Trump said: “We have thousands of stories talking about it,” then ordered his staff: “Turn the lights down and just put this on.”

Sitting next to Trump before the fireplace, Ramaphosa forced a smile and turned to look at a big TV screen as Trump’s South Africa-born billionaire ally Elon Musk, JD Vance, the defence secretary Pete Hegseth and diplomats and journalists from both countries looked on.

The video included footage of former South African president Jacob Zuma and firebrand opposition politician Julius Malema singing an apartheid-era struggle song called “Kill the Boer”, which means farmer or Afrikaner, as supporters danced.

Trump forced him to listen to the Kill the Boer song

I would not have anticipated that the decline of the American empire would be this embarrassing, but it's nice to have some unexpected laughs along the way.

[–] krolden@lemmy.ml 25 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago) (1 children)

Dont be embarrassed. Just remember these are not your people and they are so far removed from society that the shame only trickles down if you dont wear a hat

[–] Comrade_Mushroom@hexbear.net 18 points 1 day ago

Oh, I'm not embarrassed, lmao

In the video that Trump shows to Ramaphosa, it display footage of Witkruis Monument. Trump proclaims that this is a burial site of over 1000 murdered white farmers. This is not a burial site. The Witkruis Monument is a privately-owned memorial which displays painted white crosses to symbolically show farm murders. The Witkruis Monument refuses to commemorate murders of non-white farmers and has been photographed flying the old South African flag in support of apartheid.

Oh shit lol, just wanted to save this before it gets deleted or libified:

The number of crosses grew to 2,506 by 2020,[8] 2,575 in 2022,[9] and to just under 3,000 in 2023. One of them commemorates the well-known white supremacist and neo-Nazi, Eugène Terre'Blanche, who was murdered on his Ventersdorp farm by two of his employees after an altercation over unpaid wages. So clearly, he had it coming. Also, this article singled out this one evil person at this mass gravesite by shear coincidence. Don't read into it at all.

Actually, on further consideration, part of that comment may have been written by some reactionary

So clearly, he had it coming.

I mean... yes. For at least two reasons given in this comment, let alone whatever other vile shit this fucker was surely up to.

The Onion interviews President Ramaphosa's after the meeting and gets this juicy quote, "Gonna have to get an automatic rifle to deal with the 30~50 wild boers threatening our children in South Africa."

[–] CliffordBigRedDog@hexbear.net 24 points 1 day ago

Unironically thought this was c\fakenews for a sec

South Africa was the initiator of the Genocide case against Israel in the ICJ. Trump's Zionist strategist are going after South Africa, and it's so easy to rile up Trump's core base with this "white genocide" narrative.

[–] dead@hexbear.net 26 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Very good point. It would seem as though Trump is spreading the "white genocide" conspiracy theory to distract from the real genocide that Israel is doing in Gaza.

[–] AnarchoAnarchist@hexbear.net 6 points 1 day ago

Elon is filling his ear, his base loves the White Genocide talking point, it gives him "I like refugees" cred with "centrists", it distracts from and is revenge for Israel, it ticks a lot of Boxes for Trump.

[–] SkingradGuard@hexbear.net 1 points 1 day ago

and it's so easy to rile up Trump's core base with this "white genocide" narrative.

It's been a thing in fascist/conservative circles for at least a decade, claiming South Africa is killing whites. It's honestly surprising it's taken this long for Trump to publicly make it policy to support nazi Boer

The president of the united states is clip-chimping like some sort of drama youtuber. agony-turbo

[–] nothx@hexbear.net 9 points 1 day ago

I checked this post if fakenews community isn't spilling again. Three times in fact.

Like what the actual fuck

[–] krolden@lemmy.ml 22 points 1 day ago

I can't imagine being a diplomat in the room with trump and not just calling him a ficking moron and a complete joke to everyone on the planet.

Though I guess thats probably why I'm not a diplomat

I've never met a white South African in amerikkka who wasn't a huge racist.

Not exactly relevant to this thread, but whatever.

[–] ClassIsOver@hexbear.net 29 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago)

Man, Musk sure did put a bug in his ear about how racist they are for making his local subsidiaries of Starlink have partially black ownership.

[–] MarmiteLover123@hexbear.net 16 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago) (1 children)

It actually got worse than that, I did a live write up on the whole meeting. A South African billionaire was begging for some kind of one sided trade deal and for South Africa to copy paste the USA's immigrant and border security policy, and one of the South African golfers present thanked the USA for assisting the apartheid government in the border wars.

Thank you for contributing your analysis.

I don't like to post in the megathread. I'm not going to post in the megathread. In my opinion, posting every news article into one thread goes completely against the design of lemmy and link-aggregators in general. It's difficulty to read and navigate the megathread. It's impossible to view the megathread alongside other instances. On a link aggregator website, links should be posts and comments should be user discussion.

I post things that I think are interesting. I will admit that I did not write a full analysis of the meeting. I noticed that nobody had created a post about the meeting. I chose to center my post around Trump forcing the South African president to watch a twitter propaganda video because it was the most outlandish part of the meeting and I think unfortunately most people don't read a full analysis of a press meeting. The themes of "white genocide" and "kill the boer" also relate to the news stories from the past week where Elon's AI started spamming those same terms.

The post links to an article by The Guardian. The Guardian has a longer analysis of the meeting. The Guardian article mentions the South African Billionaire and the golfers. I also included a link to the full video for people who are interested.

I wish you would make posts of important things as posts instead of dumping comments into 1 thread. I can understand putting lesser known stories into a megathread. In my opinion, confining the top news stories of the day inside of the megathread makes Hexbear into a worse website.

[–] MarmiteLover123@hexbear.net 8 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago)

That's cool, I don't really care about "who posts first" or where they post or anything like that. I appreciate your posts, and it's always good to keep posting, especially posting outside of the megathreads so more people can see it and with added articles for context, that's very important.

I just felt like responding with a comment, was too lazy to type out a full comment of everything that happened, so I just posted a link to what I said previously. It's not about promoting the megathread or saying "I actually posted this first" or anything like that. Yeah the megathread format is annoying and I definitely understand why people don't use it. However, I mainly post in the megathread as it's the community that's been most accepting of the type of content that I've posted in the past.

Again, I don't particularly care about who posts what or at what time or where, and I apologise if it came across that way. Keep doing what you're doing as long as you enjoy it.

[–] Le_Wokisme@hexbear.net 15 points 1 day ago (1 children)

i hope Ramaphosa and everyone else in the room sang along enthusiastically.

[–] MarmiteLover123@hexbear.net 9 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago) (1 children)

The opposite happened in fact, everyone condemned it.

[–] Le_Wokisme@hexbear.net 6 points 1 day ago

didn't kill enough boers

[–] InevitableSwing@hexbear.net 29 points 1 day ago (1 children)

At Youtube I expected full-on racism in all the top comments. But I got a surprise.

I really don't get why the journalists are asking all these questions that have nothing to do with South africa while the entire south african delegation is there. Why waste their time? Just ask Trump the non-ZA questions, when only trump is giving a press conference. I don't get it.

That’s what diplomacy and class looks like. Thank you South Africa!

And a bit lower down

BRICS...getting even stronger 😂😂

[–] dead@hexbear.net 22 points 1 day ago

The comments probably varies by the youtube channel. The same video is being uploaded on all the right wing channels, fox news, oan, newsmax. Those channels have taken clips from the meeting and are framing it as the South Africa President denying white genocide. It's all over right wing twitter.

[–] Damarcusart@hexbear.net 9 points 1 day ago

I at least hope he showed him the asdf movie compilation after that.

This article and the linked video appear to show US President Trump showing South African President Cyril Ramaphosa proof of white genocide in his country. As far as I know, the video is authentic, and the Associated Press is a generally trustworthy source, but I cannot guarantee the article's authenticity, as The Guardian is also known for denying the theory of white genocide in South Africa, despite testimonies from white farmers claiming that there indeed is one. This move from President Trump is an important one, as the South African government is now unable to ignore the potential white genocide occurring on their soil. That it somehow did so until now is especially disappointing from a government which has lead the world in the judicial fight against the Zionist entity's genocide in Gaza.

We got the best groKKK, don't we folks?
