I'm not planning on respecting any laws made by a felon and his gang.
Oh boy, who else is ready to do crimes?
Well if I’m a criminal, might as well commit some actual crimes.
In for a penny, in for a pound.
Give the racist asshats an inch and they will take a mile.
Yup. This is what right wingers and Christians do. I've often seen people try to claim that right wingers in the USA are different from the rest of the world and I've regularly heard the "not all Christians" line too.
But as someone from a country that used to have a system called 'apartheid', I can tell you that this is exactly what fucking right wing conservative Christians do when given half the chance (and when they don't have the chance, they cry about being discriminated against). Plus every single Christian asshole teacher and authority figure I had to deal with in high school and boarding school were exactly the types that would embrace and love authoritarianism.
Personally I am not shocked at all that these people are doing this. What I am shocked about is that so many fucking idiots actually believed these little fascists when they claimed to be pro free speech and freedom in general. And I cannot put into words the disappointment I feel that so much of gen Z fell for this bullshit. The kids are supposed to be where the hope for the future is. But these kids turned into a bunch of fucking little bootlickers that support the kind of people I've fought against since I was a kid.
When I was young there was a lot of counter culture going on rejecting the status quo. There were lots songs about our harsh reality and there were still prominent and popular figures who railed against the atrocities of the world. I was born poor enough to not buy into the rhetoric and disenfranchised enough to hate the privilege that I did have. Make no mistake though there are a lot of bootlickers my age though.
Genz didn't even have these influences. They had Joe Rogan and Andrew Tate. We collectively failed them and offered them nothing but worship of money and power. They are a product of that reality, the end result of no one ever fixing anything. Being Sandwiched between the Boomers who I despise and these younger generations truly sucks and makes me doubt for our future.
I learned how technology worked on a level most don't understand. I played with DOS, wrote my own software, and was there for the start of social media when it was about empowering the individual instead of control the masses. I left when I realized what it had become. Generations after me never had that perspective to see the truth and were manipulate into complacency.
I'm open to finding a way to adapt the ideas and concepts from 1984 into a format that would be digestible to modern audiences without seeming as dated as it is prescient.
Great book by the way and while not completely predictive of what we are facing some things are spot on. The whole opposite ministry thing is really prevalent with our current administration. Also Newspeak really nailed how our language is evolving.
Genz didn't even have these influences. They had Joe Rogan and Andrew Tate.
Definitely agreed with this point and I haven't completely lost hope yet that these kids will wake up and see what's going on. I'm 10x more willing to forgive and give more chances to gen Z that have grown up being brainwashed by garbage than I am as far as my own peers and older are concerned.
I'm starting to firmly believe that the biggest cause of all of this is enshittification. And I'm not just talking about Facebook but also the music, movies and games industries. In fact I recently made a post ranting about how Sonic the Hedgehog has been reduced from an anti-authoritarian icon to a fluffy teddy bear that's all about 'family' and top 40 pop and McDonald's references.
The grifters like Joe Rogan that showed up aren't the cause but rather a symptom of an entertainment industry that stopped producing art and started chasing lines on graphs that go up and down and giving us nothing but safe, middle of the road, lowest common denominator slop. So there was an opening for anything other than that slop. While I grew up with NOFX shouting about how the idiots are taking over, these kids grew up with fucking Jay Z and Kanye and whatever other fucking assholes singing about dancing in the club and walking around like living billboards for Ray Ban and Nike.
IMO, when the revolution comes, the people currently running things in the entertainment industry need to be amongst the first to see rope.
It just keeps getting more and more absurd.
I wonder how much further it can go before we get sucked into a black hole.
"Bondi is also making a push to deemphasize prosecutions of white-collar crimes, purge diversity programs within the DOJ, reintroduce the federal death penalty, and to root out lawyers who aren’t willing to march in lockstep with Trump ideologically."
Shitting biscuits.
"Deemphasize prosecution of white-collar crimes".
Alright so basically 2008 was a practice round and now we are really planning to make the worlds banks collapse in on their collective greed. Cool.
I know who we're eating first.
I keep trying to tell myself not to panic every time I think about draining out all my bank accounts. But at some point I should panic, right?
On the bright side, if it gets bad enough that you can't take your money out, chances are that it won't be worth very much for much longer.
The Racist South playing the long game
Years ago, there was a big write-up (cannot find it any more) on the idea of Northern Liberty vs. Southern Liberty, and it was totally spot-on.
Every American should read it because it really laid out the difference between the way cons with the Southern mindset spoke about "liberty" - in their use of this, liberty meant the right to RULE OVER OTHERS. Which is completely at odds with the normal/Northern interpretation.
When I used to link to this article and mention it on various forums, including DP's I'd get butthurt cons saying how unfair that characterization is/was. LOL.
Can't find anything but a neighborhood in Philly
For the racists, calling them racist is the real crime. If you want to see right wing dumbasses turn into total snowflakes, see how they behave when confronted on their racism...
The attorney general is congress now? Wait, let me laugh even harder.
She can try, but the Supreme Court gutted agencies' ability to interpret law.
That won't stop them from bringing lawsuits. That's where the real damage will be done. Companies will fear being sued so much that they will preemptively drop their DEI programs. This is all about creating a chilling effect through threats.
Google has already done that
I mean we all knew Google's new motto was "do evil" already, this isn't surprising.
They'd be using laws requiring equal treatment of protected classes most likely.
