Both my coworker and I have already received our tips with our paychecks, and we obviously have to pay income tax on them. Returning the money to her at this point is literally impossible since we don't actually have all the money.

Fucking up and making it other peoples problem is peak Christianity.

[-] MelastSB@sh.itjust.works 77 points 7 months ago

Should have told her that the rapture did happen, she just didn't tip enough

[-] FlyingSquid@lemmy.world 52 points 7 months ago

"Sorry, you should have been a better Christian. Not our problem."

[-] I_Fart_Glitter@lemmy.world 66 points 7 months ago

Her bill came to $40, to which she added a $300 tip and wrote on the receipt "in case you don't rise on the 8th."

What a condescending cunt.

[-] Rhynoplaz@lemmy.world 63 points 7 months ago

This is what we call the Stupid Tax.

[-] FlyingSquid@lemmy.world 35 points 7 months ago

I really hope she tries to sue so she can get laughed out of court.

[-] Halasham@dormi.zone 15 points 7 months ago

Honestly, if they are both that dense to believe that a well-known and well established astronomical phenomena is heralding the end of the world as it hasn't for millennia of this happening and that insulting that you would only give a major tip when you believed that the recipient wouldn't be able to enjoy it then they most assuredly deserved the loss.

[-] AA5B@lemmy.world 3 points 7 months ago

And frequent. Supposedly every 18 months or so, there’s an eclipse visible from somewhere.

It looks like there won’t be another so convenient to me any time this century, although in 21 years maybe I’ll be retired in Florida to see that one

[-] modifier@lemmy.ca 43 points 7 months ago

What she doesn't know is that 100% of the good christians were raptured on eclipse day.

Whoopsie.

[-] FlyingSquid@lemmy.world 22 points 7 months ago

All 3 of them will be missed.

[-] modifier@lemmy.ca 7 points 7 months ago

3? That's very generous of you.

[-] FlyingSquid@lemmy.world 7 points 7 months ago

I figure out of 8 billion people, 3 are Christian enough to be raptured.

[-] 3ntranced@lemmy.world 8 points 7 months ago

Well Mr. Roger's is already gone so I'm hard pressed to find any others.

[-] KairuByte@lemmy.dbzer0.com 3 points 7 months ago

Nah I think it’s gotta be more like 8. One for every billion.

That was basically the response of the waiters who were tipped.

[-] Etterra@lemmy.world 4 points 7 months ago

Good for them. Karen can go pound sand.

[-] mojofrododojo@lemmy.world 14 points 7 months ago

now that's some christian generosity at it's finest lol

[-] uriel238@lemmy.blahaj.zone 11 points 7 months ago

I have fantasized for a while now (over a decade) about fabricating a rapture, reporting and evidence enough to convince those who believe in raptures.

Why? I suspect any Christian expecting to be raptured would have their attitude improved by facing the notion they don't actually qualify for God's elite club and eventually coming to terms with this reality.

Either they'd strive to do better, or they'd join the rest of us renegades.

Of course, for me, my journey towards naturalism was most terrifying coming to terms not just with mortality but with the insignificance of my species (which is already careening towards our great filter). These are the revelations that religions try to allow their followers to avoid. Tens of thousands of sects all claiming to be God's true chosen.

[-] 3ntranced@lemmy.world 6 points 7 months ago

Let's start a cult.

How else would you have liked this bit of amusement presented to you?

From Facebook or Instagram, as is tradition!

Only if my wife says I can.

[-] WarmSoda@lemm.ee 6 points 7 months ago* (last edited 7 months ago)

She's cool with it.
Lol I like how someone downvoted your reply for no reason

[-] FlyingSquid@lemmy.world 7 points 7 months ago

Sometimes I really wonder about the reasoning behind a downvote. Sucks that I'll never know.

Someone regularly goes through my post history and downvotes every comment. What does it accomplish? I have no idea.

[-] WarmSoda@lemm.ee 5 points 7 months ago

Yeah the obvious "going down the list" downvotes are funny to me. Especially if the comment is less than a couple minutes old. Good times

[-] AA5B@lemmy.world 4 points 7 months ago

I’m sure it’s the Anti Squid Society - flying squids are an abomination and that A.S.S. wants to squash them

[-] PotentialProblem@sh.itjust.works 4 points 7 months ago

I’m a rampant clicker/tapper and I bet I’ve unknowingly downvoted more than a few folks.

[-] FlyingSquid@lemmy.world 3 points 7 months ago

I don't know how you browse Lemmy, but on the default view in Firefox, downvotes are red and upvotes are blue, so it's hard to make that mistake.

[-] PotentialProblem@sh.itjust.works 4 points 7 months ago

I’m on a random app and while it’s obvious if I pay attention. I, occasionally, tap the down arrow by mistake while scrolling. Usually when I do this I notice it and undo it, but I imagine it’s happened a few times without me noticing.

Just saying it’s possible it’s some donkey like me that fat fingered a downvote.

[-] FlyingSquid@lemmy.world 2 points 7 months ago

Definitely a possibility.

[-] Fosheze@lemmy.world 2 points 7 months ago

Every once in a while I'll accidentally bump an upvote or downvote as I'm scrolling. I think I usually catch it but I'm assuming that I've left downvotes on plenty of entirely normal comments when I don'tcatch it. Whenever I get a random downvote I just assume it's from the same thing.

[-] ChunkMcHorkle@lemmy.world 1 points 7 months ago* (last edited 7 months ago)

If you maintain an account on an instance that does not hide the identities behind votes, ~~like Kbin,~~ it's a simple thing to know. I don't usually look, but occasionally I'm curious.

EDITED TO ADD: I just looked at Kbin, they do not appear to be showing downvotes anymore (every post and comment on my page has a downvote total of zero) so scratch that, lol

[-] FlyingSquid@lemmy.world 2 points 7 months ago

But even if I knew who did it, I wouldn't know why they did it, and it wouldn't be worth asking them.

[-] ChunkMcHorkle@lemmy.world 1 points 7 months ago

I've never asked. It's happened twice to me on Lemmy: once it was readily apparent because they tangled with me and I guess I really pissed them off, and the other time it was someone I'd never openly interacted with at all. In neither instance was a question going to get more of an answer than I already had, IMO.
