'm so sleepy, I call coffee "hot brown water" because it doesn't work for me

Hate to break it to you like this, but if coffee doesn't work or makes you sleepy, you might have ADHD

weird way to spell "lack of amphetamines"

[–] FlakesBongler@hexbear.net 10 points 23 hours ago (2 children)

I tried Adderall and it made me sweaty and uncomfortable

[–] 30_to_50_Feral_PAWGs@hexbear.net 4 points 22 hours ago (1 children)

I think that's just the human condition for neurotypicals

[–] FlakesBongler@hexbear.net 2 points 21 hours ago

I usually don't sweat through my shirt though

That's what it does to you when you're not used to it or if you're taking too much

[–] FlakesBongler@hexbear.net 3 points 21 hours ago (1 children)

Ah, I might have to reinvestigate getting on it

[–] LeeeroooyJeeenkiiins@hexbear.net 4 points 19 hours ago

they also have various XR (extended release) formulations that might make the crashing/withdrawal effects mid-day less noticeable, i.e. vyvanse is adderall with a molecular bit attached that needs an enzyme in your blood to cut it off before it starts to "do anything" so it's rate-limited by the enzyme doing that, stuff like that might help moderate effects like the sweating and stuff, but I think side effects like that also tend to go away after a few days/weeks of use (where your body starts to be like "this is normal")

First time I took adderall it made me sleep for like 15 hours straight. Now it just calms my hyperactive mind/ slows the racing thoughts, which I feel was the source of my constant fatigue. Can't believe neurotypicals take that shit to rave

What, you guys aren’t taking wonderful adderall coffee naps?

(Undiagnosed and totally neurotypical btw all my friends can see it and agree with me and nobody thinks I should go get tested for anything especially the things I’ve been talking about getting tested for almost two decades but haven’t done it because it sounds like a lot of work)

[–] TraschcanOfIdeology@hexbear.net 2 points 11 hours ago (1 children)

because it sounds like a lot of work

This might not change your mind at all, because heaven knows I don't do things that are good for me even if I know they are... But trust me when I tell you it's worth it. Not only medication (which you might want or not to take, it's your call), but just... The relief, and the kindness you're able to show yourself afterwards is something else.

Thank you! I seriously intend to and would like to get assessed. I wouldn’t mind trying medication, and just knowing and having a diagnosis would be very affirming. I was the “can’t sit still, but also randomly sleeps in class, never does homework but does great on tests” kid.

I’ll make getting tested a goal of mine this year. I went through some crazy health stuff last year and spent a good amount of time in the hospital, but I’m back to like 90%+ physically so I should focus on my brain health…

can’t sit still, but also randomly sleeps in class, never does homework but does great on tests” kid.

That was literally me until cycles of burnout fucked me up so bad I realized it was an unsustainable way to live. Let me know if I can help you with the assessment in any way!

Maybe!

I definitely have some altered brain chemistry.
