Suggesting that a war should be waged against the democratically-elected government of the United States seems... Well, it seems kinda treason-y to me. Just a smidge.

[–] hperrin@lemmy.world 231 points 2 years ago (2 children)

Hey now, treason is very specifically defined in the constitution. Oh and yeah, that’s the constitutional definition. This is treason.

To be fair, we have been very lenient with traitors lately. To the surprise of no one, treason becomes increasingly popular.

This is why we should have met treason aggressively and swiftly from the beginning.

[–] dogsnest@lemmy.world 60 points 2 years ago (2 children)

SCOTUS allows treason if it's an official act peculiar only to Trump.

[–] Protoknuckles@lemmy.world 16 points 2 years ago (1 children)

Republicans can have a little treason. As a treat.

[–] mjhelto@lemm.ee 9 points 1 year ago (1 children)

You've heard of first treason, but what about second treason?

[–] RagingSnarkasm@lemmy.world 2 points 1 year ago

What’s treasons, precious?

[–] mPony@lemmy.world 8 points 2 years ago (1 children)

Americans have been giving these folks too much rope. When will they start using the rope?

[–] dogsnest@lemmy.world 2 points 2 years ago (1 children)

Perhaps Biden's "official" act is rope-a-dope.

[–] EarthShipTechIntern@lemm.ee 1 points 1 year ago

Should have done it his first month in office.

Trials for the January 6th crew? Should have been immediate, not taking 4+ years.

[–] DarkNightoftheSoul@mander.xyz 32 points 2 years ago (1 children)

We've been very lenient with traitors since 1865.

[–] octopus_ink@lemmy.ml 8 points 2 years ago

Obligatory FUCK ANDREW JOHNSON.

[–] snooggums@midwest.social 21 points 2 years ago

To be fair, we have been very lenient with traitors lately.

Lately? We have been lenient since the last civil war!

[–] Olhonestjim@lemmy.world 14 points 2 years ago

Hey treason is when Democrats do anything I don't like which means anything

[–] Catma@lemmy.world 35 points 2 years ago (2 children)

Its only real treason if it comes from the Treasony region of France. Otherwise its just called being a rebel.

[–] dogsnest@lemmy.world 7 points 2 years ago

The Champagne virus is elusive.

[–] thefartographer@lemm.ee 2 points 2 years ago

bubbling rebel

[–] Chainweasel@lemmy.world 20 points 2 years ago

I miss when that mattered....

[–] SerpentPeaked@lemmynsfw.com 12 points 2 years ago (1 children)

Isn’t this sedition, not treason?

[–] ThunderWhiskers@lemmy.world 4 points 2 years ago

Technically yes, but it's really just semantics and treason sounds sexier.

Yeah this kinda does seem like it might cross the line and be actionable

[–] Freefall@lemmy.world 1 points 1 year ago

Doing the definition of treason is AT LEAST treason-adjacent!

[–] hopesdead@startrek.website 1 points 2 years ago

But you need either that person or two witnesses to admit to it in a court in order to convict.
