524522 Zoozve

This asteroid is smaller than a kilometre and it's unique in that its a quasi-satellite of Venus, because while it orbits the sun its orbit is the same length as Venus and roughly aligned, meaning that it follows it like a long distance shadow. Zoozve is known to be very elongated too.

My fav thing about Zoozve itself is the cute origin of its name: A podcast host's kid had a solar system poster on their wall with a moon of Venus labeled, and contacted NASA confused about it because no 'moons' of Venus were known to exist. He called it Zoozve but it was a misinterpretation of 2002 VE (a more typical name for an asteroid). https://radiolab.org/podcast/zoozve And this eventually led to the asteroid being formally named Zoozve.

Every ~8 years it makes a close approach to earth, roughly ~0.05 AU (from wikipedia), and the next approach like this is today November 2 2026! Hoping it gets another observation and maybe more is discovered about it.

(This was inspired by the previous megathread about favourite celestial bodies.)

As a reminder, please do not discuss current struggle sessions in the mega. We want this to be a little oasis for all of us and the best way to do that is not to feed into existing conflict on the site.

Also, be sure to properly give content warnings and put sensitive subjects behind proper spoiler tags. It's for the mental health of not just your comrades, but yourself as well.

I wonder what happed with my biological dad.

I only have two memories of him, and they're both kinda questionable. I think he was one of them absent dads tbh.

I remember being regularly around my mom, but my dad was rarely around. Probably "busy" being a misogynistic pig. Hopefully that didn't involve getting more autistic women addicted to heroine. (Or anyone for that matter.)

My curiosity towards him is purely cognative. If I did hunt him down it'd consist of a "nonpassing" agender trans woman interrogating him and being all like "WHAT WHERE MY MOM'S LIFE GOALS AND MORAL BELIEFS!?" lol.

My sperm donor made his donations the proper way through a sperm bank. So meeting him has been purely a curiosity. Learning about family history of diseases can be helpful, for example.
