I think the easiest way to explain it is with what we specifically see here, where literal, on-video murder gets called "blood libel" by people and institutions that get mostly-uncritical mainstream play. Like, what better strategy is there for getting people to not take the accusation of blood libel seriously, or even to believe blood libel myths, then to conflate the term with straightforward, objective cases of cold-blooded killing?
Normies dont know what blood libel means. I mean normies having absolutely no idea what the nazis were about aside from invade countries kill jews. Most people think the sole reason Hitler came to power was so he could kill jews amd all ww2 axis actions were in the name of king jews. At least in my public education and subsequent being around local normies. Thar being said the majority of said normies know what Israel is doing is a genocide and absolutely evil despite all of that cause they have hearts. Turns out ee dont need to make it that complicated anyway.
I dislike "normie" talk. Regardless, you are right that the general public isn't familiar with blood libel as a term, or at least very many are unaware of it. You know what a very effective way of making them aware of it has been? Connecting it to current events! Many more people know the term now than in 2020, and more learn each day, and it serves basically no purpose but to encourage people to view Jews as historical villains, i.e. to make people fascists.
This is, unfortunately, the most likely outcome for many if the US and "Israeli" media apparatus are allowed to carry on like this forever.
I agree we should shy away from using the language of our enemies.
I agree, but mostly because I can't hear "normie" without thinking of that awful Garbage Pail Kids movie
Fun fact, garbage pail kids cards were produced by the same company that made the Mars Attacks cards and that movie fucking rules.
That's basically what my last two sentences were. Turns out most people have hearts and dont need to be historically persuaded into thinking genocide is wrong.
I'm always surprised when no one understands the underpinnings of WWII and what fascism is or how it always starts or what it promises to solve in a broken nation.
But then, I'm the only person in my IRL circles who refers to it as the Great Patriotic War, and one of only three who know the Nazis targeted trans people first (and one of those other two only knows that much because he's trans and one of those left anarchists - he's a pain, but he'll probably come around when he's older and infighting with him gets me nowhere so I just shut up when he talks politics), so I shouldn't be that surprised. And I'm not. I'm pleasantly surprised when anyone I actually know understands that WWII was about more than the Holocaust and that fascism is about far more than genociding a single scapegoat group, because that is a surprisingly high bar to clear. When I hear a fellow Western person use the term "Great Patriotic War" though, I do expect that they know at least as much as I do, but I'll forgive not knowing much about the Western Allies, if they know a reasonable amount about the Soviets. I've never been let down too badly in that context, at least.
In light of my last reply, I truly believe that the person in the op probably cannot face reform and belongs in a forced labor camp for the rest of her life. I still would not want to kill her though. The ones that actually facilitate or carry out said killings, absolutely. No good can come from keeping them around.
Or maybe I am wrong on this too and given our ideal circumstance a lifetime of labor in service of those they have oppressed or attempted to exterminate is more productive and a fate worse than death. I don't know if we will see that in my sadly limited years left on this planet so maybe it is moot. I just want the violence to stop. All of it. I am tired of fighting.
I don't care if Fartlow lives or dies in someone's Central Park fantasy, so let me be clear that I'm only arguing this for the sake of the broad ability to assess people. Fartlow can be reformed. Humans are capable of changing massively, even if old habits die hard. It is not as visible to us, but she does not just exist with this malignance in a vacuum, she is a minor appendage of a massive cultural apparatus.
Rehabilitation principally isn't a matter of taking people with negative karma meters and making them positive (speaking in terms of shitty ps3/4 era video games), it is a matter of taking them out of the environments that facilitate a positive feedback loop for bad behaviors and attitudes and putting them in environments that reward being constructive instead.
I think we are of a mind on this. I believe that reform is possible, but in some cases, like hers, likely only through force.
Well yes, people usually don't reform themselves and the systems that make them this way usually resist non-violent methods of reorganizing them. Fartlow, though, is fundamentally a pathetic person that poses no threat as an individual - she's not a leader, she's a follower, to put it in binary terms. This is the person who was afraid of a "Free Parking" sign. If you put her in an environment that rewards not being a genocidal monster (as @purpleworm@hexbear.net said), then she would likely stop being a genocidal monster fairly quickly because, as I said, she's pathetic and I doubt she has actual convictions of any kind about anything.
During the lifetime of great revolutionaries, etc. etc. yes I know.
I just don't want to be the soldier anymore. I want to cook, I want to create, I want to entertain the little ones, I want to teach!
Unfortunately history and our material conditions has chosen a different path for me. I am capable of incredible violence and it is a thing I both cherish and must reckon with. It is not a good thing but a thing I recognize will be regrettably necessary.
I love this. I feel this in my soul.
Absolutely. Some people need to be forced (as most people already acknowledge about rehabilitation to some degree), I just think the outcome of that force can be a successful rehabilitation and a happy life where someone can engage in a constructive and genuine way with their community.
