Comic Strips is a community for those who love comic stories.

Rules
  1. πŸ˜‡ Be Nice!

    • Treat others with respect and dignity. Friendly banter is okay, as long as it is mutual; keyword: friendly.
  2. 🏘️ Community Standards

    • Comics should be a full story, from start to finish, in one post.
    • Posts should be safe and enjoyable by the majority of community members, both here on lemmy.world and other instances.
    • Any comic that would qualify as raunchy, lewd, or otherwise draw unwanted attention by nosy coworkers, spouses, or family members should be tagged as NSFW.
    • Moderators have final say on what and what does not qualify as appropriate. Use common sense, and if need be, err on the side of caution.
  3. 🧬 Keep it Real

    • Comics should be made and posted by real human beans, not by automated means like bots or AI. This is not the community for that sort of thing.
  4. πŸ“½οΈ Credit Where Credit is Due

    • Comics should include the original attribution to the artist(s) involved, and be unmodified. Bonus points if you include a link back to their website. When in doubt, use a reverse image search to try to find the original version. Repeat offenders will have their posts removed, be temporarily banned from posting, or if all else fails, be permanently banned from posting.
    • Attributions include, but are not limited to, watermarks, links, or other text or imagery that artists add to their comics to use for identification purposes. If you find a comic without any such markings, it would be a good idea to see if you can find an original version. If one cannot be found, say so and ask the community for help!
  5. πŸ“‹ Post Formatting

    • Post an image, gallery, or link to a specific comic hosted on another site; e.g., the author's website.
    • Meta posts about the community should be tagged with [Meta] either at the beginning or the end of the post title.
    • When linking to a comic hosted on another site, ensure the link is to the comic itself and not just to the website; e.g.,
      βœ… Correct: https://xkcd.com/386/
      ❌ Incorrect: https://xkcd.com/
  6. πŸ“¬ Post Frequency/SPAM

    • Each user (regardless of instance) may post up to five (5 πŸ–) comics a day. This can be any combination of personal comics you have written yourself, or other author's comics. Any comics exceeding five (5 πŸ–) will be removed.
  7. πŸ΄β€β˜ οΈ Internationalization (i18n)

    • Non-English posts are welcome. Please tag the post title with the original language, and include an English translation in the body of the post; e.g.,
      SΓ, por favor [Spanish/EspaΓ±ol]
  8. 🍿 Moderation

    • We are human, just like most everybody else on Lemmy. If you feel a moderation decision was made in error, you are welcome to reach out to anybody on the moderation team for clarification. Keep in mind that moderation decisions may be final.
    • When reporting posts and/or comments, quote which rule is being broken, and why you feel it broke the rules.
Banned Artists

The following artists are banned from the community.

  1. Jago
  2. Stonetoss
  3. GPrime85

It should be noted that when you make reports, it is your responsibility to provide rational reasoning why something should be removed. Saying it simply breaks community rules is not always good enough.

Web Accessibility

Note: This is not a rule, but a helpful suggestion.

When posting images, you should strive to add alt-text for screen readers to use to describe the image you're posting:

Another helpful thing to do is to provide a transcription of the text in your images, as well as brief descriptions of what's going on. (example)

go to bed early

Except I can't fall asleep so now I'm scrolling Lemmy or I'll just be lying awake for like 3 more hours

[–] DigitalMus@feddit.dk 12 points 20 hours ago

People struggle with falling asleep for many different reasons, so take this with a grain of salt, but I have found that using grounding exercises, such as 5-4-3-2-1 or body scan, can sometimes be helpful to short-circuit the thought-chains that keep my mind awake long into the night. I also found pracitcing these techniques regularly in "meditations" help reinforce the skill during times of stress.

Do sth. Really tiring.

Learn vocabulary, read advanced mathematics. Do sth that is really boring. And you will get tired in no time

This comic written by an early bird person blaming night owls for not being early birds using an owl as the token of knowledge is quite insulting.

You can sleep going to bed early? then enjoy the present life gave you and how much work life is architectured around you and stop preaching to the people that naturally has an internal clock different than yours.

you preachy little shit.

[–] BorgDrone@feddit.nl 17 points 21 hours ago

So weird that when you don’t get up super early in the morning you are somehow lazy, but if you’re in bed super early that’s somehow admirable?

What the fuck are you doing in bed at 22:00 you lazy fuck? There’s stuff to be done.

[–] Zarobi@aussie.zone 11 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Maybe I'm naΓ―ve but I read it as "going to bed early relative to when you normally go to bed". For example, if I normally sleep at 9:00pm, then being in bed at 8:30pm so that I actually get all the sleep that I'm supposed to; instead of going to bed at 9:30pm and missing out on a whole hour's sleep (assuming it takes 30 minutes to nod off).

[–] topperharlie@lemmy.world 10 points 22 hours ago (2 children)

idk, I've preached at about this so many times that at this point I don't give the benefit of the doubt, I just read it as "get in line, night owl == lazy / early bird == healthy positive people"

Like I know sleeping is important, but assuming early bed time is a choice and doesn't have a natural component is really arrogant. Your assumption that takes 30 min to nod off is wildly naive, many night owls like myself have the challenge that if we go to bed "30 min earlier" we might not sleep at all, if it was a constant time most of us would have become early birds by societal pressure.

[–] creamfresh@lemmy.world 5 points 20 hours ago

I too read it as "get enough sleep".

[–] Zarobi@aussie.zone 4 points 20 hours ago (1 children)

Yeah I'm a noncompliant sleeper myself. 26 hour circadian rhythm so I just sleep whenever I happen to be tired that day. Doctors told me I'm being unreasonable and should just sleep hygiene harder as if I've not tried that lol. But I try to be an optimist when reading stuff I guess, like reading it in a generous way if I can

[–] topperharlie@lemmy.world 4 points 20 hours ago

fair enough, I just wanted to raise awareness to avoid people reading it not feel "just guilty" because of their nature, but rather feel a bit of support on a world designed for others.

Of course we all just try to get by and do as good as we can to different levels of success, I just dislike the "all is voluntary" discourse, I find it quite non diverse disguised as "healthy life".

And yes, specially infuriating when coming from doctors who should know better.

[–] Simulation6@sopuli.xyz 2 points 1 day ago (1 children)

You can adjust to be being an early bird, at least I managed. You may not be a HAPPY bird, but you will be up.

[–] topperharlie@lemmy.world 5 points 22 hours ago

You might, not everyone can, trued it for a while and was having way worse and shorter sleeping in the end, with the added pressure of being angry all the time because I was fighting my internal clock.

I might sleep less, but letting it flow makes my overal mental health be much better. And I'm very positive and happy most times.

[–] starchylemming@lemmy.world 69 points 1 day ago

My wife does all of these but still made the rookie mistake of adding me into the equation.

Checkmate owl

[–] Baguette@lemmy.blahaj.zone 13 points 1 day ago

Go to bed early should really be get the recommended amount of sleep everyday. Getting 8 hours within a 24 hour schedule is more reasonable especially since there are people who work night shifts

I agree on exercise properly, but i think people confuse that with gymming and athleticism when exercise can just be a walk around your neighborhood

I don't agree with a daily schedule. Imo that makes life too monotonous and you lose track once you start doing repetitive tasks. I try to alternate after work activities and every weekend I'm attempting something new (event wise)

[–] DarrinBrunner@lemmy.world 35 points 1 day ago (2 children)

Consistent diet, exercise, and sleep. If you do it to "get in shape" and then go back to your slovenly ways, you might as well just not do it at all.

If you don't want to do that, don't whine when you hit 50 and your body falls apart.

[–] surewhynotlem@lemmy.world 19 points 1 day ago

Whining is my primary source of cardio

You can whine all you want, it just won't help a bit

[–] doodahjones@piefed.social 12 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Cognitive Therapist: so you need to work on these exercises...
Patient with ADHD: don't you get it? If I could do those exercises I wouldn't fuckin' need you! Tabernac!

[–] Lushed_Lungfish@lemmy.ca 6 points 1 day ago

Ah, I see you are a Quebecer. May I offer you some booze, poutine and "damn those anglos" in this trying time?

Joke’s on you, dumbass owl, I wake up at 6:30 am, do the same shit every day, exercise regularly and my life is still out of control.

[–] Zensate@lemmy.world 9 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago) (1 children)

People never stop to consider that "life" and "control" are diametrically opposed.

Choose wisely - no one on their deathbeds wish they had 'controlled' more.

[–] queermunist@lemmy.ml 3 points 1 day ago (1 children)

My life is out of control and it makes me want to die.

[–] BillyClark@piefed.social 20 points 1 day ago (2 children)

Wise Owl forgot to mention eating healthy.

I think the basic reason people don't want to do the things that Wise Owl mentioned, going to be early, having a daily routine, and exercising, is two things.

The first reason is framing. What's exercise and how can you convince yourself to do it? Maybe you don't like exercising regularly, but you like doing some sport, or you enjoy some other physical activity like dancing. If you don't like going to the gym, but you like playing a sport, then you can exercise by playing that sport more.

Exercising absolutely sucks if you're just doing it to exercise. But it might make sense to exercise for some other reason. Like you want to do better at a sport or you want to learn new dance moves.

The second reason people might get into the things Wise Owl said, I think, is if you're responsible for another human. There's all sorts of stuff that I would have a hard time doing for myself, but I'd eagerly do so that I don't disappoint other people. Like, I don't have kids, but there are a lot of people who have gotten their act together for the sake of their children. I know I was much better about routine and stuff when I was the primary caregiver for my parents.

[–] Zarobi@aussie.zone 4 points 1 day ago

There's a reason nobody keeps a treadmill for long… they're machines designed only to exercise in the most boring way possible; cruel monuments of the worst possible method to maintain health. The actual answer is what you said: to find something you enjoy that requires movement and exertion, and do it every day.

[–] bitjunkie@lemmy.world 9 points 1 day ago

The first one hit hard. Fuck going for a jog, but give me a ball to chase...

[–] weps@lemmy.world 7 points 1 day ago

stupid owl of wisdom

[–] Tango@piefed.ca 9 points 1 day ago (3 children)

O Wise Owl, if the habits of a lifetime make it difficult to keep to such resolutions, how can I give myself every advantage to be better able to keep to them?

[–] Honytawk@discuss.tchncs.de 3 points 16 hours ago

Use technology, like appointments in your agenda that tell you when to go to sleep. And then try to follow them as best as you can.

Pavlof yourself. If you notice you are doing something you shouldn't, slap yourself in the face until it hurts. It is something you can do afterwards when it already happened. And after a while you will get an aversion.

[–] edgemaster72@lemmy.world 13 points 1 day ago

Owl: skill issue tbh, git gud

[–] Skullgrid@lemmy.world 7 points 1 day ago

Take advantage of your weaknesses and find sports that you enjoy doing. Set up positive feedback loops. Will post more later

[–] nialv7@lemmy.world 5 points 1 day ago (1 children)

If I have to do all those things I don't want to get my life "under control", is my life really under my control?

Think about it.

[–] weps@lemmy.world 2 points 1 day ago

ugh... for how long

[–] Sibshops@feddit.cl 6 points 1 day ago

Or just do what ever you feel like doing without worrying about 'control'.
