you can also learn alchemy through the kabbalah or at least that's what the imagery of Full Metal Alchemist has led me to believe

well yes, with the kabbalah you can either become the youngest state alchemist and perform alchemy without the need for any transmutation circle, or you can utilize it for piloting a mech they made out of your mother and killing angels.
