Are they just datamining interior video footage of everyone's houses now? Or would they still pay someone to strap a smartphone to their forehead while picking up trash outside at the beach?

[–] A404@lemmy.dbzer0.com 5 points 2 days ago (1 children)

i think its for training cleaning robots or smth

[–] BeMoreCareful@lemmy.world 4 points 2 days ago

Experience on the Internet leads me to believe this is a sex thing.

We're working towards a reality where if you don't monetize every waking moment of your life you will fall behind on what the algorithm sets as the minimum payment threshold to survive.

I've never heard of Visora before, so let me make sure I've got this right.

Visora is kinda "Mechanical Turk" broker for paying people (a pittance) to build data sets for training slop machines, right?

Are they saying that someone somewhere is paying people through the Visora platform to get them to create/provide footage of house cleaning being done from the perspective of the person doing the cleaning? (I'm guessing in order ostensibly to... I dunno... train robots to clean houses or something?)

Or am I missing the point Visora is trying to make entirely?

[–] A404@lemmy.dbzer0.com 46 points 4 days ago (1 children)

You are correct. There are sweatshop workers in india who do something similar to this.

[–] shalafi@lemmy.world 12 points 4 days ago (1 children)

I'm in America and I'd do it. Being unemployed is hell.

[–] nilloc@discuss.tchncs.de 10 points 4 days ago (2 children)

If you did 80 hours a week and tools couple weeks off a year, you could make a cool $12,000 before taxes.

[–] orgrinrt@lemmy.world 7 points 4 days ago

I mean, I too am unemployed currently, and I’d be more than happy to just do something like this every time I clean anyway, if that was a possibility. That’d be two-ish hours a day, and while not very much per week, less than 15 hours, that’s still some 45€ or so more per week I’d make otherwise, while not doing anything extra, just the same things I would’ve done anyway.

But this is something that gives pittance to betray working class as a whole long term, since it’d feed the machines taking away even the menial mechanical jobs at least I thought would be safe.

So I for one am not doing this or equivalent work, even if I can fully see why it’d be even life changing potentially. For some, me included, that’s money that crosses the threshold of getting to buy new shoes for the kid instead of having them get wet feet with worn and torn ones months longer than you’d want just to save up..

Where do I sign up???

"I'll pay you $3/hour to show me where the valuable things in your house are."

[–] lime@feddit.nu 70 points 4 days ago (2 children)

no but actually? sign up for this and then just hang the grossest fucking pornography everywhere in your apartment. bonus points for lenticular or structured images.

[–] joshcodes@programming.dev 41 points 4 days ago (1 children)

Aren't you then just making underpaid people in third world countries watch said grossest pornography while they categorise training data...?

[–] lime@feddit.nu 29 points 4 days ago* (last edited 4 days ago) (1 children)

are you saying these ai companies would lie about their autonomous training capabilities...?

[–] Nalivai@lemmy.world 10 points 4 days ago (1 children)

In order for that data to be usable, it needs to be cleaned up, categorised, and labeled by a human. They aren't lying about that, they're lying about how the finished product is supposed to be used.

[–] lime@feddit.nu 4 points 3 days ago

the latest fad is to use other ais to do classification, which is why we're getting model collapse.

[–] Malica@lemmy.zip 9 points 4 days ago

If I didn't have kids, I'd so do this

[–] Dogiedog64@lemmy.world 20 points 3 days ago

Absolutely not lmfao.

[–] CalypsoGirl@lemmy.today 2 points 2 days ago

$3/hour is less than minimum wage. Do we have a potential lawsuit on our hands?

[–] heartSagan5@lemmy.zip 10 points 3 days ago

No. This is sabot time. Grow up, if you can’t stand chores.

[–] Sludgehammer@lemmy.world 21 points 4 days ago (1 children)

The funniest thing about this is that it's grifters grifting people in order use the data they collect to grift other grifters. I cannot picture the "training data" they acquire ever being worth even the pittance they pay the low level marks this ad is aimed at.

[–] jj4211@lemmy.world 6 points 3 days ago

Particularly since it is rooted in the fallacy that chores are purely vision based.

Driving a car has been tricky, but at least vaguely plausible because alit is a vision/audio based task with course inputs. General manual labor gets into more complex dextrous manipulation and feeling, and machine learning isn't great at extrapolating vision to things that aren't vision based. They don't watch a steering wheel with a camera, they track exactly what forces are provided. Watching a hand do something isn't that helpful to make a machine move a hand in a similar way.

It is why despite the stocastic parrots making for some incredible looking interactions, human shaped robots still look useless in the most advanced demos they have mustered.

[–] ch00f@lemmy.world 31 points 4 days ago* (last edited 4 days ago)

If you can't pay $20k to have a guy in India pilot a humanoid robot around your house to collect training data, you can cut out the middleman/bot.

Am I going crazy or does the stick figure look ai generated?
Edit: I didn't read the community name before posting. Who needs ai to generate a fucking stick figure wtf

[–] AllNewTypeFace@leminal.space 29 points 4 days ago

It’s the AI model that looks like a more generic/“professional” xkcd. All the most useless Powerpoint presentations are wearing it these days.

I'd do it if I were cleaning houses for a leaving. A 3$ an hour raise is huge!

[–] rektdeckard@lemmy.world 7 points 3 days ago (1 children)

With the homeowners consent orrrr? These videos will primarily be used to reason stupid humanoid robots, but you can almost guarantee the footage of the interiors of houses will be used to build marketing profiles and sell you ads for the toilet paper it noticed is almost out.

[–] TediousLength@lemmy.ca 1 points 2 days ago

Short answer would be yes, but reality might be a bit complicated.

It would really depend on my situation, the clients, and the relationship I would have with my boss and/or clients. But if there are cameras inside the property, and I haven't been explicitly told they are not recording while I am working, I would automatically grant myself permission.

If I have to be honest, if I were really struggling, making close to minimum wage cleaning other people's shit, I wouldn't seek any permission to gain an instant 35% raise.

[–] A_Union_of_Kobolds@lemmy.world 28 points 4 days ago (1 children)

Domestic labor should be paid, but not like this...

[–] pomegranatefern@sh.itjust.works 18 points 4 days ago (2 children)

Yeah this is not what feminists meant by "wages for housework."

[–] CalypsoGirl@lemmy.today 1 points 2 days ago

In the good old days before women fought for our right to go out and have our own jobs and earn our own money, the great trade-off used to be marriage = room & board in exchange for cooking & cleaning & sex.

[–] TwodogsFighting 5 points 3 days ago* (last edited 3 days ago)

Can I just spoof it with some found cleaning footage? at 0.8 speed so it just looks like I'm slow.

a 10 hour video could be a career!

[–] tomjuggler@lemmy.world 2 points 3 days ago (1 children)

I checked, no juggling on the list, my job is still safe

[–] Proprietary_Blend@lemmy.world 4 points 4 days ago

But it's only a ten hour work week!
