Trust me from first hand experience, you get over that REAL quick once you break down that wall.

I DO NOT recommend trying even once. 14 years and 5 days clean from H. All I do these days is shrooms and DMT.

Based and I’m-proud-of-you-for-overcoming-the-most-difficult-thing-pilled

Also, I have a friend who was horribly addicted to heroin for years, quit many times before quitting for good. Plot twist: she did not inject a single time

To people that aren’t who I’m replying to: maybe obvious but even without injecting, heroin (well, it’s all fent now) is horrifying.

[-] SorosFootSoldier@hexbear.net 25 points 2 months ago

You can smoke that shit but yeah heroin is a bad drug and you get addicted really fast and spend a lifetime coming off it with maintenance meds in some cases.

[-] Belly_Beanis@hexbear.net 22 points 2 months ago

All humans are born heroin addicts, some of us are just sober.

Honestly, as someone who’s had a history of depression and anxiety since highschool, it’s scary how the few times I’ve tried Oxycontin I’ve felt like a normal fucking person. I was having actual fun interacting with people, especially my friends, I was laughing, I was joking around. I felt like the person I remember being from way back when.

I had tried everything, anti-depressents, therapy through many different professionals, rec drugs such as weed, psychadelics, nothing came close to relieving my symptoms besides maybe alcohol which is totally inconsistent and a poisoned chalice and maybe gabapentin if I even remember it correctly.

I haven’t touched opiates since the few times I’ve tried it because I just know it will be the end of me.

[-] PaX@hexbear.net 14 points 2 months ago

yea

Real :(

I don't think we are born heroin addicts, the capitalist world we live in makes people sick, physically and mentally, and substances are a quick, temporary, relief from it

I want to believe if we got isekaied into communism we could be happy again

Selling communism to anime nerds cuz revolution is like a collective isekai

[-] Belly_Beanis@hexbear.net 9 points 2 months ago* (last edited 2 months ago)

What I mean is the effects of heroin are so highly addictive that it's impossible not to become an addict. The capitalist hellscape only changes whether or not you're willing to cross the threshold. Under communism, fewer people would be willing to give up. But you'd still have people with addiction problems, with heroin having the worst potential.

[-] LeylaLove@hexbear.net 9 points 2 months ago

I had the same issue. When I started out on opiates, I wasn't nodded out, I was taking low doses and cleaning my house, spending time with friends. Gabapentinoids do the same thing but better imo. If it wasn't for how addictive both substances are (and inconsistent opiate supply) I'd still be on it.

If you haven't tried it, kratom is worth giving a shot. Very similar to opiates, but nowhere near as heavy. The withdrawal is also WAYYY easier than real opiate withdrawal if you get hooked

[-] AnarchoCummunist@hexbear.net 16 points 2 months ago

I owe my life to Suboxone. I did not use it for maintenance. I used it to ease my withdrawal symptoms. At the end, I was just a bit sick like a light flu or cold for about 5 days then I was baseline again.

The last few tablets I had I was taking like 1/4th of once of the lower doses. When you want it bad enough, you can get clean but it's fucking hard. After that, I eventually quit nicotine, and it has inspired me to be healthier overall, so I started getting fit and lost 60 pounds.

[-] SorosFootSoldier@hexbear.net 8 points 2 months ago

Congrats on the sobriety!

[-] LanyrdSkynrd@hexbear.net 20 points 2 months ago

You'd be surprised at how often that doesn't protect people.

CW Drug use (is a cw necessary for this?)You start on pills, smoking or snorting, but then tolerance grows and your money dries up. Your fear of needles gets rapidly outweighed by your tolerance and withdrawal. Shooting it is much more cost effective, especially with powder heroin that doesn't smoke well.

I never met a single person who started shooting it. I started because one time I hustled all day to get money for some, snorted it all and only felt less bad.

[-] AnarchoCummunist@hexbear.net 16 points 2 months ago

I started by shooting it. I hate things up my nose. The burning and all that, I'm just very sensitive there. And I'm not the only one. Admittedly, some of those people I turned on with the needle first and I'll have to live with that the rest of my life.

Clean 14+ years now at least.

[-] Wertheimer@hexbear.net 9 points 2 months ago

Yeah - I thought this fear would save a friend of mine. It did not.

[-] oscardejarjayes@hexbear.net 16 points 2 months ago

you can smoke it or snort it too

but the age of heroin is long gone now

[-] LeylaLove@hexbear.net 8 points 2 months ago

Damn people really sleep on boofing

[-] oscardejarjayes@hexbear.net 4 points 2 months ago

Boofing is neat and all, but it's in many ways more of a pain. You have to do it in private, or risk exposing "too much".

Taking a bump is really discrete, and basically all of the associated paraphernalia has valid excuses (straws are things people often carry on them, stuff for making lines can look just like a business card, and nasal sprays, whether for getting drugs up there or clearing out the nose after).

Injecting isn't great for your health by any measure, but you don't have to remove much clothing. There is also valid reasons to be injecting (like HRT), though even in legit cases people will probably suspect drugs. With injecting, it's really easy to see what you're doing, and if it's just IM you don't even need to be picky. Tie-offs might seem like a pain, but they're really not that bad.

Boofing probably beats out smoking though. Thanks to the distinct smells, smoking is really hard to hide. Crack and meth smell nothing like nicotine or weed. Smoking hardware is usually more expensive than the oral needle that's most commonly used for boofing. Boofing is easier to dose out, still quick acting (while being relatively long lasting), doesn't come with lung issues, and it usually doesn't ruin potency the way oral can.

But you're right, boofing is a bit overlooked. I think it's because there is a strong lack of literature (psychonautwiki for example doesn't seem to list numbers for boofing), and because there isn't really any legal use-case (DIY boofing and suppositories aren't that similar).

Codeine/hydros/oxys/morphine/heroin vs fent

same-picture

[-] glans@hexbear.net 14 points 2 months ago

is heroin back on the market?

last i heard it was basically impossible to get

[-] AnarchoCummunist@hexbear.net 17 points 2 months ago* (last edited 2 months ago)

These days I think all of it is just 3 fentanyl grains in a trenchcoat.

World poppy production has plummeted after the US left Afghanistan

[-] PolandIsAStateOfMind@lemmygrad.ml 7 points 2 months ago

Like seriously it's so fucking transparent that us govt and its various agencies being on a side of drugs in the war on drugs. It's really the 3rd Opium War and it's being waged by USA against its citizens.

[-] LeylaLove@hexbear.net 14 points 2 months ago

Maybe it's where I am, but yeah clean opiates are nearly impossible to find. 99.9 percent of opiate sales are done in the form of fake perc 30s with fent or nitazenes in them

[-] krolden@lemmy.ml 6 points 2 months ago

They should have let the pill mills stay open

[-] glans@hexbear.net 3 points 2 months ago

cracking down and pulling the rug out from people absolutely led to countless deaths.

but everyone had to personally know 5+ people who died of toxic drugs before any harm reduction was in the realm of consideration. naloxone has only been legal for 10 years and nominally available for 5ish.

[-] krolden@lemmy.ml 2 points 2 months ago

I never knew anyone that overdosed on legit pharma opiates. The dosage is always correct and oxycodone and others have a reasonably high ld50. Not saying no one did but when pills were everywhere naloxone was hardly needed at all.

[-] glans@hexbear.net 2 points 2 months ago

it's a fair point. essentially what happened was just total industry deregulation.

it wasn't regulated in the way some people wanted to begin with. doctors being the sole gatekeepers and only allowing access according to clinical guidelines arrived at by legitimate scientific research. in their attempt to enforce this they ruined what controls were in place. the pill mills were hooked into the pharmaceutical supplies and therefor provided a reliable and predictable product for the consumer.

See the graph I posted in another comment that shows pretty dramatically what happened

[-] oscardejarjayes@hexbear.net 4 points 2 months ago

it remains basically impossible

really the only way to get Heroin is diy (morphine isn't as illegal as heroin)

[-] Rai@lemmy.dbzer0.com 6 points 2 months ago

There’s been some clean stuff recently tested at DrugsData, legitimately just heroin. Bought from a darknet vendor in Canada. I imagine that’s INSANELY rare.

[-] glans@hexbear.net 3 points 2 months ago* (last edited 2 months ago)

I just did some very light research and did find this graph.

Appears to depict H becoming safer and safer over time. The deaths from heroin are about what they were from methadone 20 years ago. (Ignoring all methodological issues in determining "cause of death".)

I expect this is basically due to how impossible heroin is to get, perhaps the only users left over are those with the ability to obtain a very good supply. Whereas 95% people are stuck with the other stuff.

[-] glans@hexbear.net 3 points 2 months ago

Ya it's always a re-shock to see how dramatic things are. that graph is based on this chart

death from any opiod - total:

  • 2002: 11,920
  • 2022: 81,806

death from Synthetic opioids other than methadone:

  • 2002: 1,295
  • 2022: 73,838

nice work FDA

[-] krolden@lemmy.ml 1 points 2 months ago

They dont actually care about saving lives they just care about making it look like they give a shit while causing a much bigger issue. Now theres more deaths than ever just so they can use it as another boogyman instead of making safer alternatives.

Or you know just making life better for everyone so people dont have to do opiates to cope.

[-] LeylaLove@hexbear.net 10 points 2 months ago

Literally me. I've been shot up with some serious stuff at hospitals before and even getting shot up with the good stuff, I could never go near a needle.

[-] Damage@feddit.it 8 points 2 months ago

Lemmy Kilminster probably tried most drugs of his time, and he fucking despised heroin and kept warning against it

[-] krolden@lemmy.ml 6 points 2 months ago* (last edited 2 months ago)

Heroin is really good up the butt

I hope I didn't just turn everyone here into junkies.
