When the stochastic parrot replies the way you asked it to....

[–] threeonefour@piefed.ca 136 points 3 days ago (4 children)

I hate how people are using AI for this now. It used to be that you had to actually do that work of kidnapping your therapist and getting them to roleplay as your ex-wife at knifepoint.

[–] SoupBrick@pawb.social 23 points 2 days ago (1 children)

"Imagine describing your girlfriend to someone who has never seen a girlfriend before and then asking them to roleplay as her."

[–] TubularTittyFrog@lemmy.world 5 points 2 days ago* (last edited 2 days ago) (1 children)

Don't have to, that's a service escorts provide. But it costs a lot more.

[–] lemmygarden@lemmy.today 4 points 2 days ago (1 children)

It costs about the same as a therapist

[–] Delusions@lemmy.dbzer0.com 1 points 2 days ago

But you get to fuck afterwards? Wonder if cigna covers a brothel

[–] Rcklsabndn@sh.itjust.works 5 points 2 days ago

That was the plot of my favorite underrated Adam Sandler film.

/S

[–] AnUnusualRelic@lemmy.world 6 points 2 days ago

How do you get the wig on the AI though?

[–] wanderinglurk@lemmy.world 11 points 2 days ago

Until competent therapists are just as convenient as LLMs, consumers will often choose the cheaper option.

[–] anonfopyapper@lemmy.world 147 points 3 days ago (9 children)

Uploading entire conversation to a data harvesting company is so wise...

[–] The_Picard_Maneuver@lemmy.world 101 points 3 days ago (3 children)

I've seen many screenshots of people genuinely doing that. It's disturbing.

"My BF and I are arguing, help me win."

"Tell me how to respond to this girl I'm interested in."

[–] surewhynotlem@lemmy.world 47 points 3 days ago* (last edited 3 days ago) (2 children)

"Tell me how to respond to this girl I'm interested in."

This might actually be a win. It will accidentally train them to be polite and courteous.

[–] MountingSuspicion@reddthat.com 51 points 3 days ago (2 children)

I'm guessing this is mainly a joke, but it's really not training them to do anything except offload the "labor" of relationships to a third party and that women are video games where selecting the right dialogue options will get you your preferred ending.

[–] WhyIHateTheInternet@lemmy.world 19 points 3 days ago (1 children)

Who doesn't like a happy ending?

[–] gdog05@lemmy.world 35 points 3 days ago

The person cleaning the massage tables.

[–] jerakor@startrek.website -4 points 3 days ago (2 children)

Not everyone has good role models. Would you rather people get advice from Andrew Tates or Grok? Because you might want it to be someone other than those options but right now that is what a lot of people are picking between and we have no way of reaching and stopping them from picking poorly. As awful as Grok is, it manages to be somehow better than the other options.

[–] assembly@lemmy.world 16 points 3 days ago

I have a feeling Grok specifically is probably trained on folk like Andrew Tate.

[–] mojofrododojo@lemmy.world 7 points 2 days ago

like asking do you want syphilis or aids....

[–] nickiwest@lemmy.world 2 points 2 days ago* (last edited 2 days ago)

It depends on the usage.

If the user is reading the response and then thinking about it and adapting the suggestions to their own style of speaking, maybe they'll learn something over time. Studies have shown that students who use LLMs as a tutor do improve their understanding of material.

If they're copy/pasting like most of the world, then there's evidence to suggest that they'll actually get worse at the thing they're offloading to the LLM.

[–] abbadon420@sh.itjust.works 8 points 3 days ago

You know tgere's people that upload complete, unedited customer data with a prompt "write personalized emails for these customer to sell x"

[–] GratefullyGodless@lemmy.world 4 points 2 days ago

This is still better than what my mother would do when her and her second husband were arguing. She would call me or one of my brothers to try to get us to take her side in the argument.

We would have much preferred her taking it to AI than trying to drag us into her disagreements.

[–] Dozzi92@lemmy.world 5 points 2 days ago (1 children)
[–] limer@lemmy.ml 2 points 2 days ago

I’ve known at least one who has; of course it was for different purposes, outcomes and all that.

But it’s very possible, and realistic.

Which is what makes the joke funny

[–] MeatPilot@sh.itjust.works 12 points 3 days ago (2 children)

ChatGPT, where is the best place to buy methamphetamines and a hooker locally?

[–] echodot@feddit.uk 8 points 2 days ago (1 children)

If you need an AI to tell you that you don't deserve either. You got to get in your car and drive around it two o'clock in the morning or it isn't worth it.

[–] MeatPilot@sh.itjust.works 12 points 2 days ago* (last edited 2 days ago) (1 children)

Just like my father did and his father before him. AI can't replace traditions.

[–] deft@lemmy.wtf 4 points 2 days ago

Go to your local sex shop and ask. That's where the hooker who bought me booze when I was 18 would work

[–] TubularTittyFrog@lemmy.world 6 points 2 days ago (1 children)
[–] MeatPilot@sh.itjust.works 2 points 2 days ago* (last edited 2 days ago) (2 children)

Isn't Craigslist still alive but barely kicking? Some wild and very overt things in the missed connections section.

Edit

Still alive and horny

[–] TubularTittyFrog@lemmy.world 2 points 2 days ago

yes,but it's only used by boomers anymore.

[–] LogicalDrivel@sopuli.xyz 2 points 2 days ago

Sounds nice. I don't know what the issue is?

[–] Jolteon@lemmy.zip 6 points 2 days ago

To be fair, those conversations probably happened on the data harvesting company's platform.

[–] Venator@lemmy.nz 4 points 2 days ago* (last edited 2 days ago)

¯\_(ツ)_/¯ if the conversation was via a centralised platform like WhatsApp or Discord, they probably already have it...

[–] blackshirt@lemmy.world 2 points 2 days ago* (last edited 1 day ago) (1 children)

Me in the 90s: computers are great, I wish everyone has access to them and know how to use them.

Me today: hey genie, can I get one more wish to undo my last one.

[–] Aeder@lemmy.world 1 points 1 day ago

The real problem is that only the first part of the wish got granted: everyone has computers, but they don't know how they work and thus can't use them responsibly.

[–] Fmstrat@lemmy.world 1 points 2 days ago

Neither is posting the same meme that's been posted 5 times in a week, but here we are.

[–] klankin@piefed.ca 4 points 3 days ago (1 children)

Lmao, try accounting software with automatic uploads for the entire staff.

Supposed to do accountants math, cause that's something computers struggled with so much before /s

[–] Aeder@lemmy.world 2 points 1 day ago

Our bosses sold this "AI analysis system" thing to another company, and for the most part it was a horribly vibecoded but otherwise unremarkable dashboard. But the AI analysis part? It's a fucking chatbot that all it does is ask you which graph and which data you want and it picks from list of preset graphs in the frontend code, and then makes a call to preset endpoints in the backend to get the data to fill it... All things that could be done without the chatbot in the middle.

Most "AI products" are the same griftware.

[–] M137@lemmy.today -1 points 2 days ago

That's the thing you decided was the topic of importance to comment about...? Trying to not read too much into this but I can't deny that your comment is very weird, there's so much worse going on.

[–] eggpl4nt@lemmy.world 41 points 2 days ago

It gives r/TwoSentenceHorrorStories kinda vibes, I like it.

[–] TigerAce@lemmy.dbzer0.com 51 points 3 days ago (1 children)
[–] M137@lemmy.today 2 points 2 days ago (1 children)

How is this slop? I don't think this is an AI generated image.

[–] Funkt4st1c@lemmy.world 8 points 2 days ago (1 children)

The image quite literally contains a text chat with a bot. It could not more clearly be ai generated. It's "haha look at my chatgpt log its so funny" content.

[–] explodicle@sh.itjust.works 5 points 2 days ago

Yeah but it's actually funny, and he posts it? More likely to be fake and gay.

[–] Gullible@sh.itjust.works 43 points 3 days ago

"Just how I remember her"

[–] velma@sh.itjust.works 33 points 3 days ago (1 children)

When even the LLM knows you're fucked up.

[–] M137@lemmy.today 3 points 2 days ago

There's gotta be so many actual occurrences of this, just that the answer from the LLM would be different.
