The shooter paid cash at the hostel, presented what police believe was a fake ID and is believed to have paid cash for taxi rides and other transactions.

how do they know it was a fake ID? why haven't they released the name that was on the ID, if its an alias he could have been going by?

After the shell casings and the monopoly money it wouldn't shock me if the ID in question does exist it probably has a comically obvious alias.
