The whole phenomenon of Internet dipshits rubbernecking at Chris-Chan's life is one of the most depressing things in the history of online culture. There are probably kids into this pointless spectacle today who were born after the "saga" (fuck off) started.

Bullying a mentally ill person who clearly needs help they arent getting, and making it a le epic meme. Nothing better crystallizes the cruelty of the internet spectacle

Fear of gangstalking is really understandable when you know Chris Chan and what she went through exist.

like, chris chan is fucked, but it really is insane how much time and effort and brainspace trans people take up in these peoples heads. we're like .7% of the population if we're being generous, only a fraction of that are visible, and look at all the legislation and vitriol targeted against us

I don't want to defend the Chris Chan harassers, but mocking Sonichu and general online bullying of Chris was a thing years before she came out as trans.

Of course, her coming out as trans threw a bunch of gas on the fire because the people cyber bullying an autistic person also turned out to be transphobes :shocked-pikachu:

Yeah, she wasn't out for the majority of her "popularity".

Internet dwellers have a long history of hating anyone who deviates from whatever they deem to be normal, see furries for the ur-example

[–] Tankiedesantski@hexbear.net 1 points 3 years ago

It's basically the same social dynamic as schoolyard bullying.

[–] corgiwithalaptop@hexbear.net 1 points 3 years ago (1 children)

I just called out an old friend yesterday for his hatred of the furry community. Luckily he is reasonable, and when I said "it sounds like you're misunderstanding the community at large" they acquiesced and admitted that they most likely are.

It's just such a pointless thing to get mad about, like hating Justin Bieber or something.

There's like a million gory flash animations on Youtube that are essentially just "what if the heckin' Space Marines did an Exterminatus on the furries"

Real 13-year-old mindset

[–] corgiwithalaptop@hexbear.net 1 points 3 years ago

His reasoning was "its gross to be sexually attracted to animals" and im just like "my brother in christ that is really not what its about here"

There are people who changed history whose lives aren't as documented as hers...

[–] aaaaaaadjsf@hexbear.net 0 points 3 years ago (1 children)

Don't know who Chris Chan is and have no plans on doing so

[–] MiraculousMM@hexbear.net 1 points 3 years ago (1 children)

I am immensely jealous of you

I prescribe everyone that knows anything about this story a copious amount of grass touching ™.

Seriously I'm terminally online and even I don't know anything about this.

[–] Sickos@hexbear.net 0 points 3 years ago (3 children)

I am very blessed to have no idea what this means, and I thought I was terminally online.

Chris chan has been around for almost 20 years and likely has a cornucopia of mental conditions which the people who ruin her life as a personal hobby enjoy preying on. She's "really" into Sonic and has written extensive fan fictions about her own characters, and through various bad actors feeding into her grand delusions convinced her these characters existed in another dimension.

[–] doublepepperoni@hexbear.net 0 points 3 years ago (1 children)

The whole thing also spawned an entire subculture of sociopaths looking for new "cringe" people to harrass

[–] Steve2@hexbear.net 1 points 3 years ago

That's where kiwifarms comes out of of anyone's curious.

Behind the Bastards goes into her history a bit in the "internet is a bastard" episode.

Was the last BtB episode I listened to, seems like half of the airtime on any of Evan's podcasts is spent complaining about tankies anymore.

His spinoff "It Could Happen Here" that's largely hosted by a couple other people now regularly complain about tankies to the point I felt like I was just listening to posts from r/VaushV or r/tankiejerk.

[–] StellarTabi@hexbear.net 1 points 3 years ago

It's kind of annoying to actually live in a world where tankies don't exist, politically speaking, but 99% of the ranty-complainyness targets them. I guess I should pass on that series then.
