“If AI is truly smarter than us and tells us that [humans] should die, then I think we should die,” he said, looking out to the crowd from center stage. “So many of you feel imminently replaceable.”

“You’re a VP of customer success?” he asked another attendee. “Congratulations on your position that did not exist five years ago!”

Is all of his comedy this amazing? Because I'm going to have to start watching his specials.

It's good. His older stuff is "more friendly" or whatever, but I still enjoyed it. After his rehab stint, he has been more like this. His kids shows are goodish, but a different flavor than roasting tech bros.

Sounds like I should watch post-rehab then. He's very Carlin-like in his willingness to speak truth to power while being funny and I like it.

If he took on that mantle the world would be a better place.

Carlin would have a fucking field day with modern reality

If Carlin wasn't dead already, Trump winning the election in 2016 would have killed him.

I imagine Carlin would have said at least one time something along the lines of, "I thought you people were dumb before but you elected that guy? I could find a better president for you in last night's stool"

What’s fucking nuts is you’ll find MAGAS sharing Carlin quotes and jizzing themselves over his ‘all truth fuck your feelings’ approach to comedy. I kid you not, I seent it on that subreddit back in the day.

It’s true Carlin was fucking arrrested for his activism and yes it was to do with freedom of speech but he would have hated the fucking MAGA chuds with a burning passion-that much is obvious to anyone who knows anything about his work.

His full force sardonic wit is prime.

I love Mulaney but I couldn’t get into that post rehab special. His energy was just really different, it just wasn’t as dynamic and energetic as his older stuff (which is totally understandable), but I never finished it so maybe I’m full of shit

[-] Nastybutler@lemmy.world 17 points 1 month ago

Well there's an obvious reason for his higher energy before he went to rehab...

[-] toynbee@lemmy.world 2 points 1 month ago

In fact, he jokes about exactly that during the special.

[-] TachyonTele@lemm.ee 26 points 1 month ago

He's good, no matter what year his jokes were. Here's a classic:
