I kinda got into dinosaurs as a kid. Today, there are so many different collections of dinosaurs in various encyclopedias. My favorite from the new books is Micropachycephalosauarus. Just the idea that a little dino, like tini little guy, was running around headbutting things cracks me up.

I hope it brings you joy to know that "dinosaur" kids are still memorizing these ever-growing lists. I work with kids, and the big dinosaur fan is still teaching me new dino things almost every day. We recently learned of a dinosaur that is basically another student's name +saurus. That was a cute discovery.

Do you think Jeff Bezos will push his Prime studio to make Homelander a hero now that he's an ultra right wing supporter?

[–] Randelung@lemmy.world 16 points 10 months ago

He's already the hero for the idiots. No need to change anything, it's already the perfect allegory - just that they're rooting for the villain.

He looks like a Compsognathus kinda guy.

(For the non-dino nerds Compsognathus means "pretty jaw".)

I'm a pachycephalosaurus guy myself.

Would have been slightly funnier and nerdier with the Dimetrodon IMHO.

My favorite is spinosaurus! The fact that it is fully aquatic is so interesting!

My favorite is the Gallus gallus domesticus.

[–] madjo@feddit.nl 4 points 10 months ago

But which came first, the gallus gallus domesticus or the ovum?

[–] Semjaza@lemmynsfw.com 4 points 10 months ago (1 children)

Is there a good reason why dinosaur is only terrestrial extinct reptiles (and a subset at that)?

Do we have a handy term that includes plesiasaur, pteradons and dactyls, as well as dinosaurs?

[–] Semjaza@lemmynsfw.com 5 points 10 months ago (1 children)

Disregarding fictionality, it also includes moths, at least one plant, and maybe arachnids (and controversially perhaps, an ape).

[–] LunarLoony@lemmy.sdf.org 4 points 10 months ago (1 children)

And robots. Don't forget the robots.

[–] lemonmelon@lemmy.spronkus.xyz 2 points 10 months ago

Also, smog.

[–] whotookkarl@lemmy.world 4 points 10 months ago

My favorite dinosaur is the flamingo
