And I use "normal" in scare quotes, because, according to whom, exactly, capitalism? Society? Yourself? Some of the "weirdest" people I've met in my life where also some of the nicest and actually helped me out. People you'd peg as "normal"? Well I've had my fair share of shit with them. I'm not about to put up with some reddit lord trying to score points with cool kid podcasters by throwing people who feed the homeless under the bus, fuck you very much.

Isn't Brace kinda a weird guy himself?

I guess joining a CIA backed militia isn’t the normal way to support imperialism

was this obvious without hindsight?

Every communist space I've been in had critically supported Assad over the Kurdish factions from the start for specifically that reason. I think somebody who is going to pick up a rifle for them ought to be doing vastly more research than we had done back then to understand what exactly they're fighting for

I do believe he’s talked in a more principled fashion about Syria. But it’s fucking podcast so I couldn’t tell you when.

I'm actually okay with Kurds working with USA, if they had advanced communism as a result. And currently it doesn't look like that.

I'm too ignorant of what's going on with all that.

Very much so lol

But he's not saying "be normal like me, a really normal guy", he's saying "I spent my formative years being deliberately offputting to get a reaction and I've slowly learned it isn't effective compared to being friendly and amicable" or something like that. It's just that he doesn't seem to have introspected and deconstructed his internalized ableism and that influences how he communicates it.

His public-facing practice seems to embody this, where he goes and guests on ideologically-hostile podcasts and videos and tries to just be a chill person that is also a communist.
