The court was adjudicated by Mr Donald Potter QC, who found in favour of McVitie's and ruled that whilst Jaffa Cakes had characteristics of both cakes and biscuits, the product should be considered a cake and not a biscuit, meaning that VAT is not paid on Jaffa Cakes in the United Kingdom.[16][22][23]

In 2021, artificially intelligent binary classifiers "usually used in the field of astronomy" were trained on 92 traditional recipes of cakes and biscuits and determined Jaffa Cakes to be cakes.[25]

The slop machine and legal nerds says its a cake, thus its a biscuit.

It can't be a biscuit. Biscuits look like this:

[–] Aradina@lemmy.ml 18 points 1 month ago (2 children)

That is clearly a scone of some kind.

[–] pooh@hexbear.net 9 points 1 month ago (1 children)

Maybe it is a scone, but this is definitely a biscuit:

A terribly limp one

This is disrespecting my Appalachia heritage and I won't stand for it!

[–] pooh@hexbear.net 11 points 1 month ago* (last edited 1 month ago)

Hmmm... You're right. Actually, I think this is what a biscuit looks like:

[–] ItalianMessiah@hexbear.net 14 points 1 month ago (1 children)

Wrong, only American crackers think like that. True British crackers know it's actually like the picture above.

[–] Diuretic_Materialism@hexbear.net 15 points 1 month ago

only American crackers think like that

Oh yeah I much rather go with the British crackers, the OG racists.

I agree as a proud Appalachian

[–] Frank@hexbear.net 24 points 1 month ago (3 children)

I loath the dutch, but i loath the english more, so cookie it is.

[–] Bobson_Dugnutt@hexbear.net 11 points 1 month ago (1 children)

But "koekje" means "little cake," so maybe it's both? 🤔

[–] Frank@hexbear.net 13 points 1 month ago (3 children)

The dutch are sinister. And duplicitous. See how they live both bove and below the sea? It is a hint at their nature.

the need to categorize like thus is core to the angloid physiognomy

[–] ItalianMessiah@hexbear.net 7 points 1 month ago

Just like the Jelly is core to the Cake that is the Jaffa Cake. Thanks for agreeing with me Comrade.

[–] Owl@hexbear.net 15 points 1 month ago (3 children)

what if instead of jaffa cakes they were Jafar cakes and they were threatening to take over Agrabah

[–] FALGSConaut@hexbear.net 8 points 1 month ago (2 children)

🎵More often than not, are hotter than hot🎵

🎵But not Jafar Cakes🎵

[–] Bobson_Dugnutt@hexbear.net 6 points 1 month ago

The first time I heard an angloid talking about these weird cookies, I legit thought they were spelled "jaffer" because of their fucked up accent

~~If the only options are "cookie" and "biscuit" I'd say "cookie".~~

Title changed, I guess it's "cake". Biscuits in burgerland are different, I would probably say "slop" or honestly "mass produced confection" if somebody asked me out of the blue to classify this.

[–] ItalianMessiah@hexbear.net 13 points 1 month ago

Please remove your rude and unnecessary comment that says I got the title wrong. I never got the title wrong and anyone who says otherwise is jealous of my skateboarding skills.

I'm asking the mods to put it the log that I am NOT mad but I am still reporting this comment for misinformation.

[–] mathemachristian@hexbear.net 10 points 1 month ago

It's a very small and awful cake.

[–] Edamamebean@hexbear.net 10 points 1 month ago (1 children)

This is a cookie. Why would you call this a cake. It's not like you're gonna cut slices out of it.

[–] ItalianMessiah@hexbear.net 6 points 1 month ago

Is a small slice of cake a cookie because it's small?

Read theory nerd. Jaffa cake is a cake and you're a fraud in front of everyone.

[–] Eco@hexbear.net 8 points 1 month ago

cake. it's literally a sponge idk why this has ever been up for debate

[–] MaoTheLawn@hexbear.net 8 points 1 month ago (1 children)

but do you condemn the terror attacks in Jaffa?

Anyway it's a fucking cake obviously

[–] ItalianMessiah@hexbear.net 7 points 1 month ago

Of course, I hate everyone who attacks the primacy of the Jaffa cake in the processed snack world. We need a holy war against the kkkracka oreo cookie and its Masonic symbolism.

[–] ItalianMessiah@hexbear.net 6 points 1 month ago

Typical kkkracka middle of the road nonsense.

[–] DamarcusArt@lemmygrad.ml 5 points 1 month ago

It's a cake, it's in the name.

And if that isn't convincing enough, they go hard when stale, like cake. Biscuits go soft.

[–] Hexboare@hexbear.net 5 points 1 month ago (1 children)

The only acceptable "biscuit"

Everything else is anglo revisionism (except bikkies, you get a pass if you create a new word)
