If your friend group doesn't let you use proxy cards, they aren't your friends.
Honestly, wotc has been up to some shadey shit for years. Buy your cards in the secondary markets and proxy the shit out of your decks. The best thing we could do for the game is run the company into the ground.
That's exactly what eteral formats do. But they have been making "modern/legacy" power level booster packs too.
I barely care anymore. The last time I read cards was when the spanish versions of the space set were uploaded to scryfall and I could spend some time practicing spanish. I learnt the word "doquier"
Every fucking card is either bullshit removal, or "When you resolve this spell turn a land into a 0/0 creature and put a +1/+1 counter on each land that turned into a creature this turn and draw a card if your land creatures have five enchantments".
Android Netrunner in its hayday was knockout designs all over the place, every set had some weird bullshit cards that saw play all the time. there were very few super busted cards, and most of them had hate in the same set, if not, the next set to keep innovation high, and no random boosters meant that anyone had access to any card, except that ONE TIME when they couldn't print enough of the set with Jackson Howard, but they did whatever they could to ameliorate it.
Rip ANR 2012-2016, you will be missed. Even before you died, you fell off, but the core set and all expansions up to and including mumbad were the greatest game design ever.
Not a day goes by I don't miss ANR in it's prime.
fave homebrew deck?
I've long ago lost my deck list, but I had one based on Eater that was annoying though to play against (especially with me usually trying to play a little chaotically) that won a tourney after our local "pro" player rage quit lol

Both now that you mention it! Drive everyone nuts, had to promise not to play it in friendly matches because it just felt too bad. Was boring to play anyway honestly.
Damn I miss that game.

They've had chances to use anti run success/anti ai starts and rushing out agendas. Back then you could play around most things.
But yeah, I imagine you had other decks too :)
