Thrift thrift thrift. The old stuff is higher quality than the new stuff (if maintained), and the new stuff is v expensive. For instance I live where it’s cold AF and thrifted a parka for $30 that needed a good wash, but would otherwise be $300. Just go for cost and utility, and if someone compliments it be super aloof about its origins, because of how little you care. “Oh this thing? Yeah I just got it to prep for hiking k2 (smoking k2).”

For the benefit of anyone who doesn't know; bike helmets lose their ability to protect after a single fall/crash. They can have microfractures that you cannot see such that 2nd hand bike helmets must always be assumed to be compromised.

Be cool, don't wear a helmet comrade-fly

(for slow speed general transit that is. helmets are essential for racing, bmx and mountain biking)
