Like the US or not, thousands of innocents died in this attack, including both victims and emergency service members trying to save lives.

I don't think OP was making fun of the people who died at all. Rather this is probably how Trump (a demented narcissist btw) probably sees this whole situation. We gotta have some room of humor. I would agree with you if OPs joke was just "9/11 lol" but there's a lot of context here.
