holds no appeal to me."

"Twenty thousand dollars."

"Re-he-he-eally?!"

[–] kryptonianCodeMonkey@lemmy.world 9 points 12 hours ago

"Your request is not unlike your lower intestine: stinky and loaded with danger."

[–] SpruceBringsteen@lemmy.world 4 points 17 hours ago

Something has got to pay for his paint addiction

[–] aeronmelon@lemmy.world 42 points 1 day ago

Everybody comes back when you back a big enough truck full of money into their driveway.

At least Carrey is being picky about what he does. I wanted another season of Kidding, but I understand if he’s done playing dark roles.

[–] GissaMittJobb@lemmy.ml 74 points 1 day ago (4 children)

A damn shame that he's an anti-vaxxer. A damn shame.

[–] kadup@lemmy.world 21 points 22 hours ago (2 children)

Oh tell me your joking, this profoundly ruins he and every single one of his roles forever for me

[–] nelly_man@lemmy.world 15 points 16 hours ago (1 children)

I think it started around when he married Jenny McCarthy, who has long been a very vocal anti-vaxxer.

[–] rickyrigatoni@lemm.ee 15 points 13 hours ago (1 children)

How come everyone named mccarthy is a piece of shit

[–] BigBananaDealer@lemm.ee 1 points 5 hours ago

what jj mccarthy do?

[–] Skullgrid@lemmy.world 6 points 17 hours ago

he is an anti vaxxer. check the wiki or other comments

[–] Master@lemm.ee 13 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Not even the worst about him.

Maybe it's about from when he dated Jenny McCarthy (another anti vaxxer but she's down into this rabbit hole of misinformation a lot deeper including herself being prominent in spreading misinformation), I didn't know til recently Jim Carrey was an anti vaxxer, there's some other actors/actress (including Robert De Niro) I never expected to be one, what a shame. (I rarely check out news about celebreties so that might be why)

A list of some from BuzzFeed with sources included in their article, I tried archiving with archive.is and archive.ph but for some reason lately they just stay on infinitely "Loading" at least for me

[–] dickalan@lemmy.world 15 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Fuck me I probably wouldn’t have bought any of his movies if I knew that

[–] Rai@lemmy.dbzer0.com 1 points 13 hours ago (1 children)

I think I’ve bought two movies in my life

[–] dickalan@lemmy.world 2 points 10 hours ago

I’m a pirate but I also really love convenience so I have a collection of 225 that I can play just by saying their name to my Apple television

[–] 5714@lemmy.dbzer0.com 42 points 1 day ago (3 children)

I don't like the movies he's in, but I respect what he's doing - cinematic shitposting.

[–] prole@lemmy.blahaj.zone 1 points 11 minutes ago

I watched The Cable Guy for the first time a few months ago. It was great actually

[–] rabber@lemmy.ca 1 points 1 hour ago

Not even Eternal Sunshine?

[–] i_stole_ur_taco@lemmy.ca 12 points 1 day ago (1 children)

ONE OF US! ONE OF US!

Except vastly beloved and successful.

[–] Zelaf@sopuli.xyz 12 points 1 day ago

You're beloved too for being here with us. Thank you for your presence.

[–] Lumidaub@feddit.org 49 points 1 day ago (1 children)

He also obviously got to write his own lines. He insisted on either that or explicit Robotnik/Stone (true story source go do your own research).

I don't know about you but that seems a good reason to un-retire.

[–] yeather@lemmy.ca 2 points 10 hours ago

Bro wanted Improv or Yaoi, can’t blame a man for knowing what he wants.

It’s pretty on-brand for Jim Carrey though.

[–] Iheartcheese@lemmy.world 21 points 1 day ago (4 children)

As much as I loved him in the Sonic movies I really hope they don't bring him back for number four. He's died twice now but that second one was actually a really good death.

[–] Zanathos@lemmy.world 3 points 11 hours ago

He "dies" in all the games too. It's on brand for the series in my opinion.

[–] Talonflame@lemmy.cafe 1 points 8 hours ago

Yeah I really can't see how they could bring him back in a way that seems plausible. Really enjoyed Carrey's performance though

[–] hefejefe@lemm.ee 16 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Woh, spoilers!

Not that I was going to watch any of them, but now that I know he only dies twice and not thrice, I’m definitely not watching them.

[–] Iheartcheese@lemmy.world 7 points 1 day ago (1 children)
[–] Burninator05@lemmy.world 2 points 10 hours ago

They don't call him The Hedgehog for nothing.

[–] UrPartnerInCrime@sh.itjust.works 19 points 1 day ago (1 children)

I see where your coming from but robotnik is the BBEG. They always survive

[–] rickyrigatoni@lemm.ee 3 points 13 hours ago

Sonic without robotnik is always going to be the worst.

[–] ragebutt@lemmy.dbzer0.com 18 points 1 day ago

I misread the headline as “this section of jimmy carters Wikipedia article” and was so confused

[–] bizarroland@lemmy.world 12 points 1 day ago (1 children)

I wonder if you could go back to him when he got his start on that TV show with the Wayans brothers and told him that he would enter playing Dr. Robotnik in the Sonic movie what he would think.

[–] blargle@sh.itjust.works 16 points 1 day ago

Sonic 1 had just come out for the Genesis and was hugely popular while In Living Color was on TV- and that awful live action Mario Bros movie hadn't come out yet, so he probably would have been all for the idea.

[–] kurikai@lemmy.world 11 points 1 day ago

He seems to enjoy doing sonic. So good for him getting paid to do it
