god dammit I didn't expect it to be guessed this quickly

[–] eatham@aussie.zone 15 points 10 months ago (1 children)

Did they actually get it correct lol

[–] yetAnotherUser@discuss.tchncs.de 25 points 10 months ago* (last edited 10 months ago) (1 children)

Yup! It's the smallest (non VIP) torrent on there. Its only purpose (nowadays) is to change your ratio from NaN to a number in the hundreds of millions/billions. It's my only non-freeleech download.

[–] TachyonTele@lemm.ee 8 points 10 months ago (1 children)

So its 608 byts?
I was teying to figure out what large file size starts with a b, lol

[–] catloaf@lemm.ee 11 points 10 months ago (1 children)

Now I want to know what that is.

[–] TachyonTele@lemm.ee 8 points 10 months ago* (last edited 10 months ago) (1 children)

Sounds like it's (please correct me if im wrong) a very small file you can seed to get your ratio of download/upload into better numbers.

Imma guess its a text file with a cooking recipe?

[–] catloaf@lemm.ee 12 points 10 months ago (1 children)

Yes, it's the contents I want.

Well, if you insist...

Boston Chicken & KFC Rotisserie Style Chicken.txt

Boston Chicken & KFC Rotisserie Style Chicken

Serving Size : 4

1/4 c Oil
1 tb Honey
1 tb Lime juice
1/4 ts Paprika
Season salt
4 Chicken breast halves with skin

Mix all ingredients well in saucepan and warm just to
melt honey. Arrange 4 chicken breast halves, skin-side-up
in a square baking dish or pan, sprayed with Pam.
Bake uncovered at 400~ about 35 to 40 minutes, basting
chicken without turning them, 3 or 4 times during baking
 or until nicely browned.
Immediately upon removing from oven, seal baking dish
tightly in foil and let stand 15 to 20 minutes before
serving.

[–] catloaf@lemm.ee 5 points 10 months ago

That doesn't sound half bad. Maybe I'll try making it later, though usually I don't buy chicken with the skin on.

Apparently being on private trackers has significantly skewed my sense of what's normal sharing stats

opensignups on reddit and invitehawk

[–] TriflingToad@sh.itjust.works 6 points 10 months ago (2 children)

I don't understand the point of a private tracker tbh

[–] jerkface@lemmy.ca 4 points 10 months ago

You'll know when you need it. Until then, don't sweat it.

[–] OutlierBlue@lemmy.ca 3 points 10 months ago (1 children)

Me neither. I've never been a member on one, but I don't have too much trouble finding and downloading what I need.

[–] ober@lemmy.dbzer0.com 9 points 10 months ago (1 children)

For a lot of people, it's a community thing. I'm a member on Orpheus and they have a lot of great community stuff like Album of the Month, user made scripts, tutorials, forums, etc. They can also have a lot higher quality content and moderation because they're so "exclusive". And, for music, a private tracker is gonna be 100x better than a public one or Soulseek.

[–] ober@lemmy.dbzer0.com 1 points 10 months ago

Hoopla seems okay for people who listen to a lot of mainstream stuff. I've never actually heard about it before now or used it so everything I say is just coming straight out my ass, but, it seems their library is very limited. Orpheus has a very extensive library with almost everything on there having a lossless flac version. It's still nothing compared to Soulseek, but as long as you're into bands/artists with more than 5 listeners in their lifetime, you'll be able to find everything. It all just comes down to what you're looking for though.

[–] lightnsfw@reddthat.com 12 points 10 months ago

My private tracker ratios are shit. If it wasn't for the points systems they have for seeding I wouldn't be able to do anything on them. Every so often one will randomly take off but most of the time they get stuck around like .04 even on brand new uploads. Fortunately I can find pretty much everything on public tracker. My ratio on those is far better. For example I have Godzilla Minus One from both a private tracker and public. The public one is at like 45 and the private one is like .6 both were downloaded within a day or two of each other back when everyone was pirating that movie. I would be seeding so much more shit from my private trackers if I didn't have to worry about upload ratio.

[–] yetAnotherUser@discuss.tchncs.de 3 points 10 months ago* (last edited 10 months ago) (1 children)

In what way? My "real" torrents from private trackers have at most a ratio of 4.0, with most of them just slightly above 1.0 (and a bunch even below 1.0).

[–] AwesomeLowlander@sh.itjust.works 4 points 10 months ago

Nah, I wasn't being serious, just making with the funny

[–] andrew_bidlaw@sh.itjust.works 21 points 10 months ago (1 children)

I have no idea about what it can be, lol.

I've got my best uploads on niche stuff, like lesser known movies and albums because I've became almost the only seed on them. In a sense, I'm happy to share and see that such content has people interested in it. My opera uploads exceeded my porn uploads so here is that (:

By the way, due to defederation you can't see the comment with the solution.

My top two are two different encodings of Dominion, 1080p: 205:1 and 720p: 53.8:1, for a combined 634.2 GiB of upload data. I have been seeding for almost two years.

Please, take one. Watch it and consider how fortunate you are.

[–] v4ld1z@lemmy.zip 12 points 10 months ago (1 children)

Everyone not vegan should watch

[–] OmegaLemmy@discuss.online -5 points 10 months ago (1 children)

I did and it just made me even less considerate of vegans

People grieve in different ways.

[–] Dangy@lemmy.dbzer0.com 4 points 10 months ago

Thank you for your service.

[–] Railcar8095@lemm.ee 16 points 10 months ago

My highest ratio is 57 on Zelda echoes of wisdom ROM. But I have a second torrent for the same game with 15 ratio, because fuck Nintendo.

[–] TimewornTraveler@lemm.ee 12 points 10 months ago (1 children)

why do people torrent recipes? aren't they just free everywhere online

[–] yetAnotherUser@discuss.tchncs.de 13 points 10 months ago (1 children)
[–] TimewornTraveler@lemm.ee 5 points 10 months ago (1 children)

this doesn't answer the Why

[–] yetAnotherUser@discuss.tchncs.de 6 points 10 months ago

It's just to get an insane ratio on a private tracker. A ratio of 1 billion looks cool but is otherwise pointless. This recipe is the smallest torrent on that site, so downloading it creates the biggest possible ratio. Not downloading anything eould give you a ratio of NaN since [Upload] divided by 0 is NaN.

[–] TriflingToad@sh.itjust.works 10 points 10 months ago

my guess is the switch keys

[–] TrueStalinistPatriot@hexbear.net 8 points 10 months ago (1 children)
