Showerthoughts

A "Showerthought" is a simple term used to describe the thoughts that pop into your head while you're doing everyday things like taking a shower, driving, or just daydreaming. The most popular seem to be lighthearted clever little truths, hidden in daily life.

Here are some examples to inspire your own showerthoughts:

Rules

  1. All posts must be showerthoughts
  2. The entire showerthought must be in the title
  3. No politics
    • If your topic is in a grey area, please phrase it to emphasize the fascinating aspects, not the dramatic aspects. You can do this by avoiding overly politicized terms such as "capitalism" and "communism". If you must make comparisons, you can say something is different without saying something is better/worse.
    • A good place for politics is c/politicaldiscussion
  4. Posts must be original/unique
  5. Adhere to Lemmy's Code of Conduct and the TOS

If you made it this far, showerthoughts is accepting new mods. This community is generally tame so its not a lot of work, but having a few more mods would help reports get addressed a little sooner.

Whats it like to be a mod? Reports just show up as messages in your Lemmy inbox, and if a different mod has already addressed the report, the message goes away and you never worry about it.

And you can make a cannon out of PVC pipe that can fire potatoes at lethal speeds into your enemies' faces.

Hmm yes I suppose you could fire their genitals out of the cannon too.

Eggs are even more versatile though, both about 200 ways to cook and prepare them, but also about 2 million recipes that use them

[–] Poojabber@lemmy.world 6 points 1 day ago (3 children)

Yeah... but where is the egg based alcohol?

[–] gwl@lemmy.blahaj.zone 3 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago)

Literally 4 different ones exist: Eggnog, Ajerkoniak, Rompope, Advocaat

(though none use fermented eggs, it's a liqueur of spirit + egg + spice, that makes an alcoholic custard)

Also, egg white is often used in cocktails, whisked with simple syrup, to make a foam, such as in a Whisky Sour

In my fridge. I make some every year.

Boil 'em, mash 'em, stick 'em in a stew.

[–] yaroto98@lemmy.world 33 points 3 days ago (1 children)

Chew 'em, swallow 'em, turn 'em into poo!

Iirc, some nutritionist a while back did an experiment where they ate only potatoes for X number of days and proved that you can survive indefinitely off of only potatoes. You can also bury a piece of a potato and it willl grow into a potato plant. They're basically an infinite food glitch.

[–] weps@lemmy.world 38 points 3 days ago (1 children)

potatoes are awesome but you can have a bad harvest

[–] HerbalGamer@sh.itjust.works 50 points 3 days ago (2 children)

or a blight affecting all of your region's potatoes.

Bamboo is crazy - you can eat it, make floors out of it, make clothing out of it, bowls and plates. And apparently beer as well. I don't want it anywhere near my house because one of the reasons it's so useful is its ultra rapid growth rate. But it is amazing.

My favorite is breakfast potatoes. Or at least that's what I call it. Other people usually call it vodka.

The same could be said about corn. It's in fucking everything in some form or fashion.

Food and Drink

• Direct Foods: Sweet corn, popcorn, hominy, grits, cornmeal, corn flour, and tortilla chips. • Sweeteners: High-fructose corn syrup (HFCS), corn syrup, dextrose, and maltose found in sodas, candies, and baked goods. • Additives and Thickeners: Cornstarch, maltodextrin, xanthan gum, citric acid, and ascorbic acid (vitamin C) used in sauces, gravies, and processed foods. • Beverages: Beer, whiskey, and soft drinks.

Animal Feed and Agriculture

• Livestock Diet: The majority of grain corn grown in the U.S. is fed to cattle, pigs, poultry, and dairy cows, producing the meat, milk, and eggs we consume.

Fuel and Industrial Products

• Ethanol: Renewable fuel blended into gasoline. • Bioplastics: Biodegradable PLA (polylactic acid) used in cups, food containers, and packaging. • Adhesives & Household Goods: Glues (like Elmer's), envelope gum, drywall mold inhibitors (made with cornstarch), hand soap, and laundry detergents

Pharmaceuticals, Cosmetics, and Everyday Items

• Medicines and Vitamins: Vitamin C, Vitamin E, aspirin binders, and glucose/dextrose used in IV solutions. • Personal Care: Toothpaste, diapers, baby powder, shampoo (citric acid), and cosmetics. • Miscellaneous: Chewing gum (sorbitol/xylitol), crayons, matchsticks, fireworks (as a binder), and toilet paper.

A lot of that has to do with decades of US government subsidies.

Honestly, I would have guessed either wheat or corn. They make so much shit with wheat and corn. Not obvious shit.

[–] Agent641@lemmy.world 2 points 1 day ago (1 children)

The chicken is a wonderful animal. Eats scraps, poops eggs, yields feathers and milk, and it's made of nuggets

[–] thethunderwolf@lemmy.dbzer0.com 9 points 1 day ago (2 children)

milk?

fuck kind of chickens have you got???

[–] deeeron@lemmy.zip 4 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Chicken breast, breasts have mammary glands. Get with the times. (Kidding of course, chicken milk sounds like some made up AI bullshit or some very horrifying genetic manipulation). Can’t disqualify either unfortunately. I hate this timeline.

Pretty sure they got some hamster milk on iCarly back in the day.

[–] Dicska@lemmy.world 2 points 1 day ago
