classic defense of capitalism which cites capitalist behavior as the reason why communism wouldn't work. in the metaphor, communism replaces merging into traffic with riding the train, and liberation from capital is liberation from the need to purchase gas, make car payments, and buy insurance in order to go places.

I've always wanted to explore traffic as capitalism in microcosm. Cars are the ultimate individualized transportation device, they compete for going faster to their destination, and that competition leads to a race to the bottom. Meanwhile the truly wealthy have better options like toll roads or air travel. But really the owner class doesn't need to rely on a daily commute to survive.

[–] emeralddawn45@lemmy.dbzer0.com 22 points 4 days ago

Like the fucking CEO of Starbucks commuting by jet from another fucking state. That's such an absurd situation that really just drives in and highlights the absolute lack of productive contribution from the owner class. When he decides to fucking show up for work 2 or 3 days a week from another part of the country, he just hops on the fucking company jet. Utterly ridiculous world we live in.

Alternatively titled: who let all these communists into this antifascist group?

[–] GalaxyBrain@hexbear.net 25 points 4 days ago (1 children)

Three arrows logo in the group profile pic should explain it

[–] StalinsGiantSpoon@hexbear.net 16 points 4 days ago (1 children)

[–] GalaxyBrain@hexbear.net 10 points 4 days ago (1 children)

[–] lil_tank@hexbear.net 20 points 4 days ago

have you tried merging in traffic

Yes bro it works 99% of the time that's why we keep doing it holy shit anti-communists are incapable of reasoning

[–] chgxvjh@hexbear.net 26 points 4 days ago

Communists have strategies how to deal with human condition and conditioning though. Reeducation, cultural revolution. It's not just blind trust in the goodness of individuals.

[–] barrbaric@hexbear.net 38 points 5 days ago (1 children)

Smh part of communism is gradually teaching everyone to live in a pro-social way. Under communism, merging will never be a problem!

Of course this will also be much easier, as cars will be banned, so you'll be merging on bikes! sicko-biker

[–] Dessa@hexbear.net 25 points 5 days ago (1 children)

Not good enough. We merge bodies and minds and become one with the means of production

[–] EveningCicada@hexbear.net 5 points 4 days ago

There will be one long train, covering the entire unified railroad worldwide. No other transportation needed.

i don't care if you rename the arrows, the Iron Front is liberals. which is funny cause i know someone who has a tattoo of that, but he calls him self a vanguardist? like bro, did you look up any of this stuff

there are layers to this, stew on it. think critically about it

[–] context@hexbear.net 36 points 5 days ago

i've merged into traffic plenty of times and in the rare instance it's a problem i blame capitalist alienation. but even then, most people will let me merge rather than risk a collision. aggressive merging is direct action.

[–] SootySootySoot@hexbear.net 19 points 4 days ago

Oh you think communism works? Have you considered ?

American problem, everyone merges traffic just fine over here. Who gives a fuck about letting 3 meters of car in? Literally does not affect journey time whatsoever.

[–] NonWonderDog@hexbear.net 17 points 4 days ago* (last edited 4 days ago) (2 children)

It truly is infuriating here in the US once there’s heavy traffic, though. Instead of just going to the end of the lane and zipper merging, everyone seems to have a different opinion about how far from the end of the lane it’s "polite" to merge from. So some people come to a full stop in the middle of the vanishing lane 800 yards before the merge, refusing to get closer, and others in the through lane refuse to let anyone in closer than 300 yards from the merge. You end up with the vanishing lane leapfrogging and merging at random places while the through lane is completely stopped past 1000 yards from the merge.

You could make some sort of game theory argument, except it’s literally best for everyone to just go as far as you can! And it’s on the driving test!

But this is mostly people being too considerate to those in front (and delaying those behind, who are out of sight). Drawing the conclusion from the op is absurd.

[–] NephewAlphaBravo@hexbear.net 13 points 4 days ago* (last edited 4 days ago)

i don't know how many times i've shouted at my own windshield "STOP BEING POLITE, BE PREDICTABLE!"

[–] Le_Wokisme@hexbear.net 4 points 4 days ago

i've been in a zipper merge once and it seemed efficient

its also a regional issue. some places in the US, driver culture is a bit more considerate. maybe not as friendly/courteous as some places I've been overseas, but not every where is like Phoenix or Orlando where two out of every three drivers hates you personally and wants you to die for existing on the roads that were built by God for them only.

[–] ClimateStalin@hexbear.net 11 points 4 days ago

It’s not really a problem here either tbh, like sure there’s the occasional dickhead but for the most part merging happens just fine

Of fucking course the three arrows are aiming all three at communism.

[–] buckykat@hexbear.net 32 points 5 days ago

Car makes you bad remove car

[–] Arcanepotato@crazypeople.online 31 points 5 days ago

The insurance companies have decided the level of driver education is sufficient to protect their profits, therefore communism won't work.

[–] regul@hexbear.net 25 points 4 days ago

Putting an otherwise normal person behind a windshield at the wheel of the car turns them into a hair-trigger rage beast.

[–] iByteABit@hexbear.net 25 points 5 days ago

Can't wait though until repeat offenders of not letting someone merge are sent straight to barbara-pit
