In tried to watch Twisters (2024), but turned it off after 40 mins. That movie was not good and I don't know why it got the attention it did this year.

RULES (updated 01/22/25)
- Be respectful: no harassment, hate speech, bigotry, and/or trolling. To be concise, disrespect is defined by escalation.
- Encourage conversation in your OP. This means including heavily implicative subject matter when you can and also engaging in your thread when possible. You won't be punished for trying.
- Avoid controversial topics (politics or societal debates come to mind, though we are not saying not to talk about anything that resembles these). There's a guide in the protocol book offered as a mod model that can be used for that; it's vague until you realize it was made for things like the rule in question. At least four purple answers must apply to a "controversial" message for it to be allowed.
- Keep it clean and SFW: No illegal content or anything gross and inappropriate. A rule of thumb is if a recording of a conversation put on another platform would get someone a COPPA violation response, that exact exchange should be avoided when possible.
- No solicitation such as ads, promotional content, spam, surveys etc. The chart redirected to above applies to spam material as well, which is one of the reasons its wording is vague, as it applies to a few things. Again, a "spammy" message must be applicable to four purple answers before it's allowed.
- Respect privacy as well as truth: Don’t ask for or share any personal information or slander anyone. A rule of thumb is if something is enough info to go by that it "would be a copyright violation if the info was art" as another group put it, or that it alone can be used to narrow someone down to 150 physical humans (Dunbar's Number) or less, it's considered an excess breach of privacy. Slander is defined by intentional utilitarian misguidance at the expense (positive or negative) of a sentient entity. This often links back to or mixes with rule one, which implies, for example, that even something that is true can still amount to what slander is trying to achieve, and that will be looked down upon.

I'm currently on season 3 of Silicon Valley, and the first season of Initial D.
I'm loving Silicon Valley but boy Richard sure is incompetent sometimes huh? It's so frustrating sometimes but man does Mike Judge know how to satirize that entire industry and culture.
Initial D is also really good. A friend got me to watch it. I'm not even a car guy but it's making me want to play driving games.
Working my way through For All Mankind again. What a superb piece of TV that is. Magnificent. Also Slow Horses and lay night we started Bad Monkey. That's pretty good as well.
Got to give Apple credit, they do make some good stuff. The quality and attention to detail is superb, even if the show is naff. I was very excited to hear they were making Foundation, and the quality was outstanding. Never finished the first series, it was like watching paint dry. Likewise Silo. Dark Matter? I didn't even make it to the end of the first episode.
I quite liked Foundation although possibly because it's the first SciFi I remember reading so there is some nostalgia at play. They made some interesting decisions in the adaptation but the techno space opera does look nice. Lee Pace's emperor is the most interesting character of the show even if he is chewing the scenery a bit.
Started watching beserk greed of gluttony
Anime! The ~~winter~~ summer season just ended, and alongside it a few series that I was following:
- Nier: Automata 1.1 - surprisingly good for something based on a game.
- QA in Another World - it feels unfinished because it is. The manga goes further. I enjoyed the overall cheekiness, specially in comparison with Log Horizon (another good game isekai, but a bit too serious).
- Dungeon no Naka no Hito - I picked this series on a whim. It's... okay I guess?
- TenSura s3 - hey, s4 was already announced! It was good, but s1 was better.
- Failure Frame skill - another series that feels unfinished because the manga goes on. I hope that it gets a sequel.
- No Longer Allowed in Another World - ditto. Except that this one NEEDS ~~more Calmotin pills~~ to get a sequel.
- Shinmai Ossan Boukensha - eh. It was crap but I still watched it.
- Ookami to Koushinryou: Merchant Meets the Wise Wolf - it's a remake/update of a great series, so I already knew the story. It was still 100% worth watching it.
I also picked Mayonaka Punch to binge watch. I skipped this series because "meh, it talks about youtubers", but I was bored and I wanted to watch something and the above ended and... wait, it's actually fun? Main character is a piece of shit, but she's a rather entertaining one!
I started watching A Discovery of Witches on Netflix - it’s pretty good.
I also immediately started binging Gyeonsong Creature 2 on Netflix because I really loved the first season. I am loving this one too even though they surprised me with the era.
If anyone is interested in Cdrama, I just wrapped up the “Princess Royal” series. I really liked that one because the episodes were never boring due to pacing or lame side stories.
On season 5 of Grimm. We've been pretty dedicated, trying to watch two episodes per day, and I'm kinda ready for it to be done.
I watched a documentary about swapped twins in Colombia The Accidental Twins.
2 sets of identical twins born in 1988, one pair in rural La Paz and one pair in Bogota. One of the La Paz babies wasn't well and was sent to a hospital in the capital, where the mistake happened.
They grow up as fraternal twins, because they are not very much alike. 20+ years later they somehow run into each other through friends.
Imagine someone tells you "Hey, I met this guy who looks exactly like you" and you check out this guys social media and there are pictures of the guy, looking like you with another guy that looks exactly like your twin brother.
Seriously, such a wild story. Super interesting and heartbreaking at times.
My wife and I have been watching movies neither of us have seen. This week it has been:
- Moonstruck
- The Birdcage
- Call me by Your Name
- I Saw the TV Glow
Watched Challengers. Not sure if it went under the radar for mainstream audiences, but it was very good. Great soundtrack and cinematography.
Watching season 2 of The Old Man. Not as much of a fan so far as I was of season 1 but I'll judge it once the season's over.
Finished the Spice and Wolf (remake) and Shikanoko Nokonoko Koshitantan this week.
Chronologically LOST.
My wife and I have been trying to watch Rings of Power after the kids go to sleep. But we haven’t gotten too far yet.
