A Sun rises in the East, its name is Wukong

[-] sharkfucker420@hexbear.net 34 points 3 weeks ago

Why are people losing it over this game?

[-] yogthos@lemmy.ml 60 points 3 weeks ago

It's because it looks to be a genuinely good game based on a classic novel called Journey to the West, and it getting people around the world interested in Chinese culture. This is directly challenging the US cultural hegemony, and hence westoids are losing it.

[-] Frank@hexbear.net 38 points 3 weeks ago

This is funny because fucking everyone knows Journey to the West. Son Goku is like the patron saint of Brazil or some shit.

[-] ShinkanTrain@lemmy.ml 18 points 3 weeks ago

Brazil and Mexico share custody of him.

[-] Black_Mald_Futures@hexbear.net 10 points 3 weeks ago

Sun Wukong is way stronger than Son Goku though, at least for all of Dragon Ball and pre SSJ DBZ.

Honestly Sun Wukong could probably hold his own against SS1 Goku, the guy could SOMERSAULT 30000 miles in one bound. I'm sure that's like.... pretty strong, probably able to Zwee Fight. Not that he'd even need to, since he can also turn invisible and Goku would be like "nani??"

I made this an age ago, idk why even, but afaik Monkey King is possibly the most immortal character in fiction. He just keeps stumbling tits-forward in to newer, more durable ways to be immortal until he reaches the point that literally the only entity left that can stop him is the Buddha. idk if Goku could beat Super Man or my dad but he could definitely not beat the Buddha.

Like Goku is a cool dude and probably the best fighter ever, except that Monkey King punched so good he attained Buddhahood as the Victorious Fighting Buddha and it's not fair to even hold Goku to that.

He just keeps stumbling tits-forward in to newer, more durable ways to be immortal

Reminds me of Feng Shen Ji

I guess the question is though can a Victorious Fighting Buddha destroy a planet

[-] Frank@hexbear.net 4 points 3 weeks ago

Maybe if Goku threw him at the planet areally really hard?

[-] UlyssesT@hexbear.net 36 points 3 weeks ago

Wasn't there a chud contigent seeing it as "anti woke" though, including some stoking of that from its devs?

Maybe I misheard.

[-] Mindfury@hexbear.net 37 points 3 weeks ago

yeah there' something about anti-wokers initially trying to pump it up because of reports about the devs behaviour/internal culture or something, but that's now subsiding as they're realising that they've pumped up a nice looking game about chinese folklore and therefore have promoted understanding of the designated enemy

[-] UlyssesT@hexbear.net 30 points 3 weeks ago

That's nice.

I hope all the chuddy fans that were there for some perceived "anti wokeness" fuck off.

[-] SkingradGuard@hexbear.net 17 points 3 weeks ago

Lmao the outcome of this is chefs-kiss for the chuds. Fuck em

[-] ProletarianDictator@hexbear.net 3 points 3 weeks ago

This seems exploitable and assymetric.

Chuds will signal boost anything they perceive as anti-woke, while woke people will do their homework. We should start upholding certain stuff as certified anti-woke to bait chuds into stanning shit we like.

[-] Mindfury@hexbear.net 2 points 3 weeks ago

setting up a honeypot bideo gaem news website that accuses the devs of Celeste of having a frat-bro culture and explicit anti-DEI policies in their company constitution

[-] NewAcctWhoDis@hexbear.net 9 points 3 weeks ago

Supposedly people who got review keys were sent an email forbidding talking about a handful of topics during reviews, mostly reasonable political stuff but also "feminist propaganda" https://archive.ph/A1s65

At first I was kind of skeptical whether it was real but now I'd lean towards "yes"

[-] UlyssesT@hexbear.net 7 points 3 weeks ago

I assume the actual game is light on misogyny (if it features women much at all) but I'll just wait and see.

Sometimes monitoring the fandom that sticks around can be a fine indicator; I'll see if the chuds decide it's chud certified after all.

[-] FourteenEyes@hexbear.net 6 points 3 weeks ago

This was from a marketer distributing review copies iirc, not the devs or publisher

[-] NewAcctWhoDis@hexbear.net 2 points 3 weeks ago

That would make sense.

[-] Deadend@hexbear.net 18 points 3 weeks ago

I haven’t noticed that.

Mostly it’s chuds jerking off to its sales numbers in China and the company telling streamers not to talk about feminism being “based”

It looks like a fine God of War game with very good graphics.

[-] HumanBehaviorByBjork@hexbear.net 12 points 3 weeks ago

because it's a timeless literary classic, and also funny monkey

[-] HumanBehaviorByBjork@hexbear.net 5 points 3 weeks ago

i've heard literally nothing about it, i'm just guessing

[-] peeonyou@hexbear.net 3 points 3 weeks ago

the reviews on steam are positively glowing

[-] Paulie@hexbear.net 19 points 3 weeks ago

Dark Souls Miyazaki went on some rant over it too, fromsoft stans in shambles

[-] Frank@hexbear.net 17 points 3 weeks ago

It's cool. Miyazaki has spent ten years ruthlessly training me how to parry his bullshit. if I can parry that fucking bull I can parry his bullshit, whatever he said.

[-] UlyssesT@hexbear.net 16 points 3 weeks ago* (last edited 3 weeks ago)

I like some of his takes, like the one about how it's important to actually observe living beings instead of just making fan copies of fan copies of some old cartoon based upon a living being from a long time ago in a way that makes anime derivative and repetitive instead of a fresh experience.

[-] Frank@hexbear.net 15 points 3 weeks ago

Are we talking about the Dark Souls Miyazaki or the Totoro Miyazaki? I'm mostly certain they're not the same guy.

[-] UlyssesT@hexbear.net 18 points 3 weeks ago

I completely mixed up which one were were talking about. shinji-froggy-chair pathetic

[-] ShinkanTrain@lemmy.ml 12 points 3 weeks ago* (last edited 3 weeks ago)

Wrong Miyazaki.

Though I like pointing out that Hayao "I'd rather be a pig than a fascist" Miyazaki, in case it wasn't obvious from his work, is a doomer Marxist/Maoist, despises the US and was a big Union man in the 60s and 70s. 🫡

[-] SorosFootSoldier@hexbear.net 11 points 3 weeks ago

omg guys can we make fucking BASED MIYAZAKI an honorary American? Please he SAVED gaming for white men.

[-] Hello_Kitty_enjoyer@hexbear.net 16 points 3 weeks ago

It's all true, but Euro-American cope will NEVER reach the levels of Euro-Europeans
