You know what? I'm still on a wait and see with Mandami. Maybe, for whatever reason, he feels like he has to comment on this to win (I don't think he does, but whatever). Talk is cheep. I'm willing to prolong my disappointment until after I see how he acts in office.

Imagine feeling the need to desecrate the Cuban people's revolution just to win a city Mayoral election. He didn't even need to answer any questions on foreign relations. He ain't a senator.

[–] FlakesBongler@hexbear.net 32 points 1 week ago (2 children)

Right?

The correct answer on foreign relations should be "Call your congressman"

Why the mayor of NYC has to pretend to be President Jr. confounds me

[–] Le_Wokisme@hexbear.net 18 points 1 week ago

i think the media only knows how to cover presidential elections so they treat the county dog catcher like his opinion on the chicken tax matters.

NYPD has a mutual aid agreement with the IDF. The stock exchange sees capital from all over the world flowing through it. NY politics are global politics and the stances of its leadership matter to how they govern

I am sure the hiring freeze will finally end NYPD foreign imperialism

The correct response is to pivot to an actual Caribbean island that faces daily oppression called Puerto Rico.

[–] ElChapoDeChapo@hexbear.net 7 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Exactly! Especially considering how many Puerto Rican New Yorkers there are in the city

Mamdani is chasing the wealthy cuban gusano, not the primarily working class boricua populace of NYC.

[–] TheRogueKitten@hexbear.net 3 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Who outnumber the gusanos... about 3 to 1.

[–] redchert@lemmygrad.ml 3 points 1 week ago

The working class and oppressed make up the vast majority of this earth, yet despite this numerical advantage they are rarely catered to.

[–] TheRogueKitten@hexbear.net 4 points 1 week ago

Best answer!

We've been getting shit on since 1898.

i'm facepalming that he even comments on that stuff but it's really not relevant to the job so this is like a personal disdain for the man now. he sucks, but he might do a few materially good things for people so unlike a federal election there's actually a baby in the bathwater.
