Donald Trump grumbled that he’s unable to “go after” the members of the House select committee that investigated the events surrounding the January 6 riots because of Joe Biden’s preemptive pardon, which the former president said he issued to prevent his successor from prosecuting them.

Besides raging about his inability to exact retribution on the lawmakers who probed the attempted insurrection and his role in inciting the rioters, Trump also patted himself on the back for pardoning most of those convicted of crimes related to the Capitol attack.

And people criticized this as paranoid and wrong when Biden did it…

Trump just blurts it out. No eyebrows even raised. Again, just imagine the outrage of Biden sat in that chair and said the same things.

If Obama did it, I'm positive we would have sitting congressional members calling for his execution for treason publicly.

[–] selkiesidhe@lemm.ee 45 points 4 days ago

I really hate having a fucking criminal in office. It's so disgusting.

Felon and rapist. Should be thrown in an El Salvador prison ffs

[–] futatorius@lemm.ee 78 points 5 days ago (1 children)

Next Trump will start using SovCit bullshit to claim that Biden had a flag with the wrong kind of fringe in his office when he signed the pardons, so the whole process was invalidated.

[–] AbidanYre@lemmy.world 81 points 5 days ago (1 children)

They already tried saying an autopen was used and that made the pardons invalid.

You actually think he reads the shit he “signs”? Never mind load the things into a complicated, precision machine?

Naw. Somebody “does it for him on his behalf”

[–] Ledericas@lemm.ee 6 points 4 days ago

actually all the EO were written by heritage foundation lawyers, because they knew trump wont read or question the EOs at all. his first term, they were frustated with him he took too long to implenent thier directives.

[–] billiam0202@lemmy.world 48 points 5 days ago (2 children)

Which is weird, given that he's already ignoring the Constitution with regards to due process, that he wouldn't just ignore it even more regarding pardons.

[–] pezhore@infosec.pub 12 points 4 days ago (1 children)

No see, this makes sense. If this administration is ever going to end, you know his last action will be pardoning everyone, and he doesn't want the precedent of pardons being ignored.

[–] billiam0202@lemmy.world 7 points 4 days ago

I don't disagree, but are they acting like they think they'll never be out of power again?

[–] Turret3857@infosec.pub 11 points 5 days ago (1 children)

I think its strategic. Similar to the poem "first they came for X, and I did not speak because I was not X".

You deal with the lowest protected on the rung and move up. They dealt with non-citizens. Now they move to rural american citizens. He'll get to them if we give him enough time to.

[–] ShaggySnacks@lemmy.myserv.one 14 points 4 days ago

This is why rights have to apply to everyone. As soon as rights only apply to one group of people, no one has rights; they have privileges.

[–] JPAKx4@lemmy.blahaj.zone 59 points 5 days ago

As terrible as the pardon power is and how easily abused it is, Biden was right to do it. Man this country is fucked.

[–] Clinicallydepressedpoochie@lemmy.world 33 points 5 days ago (1 children)

Yep, the pardons were justified. We don't need any more proof.

[–] ZoopZeZoop@lemmy.world 4 points 4 days ago

He'll go after their loved ones to get at them. He's a moron, but not everyone in his sphere is. Plus, they have playbooks from other fascists to follow. They'll figure this tactic out.

[–] Chainweasel@lemmy.world 40 points 5 days ago (1 children)

They're all about to "accidently" get swept up in an ICE raid and end up on a plane to El Salvador in the middle of the night.

[–] CosmicTurtle0@lemmy.dbzer0.com 14 points 5 days ago (2 children)

The fact that he is saying that he can't "go after" them is probably a good thing until someone reminds him that he's literally king and can do whatever he wants.

[–] Lasherz12@lemmy.world 8 points 5 days ago (2 children)

That person is Stephen Miller. The way he talks is as if Trump has no limitations at all on anything, and Trump behind him looks as if Stephen calls all the shots.

[–] smeenz@lemmy.nz 8 points 5 days ago

Quite a leap to describe Stephen Miller as being a person

[–] Captainvaqina@sh.itjust.works 2 points 5 days ago

Yep. Mr. microdick nazi needs to go to the afterspace he and Russel Vought deserve. Along with the entire cast of traitors.

[–] michel@lemmy.ml 5 points 5 days ago

“Will no one rid me of this turbulent priest?” comes to mind

[–] JeeBaiChow@lemmy.world 22 points 5 days ago

Who's weaponizing the DOJ again?

[–] Nougat@fedia.io 21 points 5 days ago

Which means they're going to "go after them" anyway.

[–] krigo666@lemmy.world 17 points 5 days ago

Orange turd.

[–] SulaymanF@lemmy.world 11 points 5 days ago (2 children)

He’s such a whiner. This is people’s idea of strength?

[–] 100_kg_90_de_belin@feddit.it 3 points 4 days ago

Trump is a weak person's idea of a strong man.

[–] D_C@lemm.ee 4 points 5 days ago

This is a feeble minded, brain-dead, idiots idea of strength.

[–] Freshparsnip@lemm.ee 11 points 5 days ago

Surprised he doesn't do it anyway

[–] brygphilomena@lemmy.dbzer0.com 10 points 5 days ago

We have a lot of corrupt people in our government.

  • Donald Trump

Did he look in the mirror?

[–] Stern@lemmy.world 5 points 4 days ago

Seethe and loathe

[–] JeeBaiChow@lemmy.world 5 points 5 days ago

He's so gonna pardon his kids and cronies.

If you look at the symptoms of Narcissistic Personality Disorder...

[–] Bluefalcon@discuss.tchncs.de 1 points 5 days ago (1 children)

He's so proud that he pardoned this guy.
