This is not the Monster Mash. This is just a tribute.

In this /c/, we call home
Everyone hail to the pumpkin song!
All year round!
He could have just been stomping everything into puree like godzilla.
Its not about the sexing?

There are some ridiculous songs on this album.
βAnd the peculiar thing is this my friendsΒ
The song we sang on that fateful nightΒ
It didn't actually sound anything like this songβ
I started reading this as Bobby Picket and then transitioned to JB.
Just a tribute :(
Although they did make an entire movie about it.
The Monster Mash is a dance, not a song. And while many dances are done to specific pieces of music, that is not always the case.
False.
It's a blitz.
... a ballroom blitz.
Factually wrong. It's both a song and a dance
"The scene was rockin', all were digging the sounds
Igor on chains, backed by his baying hounds
The coffin-bangers were about to arrive
With their vocal group, 'The Crypt-Kicker Five'
They played the mash, they played the monster mash
The monster mash, it was a graveyard smash
They played the mash, it caught on in a flash
They played the mash, they played the monster mash"

Fun fact, Soulja Boy ripped off the Monster Mash when he created the dance that shares his name

For a moment I thought that GIF had sound, but it was just in my head.
Consider yourself blessed by the D.
Sounds like Friday night
The monster mash referenced in the song was a dance.
And whatever happened to the Transylvania Twist??
Nothing that can't be fixed by getting Dracula to sing
Itβs now the Mash.
Cultural appropriation!
Tenacious D did the same thing in "Tribute".
And we played the first thing that came to our heads
Just so happened to be
The best song in the world
It was the best song in the world
Then years later revealed that the song "Tribute" is about was "Beelzeboss" from their movie. Beelzeboss was quite a good song but they could never have met the expectations they made for themselves in Tribute.
For some reason I thought they were singing about Stairway to Heaven.
Yeah I think Stairway was a big part of the original inspiration and then they retconned it to be about Beelzeboss for the sake of the movie
I think I did hear a version where they insert the opening breakdown of Stairway, IIRC after the "grass doth grow" line.
I always figured it was a song/dance innately known only to monsterkind, and as humans the most we're allowed is a song about it
The Nerd of Mouth podcast recently did a dive into the history of The Monster Mash. Apparently after it got successful Bobby Boris Pickett went on to release basically the same song several more times, like Monster's Holiday, Monster Swim, and Werewolf Watusi.
I didn't know that but there is a related running joke on the Comedy Bang Bang podcast. Comedian Nick Wiger comes by on Halloween and plays the writer of Monster Mash Leo Carpazzi (a spoof of the real writer Leonard Capizzi).
He claims the studio didn't like the first version of the song so he had to rewrite it. The first Halloween on the show, he sang it and it turned out to be called Monster Fuck and was a filthy song about monsters having an orgy.
For many years after that, he returned on Halloween to sing a "completely new song"... which always turned out to be the same song with a couple words changed.
It was a graveyard fuck.
The 2020s has been seriously lacking on dance craze trends. We used to have a new dance every year but so far this decade has only given us Hot to Go.
we couldn't handle the monster mash. it would literally destroy us, so only obliquely might we learn of it's ways
Their monster mash would kill you, traveler. You can't handle their monster mash.
waa wooo
was this in an episode of always sunny or am i hallucinating?
That's weird you don't know about the monster mash? I thought everyone was invited to at least one in their life and it is thus a known thing.
at least one in their life
It was a "graveyard smash", so perhaps some people only become familiar after they die.
Isn't it a song about a dance called "monster mash"
Both a song and a dance called the same thing.
