Welcome to the News community!

Rules:

1. Be civil

Attack the argument, not the person. No racism/sexism/bigotry. Good faith argumentation only. This includes accusing another user of being a bot or paid actor. Trolling is uncivil and is grounds for removal and/or a community ban. Do not respond to rule-breaking content; report it and move on.

2. All posts should contain a source (url) that is as reliable and unbiased as possible and must only contain one link.

Obvious biased sources will be removed at the mods’ discretion. Supporting links can be added in comments or posted separately but not to the post body. Sources may be checked for reliability using Wikipedia, MBFC, AdFontes, GroundNews, etc.

3. No bots, spam or self-promotion.

Only approved bots, which follow the guidelines for bots set by the instance, are allowed.

4. Post titles should be the same as the article used as source. Clickbait titles may be removed.

Posts which titles don’t match the source may be removed. If the site changed their headline, we may ask you to update the post title. Clickbait titles use hyperbolic language and do not accurately describe the article content. When necessary, post titles may be edited, clearly marked with [brackets], but may never be used to editorialize or comment on the content.

5. Only recent news is allowed.

Posts must be news from the most recent 30 days.

6. All posts must be news articles.

No opinion pieces, Listicles, editorials, videos, blogs, press releases, or celebrity gossip will be allowed. All posts will be judged on a case-by-case basis. Mods may use discretion to pre-approve videos or press releases from highly credible sources that provide unique, newsworthy content not available or possible in another format.

7. No duplicate posts.

If an article has already been posted, it will be removed. Different articles reporting on the same subject are permitted. If the post that matches your post is very old, we refer you to rule 5.

8. Misinformation is prohibited.

Misinformation / propaganda is strictly prohibited. Any comment or post containing or linking to misinformation will be removed. If you feel that your post has been removed in error, credible sources must be provided.

9. No link shorteners or news aggregators.

All posts must link to original article sources. You may include archival links in the post description. News aggregators such as Yahoo, Google, Hacker News, etc. should be avoided in favor of the original source link. Newswire services such as AP, Reuters, or AFP, are frequently republished and may be shared from other credible sources.

10. Don't copy entire article in your post body

For copyright reasons, you are not allowed to copy an entire article into your post body. This is an instance wide rule, that is strictly enforced in this community.

Summary

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy hit back at Donald Trump’s accusation that Ukraine started its war with Russia, saying that Trump is trapped in a “disinformation bubble” and adding that his country was not for sale.

He rejected Trump’s claim that Kyiv could have avoided the war and defended U.S. aid.

Referring to U.S. support—$67 billion in weapons and $31.5 billion in budgetary aid—Zelenskyy dismissed demands for $500 billion in minerals as “not a serious conversation.”

Moscow welcomed Trump’s remarks, further fueling concerns about his foreign policy approach.

Zelensky has been very careful not to burn the Trump bridge prematurely, but Trump's Russia misinformation comments seem to have turned the tide.

Trump was just baiting and waiting, and this response unfortunately likely took the bait (though who can blame him, it's all true). So I think this is the turning point and will give Trump an excuse to lash out by revoking aid, and jointly propose a "peace" treaty with Russia that gives Russia substantial parts of Ukraine.

I think this only makes a few weeks difference to the withdrawal of US military support. The deal Trump and Russia are putting together should not be thought of as an attempt to end the war, but the creation of a pretense for the withdrawal of support. The terms that will be offered to Ukraine will be completely, and intentionally, unacceptable to Ukraine and Europe. Ukraine will refuse and the US will name it as the justification for walking away.

The EU just came up with $730 billion in war funding. Sidelining them (including Ukraine) was a huge fucking mistake by the fascists and I'm here for it.

Shouldn't Congress have some say in this? Has anyone queried Trump's taint to ask them?

Saying Trump is trapped in the disinformation bubble is like saying a bee got trapped in the hive.

[–] AbouBenAdhem@lemmy.world 12 points 1 year ago

Trump is the queen bee, but Putin is the beekeeper.

[–] credo@lemmy.world 2 points 1 year ago

This bee is trapped in different hive, trying to figure out their production secrets.

Hey, he’s also trapped in American disinformation and misinformation bubbles too. Also, he’s extremely stupid so he’ll never realize he’s wrong and too narcissistic to ever admit he’s wrong, so we’re all screwed.

He didn't get trapped or tricked. He knows what he is doing, he is a traitor that is caving to blackmail.

[–] Llewellyn@lemm.ee 8 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Is he vulnerable to any possible blackmail at this point? I think it's safe to assume he is just really fond of Putin and his ruling style.

[–] Cort@lemmy.world 3 points 1 year ago

I mean It kinda depends on what Putin has on him. If it's a tape of him molesting Ivanka or Tiffany, or even one of his sons, he'd probably want to keep that hidden forever, even after he attains dictator for life status.

It's probably one of the few things that could actually take him down.

It seems you're dispelling some notion ... 🤔 What does Secretary Rubio think about it?

[–] sunbrrnslapper@lemmy.world 28 points 1 year ago

That's a weird way to pronounce foreign agent.

“I don’t like Trump’s flirting with Putin," said 49-year-old Fedir Logvynenko. "I don’t quite understand whether it’s from great intelligence or from complete incompetence."

Hate to break it to you, but it's pretty obviously the latter.

[–] JasonDJ@lemmy.zip 5 points 1 year ago

Is that translated? Or, rather, does Fedir speak English?

I got a funny feeling that the translators in global media sound a hell of a lot more competent than Trump. And there's a hell of a lot gained in translation.

Another one of trumps great business deals - failed.

[–] FabledAepitaph@lemmy.world 20 points 1 year ago (1 children)

I believe most people who voted for Trump were in a Russian disinformation bubble.

[–] Jericho_Kane@lemmy.org 2 points 1 year ago

Never forget these maga heads with t-shirts that said: i'd rather be russian than a democrat. They don't give a shit, they want their team to win. It's a sport to them. If you have to inject 15 year olds with testosterone maybe win a college football game, hell yeah, better than losing
